Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Is it likely that I'm miscarrying?

I've posted before in this topic, see here but I wanted to get some views a week later.

I started bleeding last Sunday morning. It was brownish to start with but soon turned red and gor heavier. For 2 days it had small clots, then no clots and a bit lighter for the next few days. I'm still bleeding now, 6 days later and there seem to be a few small clots again, though nothing large. The level of bleeding is like a period, not super heavy but definitely bleeding and not just spotting.

I was scanned last Tuesday and they said that the sac was under 6 wks old and therefore they weren't able to tell if it was dead or alive and to come back for another scan in 2 wks, and it will either have grown or not.

I've never had any pain and haven't passed any large clots so I still think the sac is in there, but do you think there is any hope of it still being alive?

And if I go back on Tues week and they scan me and the sac is dead, if I've bled for 2 wks already, will they give me an ERPC? (if that's the right acronym)

Every day that the bleeding continues, I think it gets less and less likely that it will make it Sad

Any views or experiences?

I have absolutely no idea, sorry but didn't want this to go unanswered.
Sorry you're suffering this and worried. Can't believe they can't tell you anything before a week on Tuesday!
Does anyone know whether a HPT would show anything, or would the hormone levels be high either way?

I had a mc 3 weeks ago, I was about 5/6 weeks pregnant, started bleeding on the friday (very light brownish blood)I had a scan the day after, sac was ok, another on the monday and sac was still there, my hormone levels had increased and looked like everything was ok, unfortunately bleeding got worse over the course of the week, had clots and bright red blood, dull ache in back and tummy like period pains. I was booked in for another scan on the following monday and was told I'd miscarriedSad
So that was a space of a week and everything had cleared "natrually" (sorry if tmi) so no need for any intervention thankfully. I stopped bleeding (quite abruptly actually) a few days after I found out I'd mc'd.
I hope things turn out better for you Jojay x

I am so sorry, it is not impossible that it could be okay, but I am afraid it is probably unlikely.

I have been in your position before and experienced it going both ways.

It is awful not knowing.

Feel bad for you, the wait is terrible.
bleeding isnt good, but you do hear about people who bleed allot through out and have perfectly healthy pregancies.

i have been where you are a few times, never ended well for me, im sorry.

i agree with *lynli"....i'm afraid it doesn't sound at all likely this pregnancy is progressing. i don't imagine you'll need an ERPC. losing a pregnancy at such an early stage is just like having a heavier period, physically speaking. i'm so sorry - of course none of us can tell for sure and there's an outside chance it will be okay, but it sounds like you know yourself it's not looking good. look after yourself -it's a horrible thing to go through, and any uncertainty makes it much worse.

I so want to give you hope but, as I was told just before my mc was confirmed, there is no way of knowing without that scan. From my own personal experience, I'm afraid it does sound as though you have begun miscarrying. Unfortunately an HPT won't help at this point, because you will undoubtedly get a positive if your body still thinks it's pregnant - and possibly for quite a while afterwards.

I had bleeding (much like a period, but with no pain at first) for a week and a half before I miscarried properly and passed the sack. I really, really hope you get the answer you need soon. When is your next scan? Hopefully, if you are miscarrying, you'll know for definite sooner rather than later. The waiting and uncertainty is awful. Hugs.

How is the bleeding now jojay?

I'm afraid I have no experience of this other than after an ERPC when I had retained products and had very similar to what you describe. It got extremely heavy suddenly, there was no lead up to it. I'm sorry. Take care of yourself.

Thanks everyone - the bleeding is the same, about as heavy as a period. Still no pain or cramps.

I think I know deep down that I can't bleed this much and have a viable pregnancy. I just wish I would hurry up and miscarry properly so the uncertainty will end. I've got the scan in 10 days time but I'd rather it was all over by then tbh. Obviously I'd rahter it was never all over but you know what I mean.

Thanks for your support, it is helpfulSmile

I also wanted to add my sympathy. I've just had my 4th MC, at about 5 weeks, and it was just like a period. The one good thing was that it all happened naturally and I didn't have to have a D&C (like I did with the other 3 MCs).

I do also have a friend who had very heavy bleeding early on and her baby was fine so there is hope but probably an outside chance.

With me, for this most recent MC, my HCG levels also fell very quickly. I had done 4 PG tests at home (I know! 4!) and all were positive, but the one in the hospital was negative. They then tested my bloods, which came back at a level of 33 - most pregnancy tests pick up a level of between 25 and 50. Two days later, my HCG had dropped to 13, so no pregnancy test would catch that. The falling level also meant that they were confident that it was an early miscarriage (and not an ectopic pregnancy or a viable pregnancy Viable = HCG should double every 48 hours. Ectopic = HCG rises, but slowly).

HCG doesn't always drop so quickly with a MC, so it's very possible to have a positive PG test and still be miscarrying (sorry :( ) but if you now get a negative home pregnancy test, after having had positive ones, then it would probably be another sign that things were coming to an end. I would also really push for them to do the blood HCG test early next week so you don't have this awful 10 days of just waiting and feeling hopeless.

I am not sure if any of this is helpful or not, and obviously self-diagnosis is not a great idea - BUT...but I have found with all 4 of my MCs that the waiting is so completely awful that I wanted to try and make a suggestion that might help with that. It's impossible to come to terms with a MC when you're not sure if it's happening or not, and also impossible to be happy about your pregnancy when you're terrified it's ending...so you really have my complete sympathy and support. I am also really hoping for a happy outcome for you.

Hi Jojay,

I was just wondering if your Dr / Early Pregnancy Unit could refer you for blood samples to check your hormone levels, so you don't have to wait for 10 days for a scan?

I was in similar situation 2 weeks ago. I had a brownish discharge, which then became a light period. After 4 days I went for a scan. No heartbeat was visible (Which should have been the case at 9 weeks), but the EPU wanted to check my hormone levels, to help confirm whether the pregnancy was failing. Sadly, I miscarried the day after. Sad

I do know people who have bled during their pregnancies though and went on to have healthy babies.

I hope everything works out for you. x

Hiya.

I am one of those people that bled with one of my pregnancies. Sadly though I have also had several mc's at around 5/6 weeks, from memory, I didnt pass any large clots at the stage and the sac wasnt visable.

I cant tell you whether its going to be okay. I agree with PP, ask them to check your HCG levels over two days which will give you a clearer view on whats happening and save you waiting the agmonising 10 days for your next scan.

I have everything crossed for you x

Ok, I'm a bit confused now. I've stopped bleeding 2 days ago.

Is that a good sign or not?

I bled for 9-10 days in total, never had any pain and never passed anything large enough to be 'it'.

What's going ? Confused

Well for the record, I have miscarried.

I had a scan yesterday and that confirmed it. Feeling ok about it now, as I've had some time to get my head round it. DH is gutted though Sad
