Early menopause at 36 after endometrial ablation is that possible???

I had a novasure procedure for endometrial ablation in feb 2009 and since then hardly had even spotting. Which to everyone is great outcome but now I'm starting to feel like something huge is going wrong with my body. It's just come to a head now and I'm destroying my marriage and scaring my children by my bad moods etc... Let me explain exactly what symptoms I have and see if maybe anyone else could relate to this and maybe advise as to what the hell is going on with me. I am extremely itchy on my neck, shoulders and arms and this comes and goes every few weeks, I have no sex drive or drive full stop for anything at all, I'm tired all the time even though I push myself to go to gym 3 times a week and eat really healthy, don't drink alot at all and don't smoke, I'm not sleeping well waking all the time for no reason or for a wee or I'm sweating, my backache is killing me and constant, belly cramps bad as well but come and go every few weeks, I feel so emotional, I feel like I want to kill everything, cramps in my legs and past 8 days my breasts are so sore that even walking up the stairs with a little bit of bounce hurts me alot. I am planning on going to see the doc tomorrow but, wondered if anyone has any simillar experience etc please I'm sooo desperate. My husband was almost in tears last night and explained to me this morning that I need to get some help because he doesn't know what more to do to make it better for me. The past week he has slept on the sofa to try help me get some sleep but that hasn't helped and in the mean time things are falling apart. Please help

I wouldn't have thought that an ablation would cause early menopause but you could be having early ,menopause anyway. Go see your gp and they will do bloods to check hormone levels.

Well, the gynae did say it's a possibility. But, it's never crossed my mind until all this has come to a head. I am going to docs tomorrow so I can get tests done and put my mind at rest.

I have to admit, I don't know much about this, but have you been to your gynae before now? Is Asherman's syndrome a risk after ablation?

I've never heard of that before so just had a read about it and doubt that's what I have as dh has had snip.

No it's fine. I haven't got any menopausal symptoms and to be honest even if it was the menopause I wouldn't be too bothered. I'm more cross though that if it's true the dr didn't mention it to me.

menopause is when your body runs out of eggs- removing your womb lining should not cause the menopause, although hysterectomy can bring it forward by about 3 years even though the ovaries are left in.

you need to see a gynae and have a rnage of blood tests.

I have been to docs and waiting for blood results now but in the meantime I'm losing it..Well I thought the weekend things came to a head but today felt even worse!!!! I went to docs again for blood tests to be done and already feeling like I want to cry I went out to the car to find I had a parking ticket (first time in my life) well, that was it I burst into tears and cried(sobbing) all the way home and then some more for at least a half an hour. And even now I'm still close to tears and I've got a killer headache once again. I'm not leaving this house until I have to get my son from school. Wish I could hide in a dark room till I can feel normal again...really HATE how I'm feeling at the mo. I know menopause isn't confirmed yet but I feel that can be the only answer to how I'm feeling. How can something so natural turn you into a monster????

it might not be menopause- it might be depression. I had none of the emotional symptoms you mention.

To be honest I don't care what it is that's making me like this, all I want is to know what so i can be treated for it and start getting my life and marriage back on track. Well, I'm not very happy right now after actually having a good day. I asked the doc to phone me with blood results as I really didn't want to wait until next week to get an appointment and I knew it would be only days to wait if I got her to phone me. I stayed in all day waiting for the the call and then when I had to go to dentist she rang (bloody typical ) Doc left a message saying blood results are nothing to worry about but if I'm still having trouble then to make an appointment to see her. REALLY????? What the hell???? How can she say the results are nothing to worry about...that obviously means my hormone levels are ok. Yes I know I should go in and ask her what the result was but clearly she doesn't seem to see anything wrong. Then why the hell am I still feeling so crap. It can never ever be just in my head. That means both me and hubby are losing it. Am I been pathetic to feel so angry and upset by this?? What am I suppose to do now. This can't be right. I've had someone say I might just need antidepressant?? Honest to god if people could just go to hell and stop thinking everything will be fixed by antidepressants. I can't and won't believe that, that's what I need to feel normal again. Depression can't possibly give you night sweats, headaches, emotional roller coaster, itchy skin,no period for almost 3 years, sore breasts, tired.....and the list goes on!!!!!! So fed up right now

Look- you had an endo ablation- that's why you have no periods. yes?

If you saw a gynae for that- and you must have- then insist that you go back and see them for a review of how you are now.

If your dr won't then if you can, ask for a referral privately,pay for a private appt, see someone sympathetic, and get sorted. I don't know you financial circumstances, but I'd rather pay £150 to see a consultant even if it meant cutting back on clothes or holidays.

Yes dear may be you hit menopause. Some women hit menopause in their early age. Don't be so depressed. Try to go for a supplement which will surely help you out. But make sure that the supplement must contain the proper ingredients which will help you out. I am the same it has changed my life. The itching I get on my hands and feet is intense I have to sit in shower with cold water beating on them. I struggle with giddiness every day. I feel nauseated every day. I ache. Terrible headaches. Like you my neck is sore plus down my spine. Breasts sore craps down to my knees. I hope you are feeling better. Sadly my doc thinks I'm nuts. Jakks - not clear about what your problem is? Are you saying you have experienced these symptoms soon after the ablation? I would certainly get these checked out by a doctor as they don't sound normal and aren't the typical pattern of menopausal symptoms ( although some of them eg the itchiness) do occur in menopause. Your doctor should investigate these symptoms to find out if there is anything wrong with you. if S/he has not done so then go to another doc in your practice maybe?

I had ablation done in April 2010, within 3 weeks i was an emotional wreck, yes it stopped my periods a good thing, but i felt my life fell apart i was mood, crying all the time, couldnt make decisions, pretty much felt like a break down, i kept going to see gp, who gave me norithisterone, slightly helped but still felt i was all over. 2 yrs ago i had bloods donevto be told i wasn't in menopause and was totally chucked by this result as by then i was getting headaches, joint pain, etc. For 2 weeks in my cycle i was ok but by day 18-24 i was a mess. I asked last year for bloods to be done again to be told i was too young for menopause and given another mini pill, which didnt help, i felt like i was being fobbed off yet i knew in my head i was in menopause. So i tried don quia 500mg twice a day symptons improved by over half. This yr in feb i went back again to gp as had vaginal dryness and demanded bloods to find i am in menopause now....at 43. I tried hrt they made me ill. I'm now on donquia 500mg and homopathy from my local chemist, which has worked wonders for me and turnef my life around. I am no longer all over the place and have the odd flush occasionally but thats it...and its not expensive. Best thing i ever did, u dont have to be in menopause to try this, my gp kept offering me anti depressants...clearly my pharmasist knew me well enough to know i didnt have depression. Hope this helps!

Angie- HRT is very much trial and error, to find the right sort.
At 43 you are having an early menopause as you might know- average UK age is 51. NICE recommends that women having early meno use HRT to prevent long-term health problems such as heart disease and osteoporosis; this is because you are going to be without oestrogen for 10 years earlier than the average woman and therefore at higher risk.
If dong quai helps your symptoms a little then that's one thing, but it won't help prevent long term ill health that you are at risk from.
Your GP is actually being negligent not to discuss this with you and support you whilst finding a type of HRT that suits.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I want you to know you are not alone. I had my ablation at 37 yrs old and about 2 years later I started having symptoms. HOT FLASHES FROM HELL! Literally every 20 mins, no sex drive at all, bad headaches, weight gain, and I can sleep for 12 to 14 hours wake up and go back to sleep with no problem. I am now 44 and my doc put me on effexor (antidepressant ) instead of hormones because effexor works to eliminate hotflashes. It worked for a couple years but now it has stopped helping at all and I'm stuck on this antidepressants and when I try to get off its like I'm losing my mind. I had blood work done and it showed my hormones low and non existent. I want to look into hormone therapy but with breast cancer in my family I'm scared. However I cannot live this way! I don't feel like myself at all. I wear a neck fan pretty much everywhere I go because my hot flashes are so bad. I don't want to leave the house and I feel like a freak. None of the docs I have talked with believe the ablation is the cause of these hormone problems. However when a woman stops bleeding whether forced or natural there has to be some kind of side effects. I just know Ius figure out what to do.
