I have been prescribed Premique Low Dose from Monday 27th October. It's only been 10 days but I feel worse than ever. The lack of sleep, sweats, hot hot flushes, I don't know how much I can take. How long before it actually works? I was on Kliofem for 3 months but then had a massive bleed and came off it.

Any advice?

Premique is one of the old fashioned HRTs made from horses' (CEE) urine. You would b better off taking one of the newer kind where they oestrogen is identical to our own.

Are you peri or post meno?

It's possible that the dose if low is too low- you might need more oestrogen.
Also- they do say allow 3 months for any HRT to work.

Have a look at the menopause Matters website //www.menopausematters.co.uk under HRT and you will see all the different preparations.

Go back to the dr and ask for something else?

The HRT you are taking is a very low dose oestrogen 0.3 mgs a day.
Many women take 1, 1.5 or 2 mgs daily.

You are also taking a combined HRT with a synthetic progestin- MPA- which can cause all kinds of side effects.

It sounds as if you need more oestrogen and less progestogen. You can still have a cycle even post meno when you would need to take progestin every month for 10 days- but not every day. Some women use a bio identical oestrogen and then add in a bio identical progesterone each month .

I was on Premique medium dose for about 3 years, then on the low dose for a year then stopped. I found Premique was the best of the bunch as far as HRT went. Fair dos, it didn't have me shouting from the rooftops but it did give me back a quality of life that I didn't have before. There ain't no wonder drug and you just have to make the best of it. I do remember it did take me about 3-4 months before I got the full benefit of it - healthexpress.co.uk/premique
