Am 42 and been having night sweats, poor sleep, dry fanjo, inexplicable low mood/ episodes of The Rage for about five months.

GP has sent me for tests to exclude thyroid/ferritin/diabetes issues.

She also added FSH/LH levels. But said the bloods could be taken 'at any time'.

Is that right? Or should the FSH/LH be taken on d3 of cycle?

She offered me citalopram (which I came off 6 months ago following getting the emotionally abusive husband out of my life - er no thanks!!!!)

She said HRT not a good idea as my mum died of breast cancer aged 54.

Not sure what to make of it to be honest.

They recommend blood tests on day 3 and 14. I have the same symptoms as you but my blood tests haven't been 'enough' to be taken seriously. My latest GP response is 'just wait and see' I'm 39 and think it should be looked into more.
Odd question but when you say dry fanjo what does it feel like? A bit like thrush but not as bad? I have odd sensations down there but am told it wouldn't be hormones as I am possibly only peri and these symptoms happen at postmenopause. TBH I'm fed up woth arguing with the GP. X

Can you ask for a referral to a specialist menopause clinic?

A close family history of breast cancer does not necessarily mean no form of HRT can be used (also depends on how long and your age) but you need to be seen by a specialist who can assess risk/benefit with you.

Thanks. My bloods came back normal. I'm just going to ride it all out if I can. If it gets worse I'll ask to speak to a specialist.

Hi Handywoman -

I'm new on here but have found out so much information. I can confidently tell you that the FSH/LH blood tests don't really mean much as you can show up as fine one day, peri the next. This is irrespective of what day in your cycle they're taken. Your doctor should be looking more at your symptoms and not the blood tests. You may be best to ask for a referral to a consultant gynae if you're GP isn't very up on menopause. You do not have to just put up with your symptoms.
