Menopause

Menopause I feel smelly

Hi I have been having hot flushes for 18 months now, due to a thrombosis I am unable to take HRT. Have been to a menopause clinic and been told there is nothing that works apart from HRT. I did try citalopram which is a anti-depressant, which did work and still does for my sister, although the doctors don't know why it does. Not keen to take antidepressant really, but have tried virtually every other thing available as my hot sweats are dire. The problem is I feel smelly, stale my DH calls it, lovely eh. I remember the older ladies when I was younger had this strange sweet smell and that is what I am sure I smell like. I have tried all the really strong deodorants but still get wet and horrible.

Is it just me or part of the menopause!

Have you tried either acupncture or chinese herbal medicine? You need a really well qualified practitioner but might be worth seeking someone out.

Have you done all the usual stuff such as wearing only cotton clothing, layering so you can strip off a bit etc?

Do you work? If not then maybe have another shower midday?

Is it absolutely catogorical that you can't take HRT? Was it a severe thrombosis and was it recently?

Have a glass of water by you and keep drinking plenty, to replace the sweat. I did this after a kidney stone. My wee had been smelling a bit 'old lady' for want of a better phrase, and improved no end. I am sure it will work for the rest of you too.
Once you have a better idea of how much you need to drink, you can keep well topped up
(ps - the side effect of this is plenty weeing!)

Ironically, I tried HRT as I was persuaded that it is the only thing to relieve Menopause symptoms. It did, but it also caused me to bleed very heavily with little reprieve. I now take Menolieve and am happy to report that it works for me! Supposedly not evidenced-based, however a lot of anecdotal evidence.

I think you have to throw out all your non cotton bedding.
And only wear natural fibres OP.
Try a lemon based perfume, and shower gel - forget the rose/ florals.

Also have you had a blood sugar test - don't want to worry you but sometimes diabetes can cause a strange smell.

Hope you are sleeping well and are soon as fresh as a daisy!

@Missbopeep, are you selling hrt? You seem to be very opinionated and not very empathetic to the posters on this section - I've read a few of your posts and your aggressive style is doing your arguments no favours - not quite sure why you are so interested in turning everyone to hrt, and banging in about it so much? I think you should declare ourself if you have a vested interest.

Declare yourself if you have a vested interest, that should be.

I will second Menolieve. It reduced my hot flushes and alleviated dizzy spells that I was having.

Venus How can I possibly be selling HRT? It is only available on prescription. Or what kind of vested interest could I have?

If you take time to read some other posts of mine-including one a couple below yours here- you will see I have also suggested complementary products.

I don't agree that my posts are aggressive- to the point maybe, but my only agenda is to help posters by giving information.

I have heard that Botox can be used to help reduce armpit sweating, although if it helps during the menopause, I don't know.

It might be worth discussing it with your doctor?
