Perimenopause after sterilisation or prgnant? WWYD?

Back in September I was sterilised - tubes clipped, before that I had the mirena coil for contraception, before that I was PG with my DD, I am now 46, after I was sterilised my first period was very, very heavy (expected) but then the next 2 periods were normal and on a 28 day cycle, expected a period a couple of weeks ago, got the symptoms (I thought) but nothing arrived, done a load of tests in panic but all negative, spoke to a female GP over the phone last week and she basically said if the tests are negative then you aren't pregnant, leave it for another 3 months and if you still haven't had one we will consider doing a blood test....could this just be a perimenopause thing or should I go and insist on a blood test now? I am still worrying about being pregnant - we couldn't go through with it if I was, we just aren't in a stable enough place for that. WWYD?

There's not a lot of point having blood tests because they only show your hormone levels on that day. In peri they can be all over the place, which is why blood tests are not used (NICE advises) for women over 45 in peri.

Do you mean you are worried you are pregnant at this moment? Highly unlikely if the tests are negative.

In peri you can miss many cycles in a row- 10 or 11 even- and still not be post menopause. So doing a blood test in 3 months won't be conclusive. peri can go on for years so you could be missing cycles like this for another 5 years.

If you are worried about being Pg so much, maybe use other contraception if you don't trust the sterilisation?
