i'm 49 and over the last few years my periods have got a bit shorter and a bit heavier but i've had no other signs of the perimenopause. i've now not had a period since july. i've felt a bit nauseous and been weeing more often with less warning. i checked with my mum and she said hers stopped at 52/3 and became irregular before petering out. i've done preg tests. they are negative
should i see my gp or will they think i'm a twerp?

Mine just stopped around the same age - no other signs, no hot flushes or anything - I feel lucky smile compared to what some friends have gone through - I think the advice is to wait at least two years before it's OK not to use contraception (assuming you don't want another pregnancy grin) - I didn't bother to check with the GP - not sure you are meant to really ?

i suppose i just wondered if it could be anything else (if it is menopause and symptom free ...am feeling lucky!)

woah! slow down- you need 2 years of no periods under the age of 50 to be sure they have stopped for good!

I missed 4 months at age 52 then they came back regualrly for another 18 months.

You also need to use contraception for another 2 years after your fiinal period if under 50.

No one can say if it's your last one- in 12 months time you might have another - like my friend did!

No point seeing your GP unless you want HRT for symptoms- they won't do blood tests for something that is not an illness unless you are suffering and need help.

Blimey, Pollywollydoodle, are you me? I was just looking on here (my first time) thinking, I wonder, should I post that I'm 49, had no perimenopause symptoms and no period since July... I'm spooked! But also relieved it's not just me.

can i just add that I swanned around thinking i had no meno spymptoms until they hit me after my periods stopped for good?

I got to 53 with nothing at all apart from shorter cycles- and i've always been ratty so that didn't seem any worse!

It was only once my periods stopped for good that the hot flushes began.

since my late 30s have noticed periods becoming a day or 2 sooner than normal and also last only 2/3 days. This month just before my period was due had brown/pink spotting for 2 days then nothing. a week later started again...brown/pink spotting. this went on for 2 weeks until i started my period as normal...almost 8 weeks later. I beleive this is a late period as my boobs felt tender right up until my period started. I dont know if the 2 weeks of brown/pink was old blood as there was mucous/tissue there too which i normally get during a period (i assume its the uterine lining coming away). The main difference being the day before my period started i noticed something in the water when i went to the loo...looked like a clot but no blood in the water (sorry!). like a lump of mucus the size of a fingernail (sorry again!). The very next day i got bright red..start of my actual period.
I have been told in the past that i am in perimenopause stage of my life, i had my hormones checked a few years ago which came back as normal. I also have a fibroid. I am going to docs tomorrow for some advice.
Does this sound like a symptom of perimenopause/menopause. would be interested to know if anyone has experienced similar. I expected late/missing periods but not the spotting for 2 weeks, has got me worried. thanks

dizzy, I have experienced similar mucus type spotting in between irregular periods for about 7 months now, am 42. Originally went to GP who suspected perimenopuase and did blood test which didint highlight anything. Am having another test done next week as apparently if you have a blood test at a time of the month when ovaries are working fine it can give a negative result so difficult to confirm.
