{please note am not volunteering to organise meet up. DH would have ishoos }

CrispyHedgehog Wed 03-Oct-12 19:30:45

I'll come!

bigTillyMint Wed 03-Oct-12 19:34:10

Just marking my place, not volunteering to organise smile

I thought the September team did a fantastic jobwink

BrainSurgeon Wed 03-Oct-12 19:59:55

Found you - cheers Hearts smile

Yes, we do need a committee. I'll do some very little and easy work.

There, I've said it!

TheVermiciousKnid Wed 03-Oct-12 20:31:38

I will make a list of suggestions for venues. So far we've got:

Bunk house
Carvery
Castle

Any more?

marriedinwhite Wed 03-Oct-12 21:20:39

Am already booked for 15th and 16th December!!

FrankWippery Wed 03-Oct-12 22:07:43

Excellent work Hearts grin

I'm in. Very happy to do the grim and selfless task of checking out venues. I know it's bold and brave, but I'm that kind of person.

JugglingWithPossibilities Wed 03-Oct-12 22:16:15

Ooh, I might work out who you all are next time ? grin

BellaVita Wed 03-Oct-12 22:34:16

FrankWippery Wed 03-Oct-12 22:36:38

TomDaleysTrunks Wed 03-Oct-12 22:37:07

And we are leaving London soon.

Can I come?

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Wed 03-Oct-12 23:17:28

Count me in!

Stop being so smoke-centric you lot.

Grr.

TomDaley anyone and everyone can come, as evidenced by the ragtag bunch who turned up last Saturday grin

Frank I'd love to help you on the advance work.

P.S. good luck at the dentist

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 08:20:13

Hearts, it's a shedload of date then! Glad there are other selfless souls out there grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 08:23:29

I'll come!

I will help as well - not that I will be much cop as I only know 4 streets in London, but I will be on the committee if you need someone (perhaps I can be like Phoebe in Friends, in charge of cups and ice).

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Thu 04-Oct-12 08:32:14

Ragtag?!
EXCUSE me?!

beachyhead Thu 04-Oct-12 08:41:24

Maybe a mass Boris Bike ride.....I'm in, depending on dates....might get a good turnout if we do a Christmas, after Christmas, in the bleak of January, do....

bigTillyMint Thu 04-Oct-12 08:43:31

bleak of january Christmas do sounds like a good plan beachy!

NormaStanleyFletcher Thu 04-Oct-12 08:46:32

Marking place

Frontpaw Thu 04-Oct-12 08:49:09

Mememe!

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 09:19:39

I will cheer you all on and prod from the sidelines <selfless>

So, December then, Sat 1st?

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 09:21:14

Ah, Hully! The Arch Puppeteer ... grin

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 09:22:11

It was that puppet show from Sound of Music wot set me orf from a young age

HIGH ON A HILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 09:56:30

Saturday 1st sounds a good'un, I can't do any other weekend in December anyway.

And November is just NEXT MONTH. That's too soon <frets>

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 09:57:30

I have never watched Sound of Music.

Only saw Mary Poppins for the first time recently, that Julie Andrews is a sinister cah.

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 09:58:43

If I can bring a BF baby - I'll pop in even if it's only for an hour!! Hmmm thinking if it's end Jan could make DH wander the streets of London with the baby and just bring bump to be fed every hour or 2.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 10:01:28

Gerrof, Frank, Hearts and Brian

Saturday 1 December.

On your marks...

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 10:05:23

Excellent needanswers.
Bring your baby and we can gather around sniffing its head and saying 'oh baby looks tired/to cold/too hot/ is making too much noise/shouldn't be in a pub! and hoik our bossoms right over our heads

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 10:07:57

I can make 1st baby will still be inside then!

Suchabadperson Thu 04-Oct-12 10:22:26

Marking place...

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 10:22:49

Ok. I'm on it! I'll throw some venue ideas in and we can go and test them out grin What does everyone want for this? Proper trash/party, sedate, meal?

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 10:30:21

Frank, you are a bit tip top and no mistake.

I'll go with the flow on content. <so undemanding>

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 04-Oct-12 10:35:26

wine Any help with the testing, you know where I am.....

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 10:37:45

Like the idea of judgey hooked bossoms!!

I'm easy as I will be getting the 11 out of Victoria - I'd like to meet up earlier if poss with someone as I'll be going home same night.

Suchabadperson Thu 04-Oct-12 10:43:45

I am miles (and miles) away from London, but would love to come- if I can negotiate a hall pass with DP.

Excellent Frank. Thanks Hully. Sat 1st is far enough away that there should be nothing in the diary so far! I think it should either be then, e.g. early December, or after Christmas, e.g. mid-to-late-January because otherwise people are going to be caught up in RL Chrimbo chaos.

I quite liked the format of this most recent one - private area for us, lots of squidgy sofas to sit on, music not loud enough to drown out drivelling nonsense proper conversation, easy to move around the room and talk to lots of people, etc. Would be nice to be somewhere that didn't have last orders so early though.

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 11:35:38

Is it possible to apply for a licence extension?

I liked the format of this recent one, too. Although I appreciate that any Youngsters who might want to come would prefer Loud Musical Shenanigans.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 11:48:50

I do remember Podd leaning into my physog (shortly before falling over yet not spilling a drop) and saying rather menacingly DO YOU WANT TO DANCE? Like it was Shall I chop off their heads?

heh heh <blows kisses to Podd>

smoothieooo Thu 04-Oct-12 11:53:05

Marking my place as love the idea (yet will probably be too scared come the time). It's the squishy sofas that sold it to me grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:37:59

I don't like dancing tbh.

I do remember a slightly puzzled conversation with dolly where I said 'do you want to go somewhere else afterwards where there is music', and we both sat on the fence somewhat, before both annoucning FUCK another bar with music, let's go and take these shoes off.

I am also as deaf as a post so if there is loud music I may as well stand and talk to a portrait of the Queen Mother as I will be able to hear nowt .

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 12:39:36

I read that as

and we both sat on her face somewhat

and was like, wow, that is really open n shit

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:40:08

I think somewhere with a late licence would be good - I remember the chorus of the bar's closed - you must be bloody JOKING' grin

I did like Southwark though.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 12:40:19

I liked the last one too. Although I sat on the arm of the sofa as I was too shy to just chose someone to squish in next to.

Have we done tales from the evening yet. Has anyone told the one where Hully was accused of starting a 'middle class' thread and the force of her indignation literally knocked people over. It was awesome.

We should book platform. Lots of space and free nutritional advice from the waiting staff.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:40:52

HONESTLY.

Talk about lowering the tone. where's DaftPunk

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 12:42:10

Shes got her legs wrapped round our pag

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:42:20

Hahaha at the nutritional advice.

EAT YOUR GREENS and EAT SOME PUDDING and DO AS YOU ARE TOLD

I imagine that is how the sanatoria of soviet russia were managed, but with less pretty shoes and alcohol.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 12:43:06

Actually if I had eaten more veggies I might have warded off the ill. He knew his onions, that bossy man

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 12:43:54

<<screams a silent scream>>

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:44:50

I did like Platform, I took one of their Christmas menus and said to my colleagues LOOK this is a very trendy bar in London where you can get a nice Christmas Lunch for 20 quid and yet we are having to fork out 35 quid for a Christmas lunch in some jumped up, serviette and doily PROVINCIAL twat restaurant in Swindon.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Thu 04-Oct-12 12:45:26

Sooo- how does the name thing work, does everyone answer to MN name only?

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 12:46:35

Everyone wears badges with their MN names on, and we find out each other's real names, but if you are like me you will forget in 0.67 nanoseconds and just go by MN names generally.

HappyHippyChick Thu 04-Oct-12 12:50:28

I would love to come, couldn't make the last one as it was my sisters bday.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 12:51:18

Mn names mostly. My brain would explode otherwise.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 12:51:33

Knid said she'd do the list

where is that slacker?

BrainSurgeon Thu 04-Oct-12 12:58:21

1st December is the National Day of my home country so I can't come.

Joking.

OK I'll come and buy everyone a drinnk in honour of my country

JOKING AGAIN!

grin

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 12:59:56

Oh we have to do shots, Brian

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:05:27

Will look for places that have the following then:

1. Squishy sofas for the lazy arsed sitter downers of us.
2. Late licence
3. Own space
4. Louder music later on for them who wish to dance/make fools of themselves
5. Food? Smaller canapés do you think - 6-8 each, it seems that lots eat beforehand and start drinking, so perhaps just a few nibbles. Or, go the other way and actually have some kind of supper - perhaps a couple of curries/pots of chili sin/con carne? Or what?

Pistey it is actual law that you have to come and test places. Did you not know that?

BrainSurgeon Thu 04-Oct-12 13:10:17

Food wise, I reckon an early start of the do, with some nibbles (crisps and such) for those who start drinking early and a decent meal later on - don't mind what food.

This way we also spend a bit more time together, and get more food / drinks in!

marriedinwhite Thu 04-Oct-12 13:20:52

Agrees with brainsurgeon - a compromise over fewer pre meet-up drinks and an earlier start. It feels like a continuation of Saturday which was over all too soon. That's a compliment to all who organised and all who were present.

Lovely to read the thread.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:21:54

Good idea, Brian.

Drinks and nibbles and then pots of curry

yum yum yum

BerryLellow Thu 04-Oct-12 13:22:04

I want to come to this one, couldn't make last weekend. Is there a list?

I'm happy with any venue - Dancing or sitting down and getting very drunk is all good with me.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 04-Oct-12 13:23:29

Smashing Frank [ThumbsUp]

I love curry nearly as much as gin...

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:24:35

It is nice to read that people are enthusiastic for another meet up so soon isn't it, married.

It was over too soon, which is quite unusual really as it was a long night, we had our pre meet up at just gone half 5.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:26:03

Curry is a great idea.

However the only problem with having a sit down dinner like a Rotary Club dinner dance is that you can't mingle around - the great bit about Saturday was having the dinner egg and chips for me classy and then the drinks party bit where everyone just wandered about speaking to people in random fashion.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:26:59

But you can go and get your curry and then wander about?

bigTillyMint Thu 04-Oct-12 13:28:26

GetOrf Southwark is the best borough - I'm sure Mintyy will agree!

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 13:28:48

Curry buffet mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 04-Oct-12 13:28:56

I nearly posted about curry on Justine and Helen's thread...

Pre curry drinks starting as early as folk want
Curry
More drinks
Dancing
Drinks
Stay at a Traveldodgy as tis tradition but one that has a 24 hour bar....

Sleep for about an hour

Smashing...

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 13:29:37

If it's not too far from victoria that would be spiffing too - so I can get home smile

Shodan Thu 04-Oct-12 13:31:40

I might come to the next one just to meet Hully, as she didn't appear to be on my route from the food to the bar/smoking area and back.

Could I put in a plea for the bar to be on the same floor as the talky bit, next time? So tiring, all those stairs, esp. when having to Boris Bike it back to the hotel...

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:34:02

I hardly met anyone.

I don't know why.

<must try harder>

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:34:28

Didn't even know you wer there shodan...

Pistey you have summed it up admirably.

BrainSurgeon Thu 04-Oct-12 13:35:26

Curry buffet - genius.

This is starting to shape up nicely! smile

NolaFfing Thu 04-Oct-12 13:38:38

What was Hully doing smoking? shock

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:38:45

I had never set foot in Southwark before. It looked great fun.

Our traveldodgy bar looked like New Years Eve when we got back.

So

Curry
Drink
Feck
Arse
Gurls
Southwark
Travelodge

Shodan Thu 04-Oct-12 13:39:36

I didn't know you were there either, Hully. Bad self, being all non-mingly.

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:39:46

Well that gives me lots to play with and I will get on to it tomorrow.

JUst been back to the dentist and had my tooth removed. The abscess was fucking huge. I am now lying on the sofa waiting for my airy fairy painkillers to kick in and from there I shall mostly float in a haze. DD3, fortunately, is at a chum's this afternoon grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:39:50

I can't do curry BUFFET.

We may as well go to a carvery.

The pots will need to have lids and policed to stop POKERS.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:40:44

Good god you poor thing re abscess. It's GONE now so that terrible throbbing should go soon, hopefully.

needanswers Thu 04-Oct-12 13:41:00

Frank glad it's been sorted x

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:41:58

that sounds a bit rude

I like a bit of terrible throbbing

soz, I don't know what's wrong with me, I seem to have turned into Dick Emery

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:42:25

And yes, pore ol Frank <soothes>

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:42:57

gerrof, what do you imagine happens in the kitchens of indian restaurants, apart from cat murder?

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:43:10

YOu can police the pots then GetOrf.

bigTillyMint Thu 04-Oct-12 13:43:34

GetOrf, me too! (curry buffet -v- porkerness)

And no toothaches!

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 13:44:59

Hope things are less painful, Frank!

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:45:50

Ta Hully for the soothe.

Oh my it was the most painful thing EVER. I honestly don't know how I actually got through the weekend without decking someone. Anyone. Anyone who breathed.

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:46:38

They will be soon I hope BIWI, just need the drugs to do their thang grin

bigTillyMint Thu 04-Oct-12 13:46:46

I know - I had one in France on Easter. The French dentist was right onto it though with x-rays and horse-pills and the like.

BrainSurgeon Thu 04-Oct-12 13:47:49

<fluffs Frank's pillows> there there Frank, sweet dreams lovely grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:48:08

Oh I don't want to police pots. I just want someone else to do it.

I don't THINK what goes on in kitchens and people with fat cheffy fingers and scratching and runny noses. I just imagine that all my food is made my pixies.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:49:33

Abscesses are the most hideous pain as there is nothing on earth which will touch the pain, and you just lie there with your whole head throbbing (steady hully).

You were very brave frank, I had no idea that you were in such pain on Satursdau.

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 13:51:11

I was popping painkillers throughout GetOrf. And doing shots with Cat. Medicinal obvs. Not for her though, no. She is simply an out of control lush.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 13:52:03

what with pag as well it was just one big drug fest, clearly

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 13:53:09

I should have bought my tramadols and a bottle of Buckfast in a brown paper bag.

Can anyone come along?
Anyone being me btw! grin

I do not have a MN scarf or haircut. But I could bring naice ham and pombears.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:10:52

Yy, everyone welcome.
I ha e no ham, pombears, scarves or anything else.
I do have drugs.

I was so wasted I woke up thinking there was a fucking train in my room!

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 14:12:08

Hotcoffee of course. Are you a good drinker and can you talk bollocks, loudly and at speed? If so, you're in.

Yes Hully, Pag and I are proper druggies you know.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:12:20

It was in your room pag.

That picture is brilliant. You should go and link it on tripadvisor (shame you haven't got a photo of yourself looking mournful and pointing a la take a Break article or similar)

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 14:12:42

Excellent xpost Pags!

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 14:13:23

yy photoshop yourself into it, but with a copy of Horse and Hound for Clarse

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 14:13:51

Yes but GetOrf, did she have her beige shoes with her. All sad pointing pics for Take a Break and local rags insist on the subject wearing beige shoes.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:14:20

Oh bloody hell Getorf. I should have been by the window looking all [sadface].

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:14:29

No beige shoes sad

I felt Let Down.

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 14:15:12

She had a lovely frock tho

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:15:51

Yes sad face and the pointing.

Always has to be pointing.

Helps also if there is something slightly grubby in the picture, say a broken cup in the corner, or something spilled down your top, or half a dog on a sofa.

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 14:16:12

She did.

Suchabadperson Thu 04-Oct-12 14:16:22

I don't have a MN scarf either- too short!

I do, however have froot shoots and I reckon I can refill the bottles with gin.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:16:27

It was a lovely frock.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:17:12

I don't have the MN scarf either.

And I can't stand pom bears, don't waste my time with kooky crisps.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:19:36

Ooh. You liked my frock.

[happyface]

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 14:21:08

Oh yes, it was a lovely frock. I especially liked the sparkly bits.

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 14:23:45

suchabadperson - you are most definitely welcome if you're refilling froot shoots with gin.

RatherBeOnThePiste Thu 04-Oct-12 14:24:12

You have a lovely frock Pag - you told me it was well tailored to hide your arse, but there is bloomin nothing of you!

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:26:03

Oh yes I think I remember you saying on a thread ages ago that you have a bog bottom - but you are tiny, Miss Trunchbull you aint.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:26:19

Bog bottom oh dear <laughs>

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 14:26:59

grin

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:27:45

If you couldn't see the arse then it worked. See !

Gin fruit shoots? That is the a chat with social services in the making.

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:28:20

Bog bottom.
Good lord!

BrainSurgeon Thu 04-Oct-12 14:53:21

<hides under desk (at work) to laugh>

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Thu 04-Oct-12 14:53:57

Sorry pag <giggles>

Pagwatch Thu 04-Oct-12 14:55:03

I have to unload shopping.
Can we please change the subject and talk about something more suitable when I come back.
[prim]

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 15:22:46

what about if you nc to BogBotWatch <titter>

BellaVita Thu 04-Oct-12 16:10:36

For fucks sake you lot don't you know my hair appt is the week after in the 8th - I cannot possibly come with my grey roots the week before shock

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 16:13:26

Sit in a dark corner, we won't notice

BellaVita Thu 04-Oct-12 16:15:22

Thanks Hully for your reassurance grin

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere Thu 04-Oct-12 16:16:42

I might come.

BellaVita Thu 04-Oct-12 16:19:05

Well I have just txted DH to see if he is at home that weekend and he is so it could be a goer for me IF I can change my hair appt.

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 16:26:40

Oh, you have to come to the next one Mrs DeV - I missed you at the last one and I'd have loved to meet you smile - I think you were probably skulking outside with the smoking gang weren't you ? It was a bit tricky having the whole thing on two floors ? For a lazy arse like me anyway who is easily seduced by a nice squishy sofa

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere Thu 04-Oct-12 16:34:55

I was up and down like a bleedin' yo yo juggling
Not good in heels grin

TomDaleysTrunks Thu 04-Oct-12 17:02:44

Can't do the 1st, moving to Wales!

Boooo. Maybe next time.

Marking place - not coming to another meetup yet. Still bruised from last one and its costly for me not being local and all.

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 17:53:36

Oh, I'm sorry you can't make the next one Dances - It was lovely to meet you on Saturday - proper MN royalty ! grin

(not absolutely sure yet whether I can either ... last weekend I was luckily in London anyway, though had to escape from worthy Quaker committee meeting (love them really smile) ... so, another time I might get there earlier and stay later - Now I know you're all as scary as I thought you would be - but no scarier
grin

Sunnywithachanceofshowers Thu 04-Oct-12 20:05:32

I stayed in an Easyhotel in thatLondon recently, and it was really okay. I paid £10 less because I didn't want a room with a window.

BigStickBIWI Thu 04-Oct-12 20:08:58

We'll lure you there with alcohol, Dances ...

Mumsnet royalty???? <spits wine across laptop screen> Juggling you've gone bonkers!

<sneaks in quietly and sits in corner>

Southwark? I live in Southwark. And I'm quite a nice person. And I like gin... smile

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 20:26:21

But you're a blanketeer Dances ? All true royalty to me !

You should never have crocheted (?) that first square Dances if you wanted to conceal the blue blood coursing through your veins grin

- But yes, I don't know so much about gone bonkers - but I certainly have my own individual differences.
All power to the NNT's I say ... smile

Now I am a blanketeer, a fairly below average one, but a blanketeer none the less.

All hail to warm purple

FrankWippery Thu 04-Oct-12 21:03:52

Wow, that means I am royalty too then with my crocheted squares. Awesome. Dances, shall we get crowns and tiaras and stuff?

Hullygully Thu 04-Oct-12 21:07:35

WE ARE ALL OF THE BLOOD

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 21:34:32

Phew, they seem pleased - perhaps I'll escape with my head grin

Alphabeti, lucky you living in Southwark. You must be like cool and hip

Come to the next one!

ThatVikRinA22 Thu 04-Oct-12 22:00:32

i will come if i am not at work.

and if bella goes so i know someone! <shouts bella!!>

marriedinwhite Thu 04-Oct-12 22:18:11

sad DH has reminded me tonight that the works dinner and dance is on 1st December. I will think of you all as I nod and smile, nod and smile and certainly won't be getting drunk or dancing the night away (apart perhaps from sedate wiggle) nod and smile, nod and smile "and do tell me, how is Hector getting on?, "are you looking forward to the wedding?", "how dreadful about your mother - is the nursing home looking after her", "have you recovered from that dreadful case - but what a marvellous outcome for you".

Oh shit!! Have a lovely time one and all envy

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 22:35:36

Oh, I'm sorry you can't come and have fun with us MIW (that's if I do go) - I was just getting to know you (in RL smile)

Ha FrankWippery I love a drink, I only talk bollocks and I am Very Loud.

So what's the plan then? Do we stay overnight somewhere?

Where are we meeting?

I have read the thread btw but I can't make head nor tail. blush

I shall enjoy telling Himself that I am meeting strangers off the Internet.

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 23:10:35

Great NN BYW HotCoffeeIsAMemory smile

JugglingWithPossibilities Thu 04-Oct-12 23:11:23

My DH was suitably un-impressed by the concept too !

DilysPrice Thu 04-Oct-12 23:21:44

Southwark you say? I can get a black cab home from Southwark without taking out a second mortgage. Hell, at a pinch I could walk home from there, but not in the shoes which I am already planning to wear.

I was cruelly deprived of the last one by Real Life, but 1st December could be doable.

Oh good god, do we have to wear heels?!

I'll have to practice walking stumbling in some.

I am off to google just where Southwark is!

Oh. It's by London Bridge. Why didn't I know that. blush

Suchabadperson Fri 05-Oct-12 09:57:39

Oh, I am soooooooooooo coming!

I'm with you Hotcoffee

me- I'm going away for the weekend

DP- Where to?

me- I'm meeting random strangers of the internet, we are going to drink gin and have a curry buffet.

DP- hmm

me- It's ok, they are all off of Mumsnet.

grin

Novia Fri 05-Oct-12 10:05:11

Hello! I would be interested in coming... Haven't been to anything like this before though - does everyone already know each other? Also - I am preggers, so no booze which make me a bit boring! sad

Suchabadperson Fri 05-Oct-12 10:13:25

Novia, I haven't been to one before, and I don't know anyone in RL. Have been on MN for a couple of years though, so would recognise all the nicknames.

If you can't drink, stick with me and I'll have your gin.

Mintyy Fri 05-Oct-12 10:15:54

Have we decided on Southwark? That would be handy for me.

Suchabadperson Fri 05-Oct-12 10:22:12

How do you say Southwark?

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 10:25:16

Suth-rk

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 10:31:23

When I started work they used to make me say Southwark because I said south - waaark'
It was wrong and I was a bumpkin.
Those city boys couldn't get enough of it. Fucking weeks before anyone told me

Suchabadperson Fri 05-Oct-12 10:31:58

Thanks!

Just looking at hotels- my friend is a booking agent so I might ask her to have a look for me.

Frank - you really are MN royalty! HQ know who you are and everything, and not because you did anything wrong either...

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Fri 05-Oct-12 10:34:52

Say Southfork like JR Ewing.

I used to pronounce Arkansas as it is typed, I knew there was a place called Arkansaw because of Bill Clinton but I thought thwy were two different places <dumbass>

My aunt who lives in Essex really took the piss when I pronounced Theydon Bois with a frenchy flourish.

Mintyy Fri 05-Oct-12 10:36:52

What, like Theydon Bwah?

<heh heh heh>

I regularly laugh at Putri (an Indonesian via America) over her pronunciation. It has taken me 2 years to get her to say Suffolk correctly, we are still working on Norfolk... grin

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Fri 05-Oct-12 11:08:48

Yes, Theydon Bwaah.

I had no idea it was Theydon Boys.

Schtuuupid.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 11:13:59

I once arranged to meet a school friend at a bar in Beecham Place, knightsbridge. She didn't show but phoned me later to say shr spent hopurs looking for Beecham place. The road sign is Beachamp Place - everyone knows it's pronounced Beecham!! Days before mobile phones!!

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 11:14:13

So the last meet up was that good you're already planning the next one?
<cries>

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 11:17:13

What will your excuse be this time Absy dear?

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 11:27:04

I need time to come up with a good excuse.

Anyway, Sat night was a disaster. Had booked tickets to go to fancy pants cinema to watch movie DH desperately wants to see. Head off into cold dark night to fancy pants cinema. Turn up, show them fancy pants online tickets and the woman goes "erm, those tickets are for last week". I had booked the wrong day. No seats left, other movies all rubbish, so we decide, well, we're out of the house, let's at least go get a drink. Go to favourite bar - it's fecking closed. So we went home and watched Back to the Future and ate chocolate in silence.

My main issue (suggestions welcome) is how to explain that i'm going out to meet weirdoes people I met off the internet.

RatherBeOnThePiste Fri 05-Oct-12 11:31:40

Just say you are going out galavanting round Big London. Tis what I said.

wine

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 11:34:24

You say:

I am going out to meet people I have been friends with on the interweb for YEARS.

the end.

ExitPursuedByJKR Fri 05-Oct-12 11:35:28

Oooh Absy there you are. I am meant to be following your or something.

I will tentatively put my paw in the ring for this meet up.

But I can't do squishy sofas - you would need a crane to haul me up at the end of the evening or when it was my turn at the bar......

Suchabadperson Fri 05-Oct-12 11:38:32

I am going to plant the suggestion that it is a seminar and not a piss-up social occasion.

Mintyy Fri 05-Oct-12 11:38:36

Oh bless you and your country ways Getorf grin.

My friend's mum is from Swansea and fancies herself a bit glamorous. Infact she blooming well is glamorous for an 80+ year old. So, anyways, she doesn't stint on buying the old beauty care products, no Nivea for her, oh no. But she does insist on pronouncing her favourite French range as Clarrrran.

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 11:43:10

Oh crap - you're supposed to be my minion. Erm, now this is awkward. I haven't actually been around much, so, you know.

I live in Big London and haven't gone galivanting for YARS (man, I'm a loser).

I'll say I'm meeting friends, and then be veh vague. He'll probably not even notice, and be happy to have some peace for once. I've been happily adding DVDs to the lovefilm list going "I'm going to watch these when you're at [friend's] stag weekend! It will be awesome" "um, honey. That weekend's not until sometime next year" "I know! <adds more crappy 1990s romcoms to list>"

BigStickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 11:49:07

Me: I'm going out next [insert day]
DH: Who with?
Me: Some of my Mumsnet friends
DH: Again?

Easy.

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 11:49:59

It never occurred to me to think that having internet friends was odd

is it me?

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 11:51:57

My dh said, Oh that will be nice, you haven't met Paggy before have you? Oo says ds, say hi to Pagwatch and are the IPOAT going?

DD: Are the knitting ones going? Who else?

BigStickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 11:54:10

Me neither, Hully. I'm on here so much of the time, DH knows I live in my laptop!

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 11:58:24

Yy
I say

I am going to the mumsnet meet up
Dh : ok. Who are you going to meet
Me: Hully, getorfmoiland, fellatio, DollyTwat ,
Dh confused ok.....

I think he expects 'Sarah, Alison, penny.
He still can't cope with the nicknames thing.

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 11:58:44

No offense Hullz, but I don't really use you for a reference point as to what is and isn't odd.

Maybe on this thread I am odd <contemplates>

Let me know the date, and then I'll WRITE IT IN PEN in my diary (so it's set then) and I'll head out with you gals/CJs/Dames

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 11:59:04

At some stage he also expresses his sympathy or the bar staff.

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 12:00:06

Hooray!

I want to meet you Absy.
I will try not to lean on the bar for hours this time and be a bit braver.

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 12:00:10

DECEMBER 1st

isn't it Frank and committee?

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 12:05:56

It's in. In pen <-- serious

So, do you refer to each other by your MN names when seeing each other in person? Or your RL names so it's all
"oh hey Pag, I mean Fanoula. How's it hanging?"
"slightly to the left Felicity"
"Oh hey gals!"
"Howdy Brenda!"

?

Obvs all those names are made up. I'm pertty sure Paggy's real name is not Fanoula but it should be

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 12:09:51

Her real name is Bertha-Mae.

It's easiest to call people Um

Hullygully Fri 05-Oct-12 12:12:14

Are you really in Abs?

I'll write in CAPITALS on me calendar

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 12:12:42

Well, I just put my proper NN back on, I don't know why I change it.

I still kill threads stone dead!

We should all get T-shirts printed with our NN on, like a hen night! We could wear them with irony.

(I just really want a Mumsnet T-shirt)

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 12:26:05

I can't do real names. I can't.
I call Hully Hully or Hulls. I have refused to remember real names. It's awful but my brain is shit.
There was a lovely woman at the meet up who I kept smiling at because she was lovely. I shared a bit of a sofa with her. No fucking clue what her name is.
It's shameful.

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 12:27:43

The badges this year were excellent. Really big. I only had to peer a bit. But then <<pffffttt>>

Btw my iPad autocorrect pfffft to off fatty. Wtf?

ExitPursuedByJKR Fri 05-Oct-12 12:35:47

Can I take several badges so that I can name change at random points throughout the evening?

MissVerinder, we do actually have badges with our MN names on.

Wouldn't mind a MN t-shirt though.

The only reason I know real names is because of the FB page. But mostly I remember people by their MN name.

ExitPursuedByJKR Fri 05-Oct-12 12:36:24

Actually, I am old, I can please myself what I do.

Oh yes.

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 12:38:22

I didn't go on the fb page.

I would have liked to see if after the evening. Was there gossip and compromising photos?

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 13:08:40

THERE'S A FB PAGE!?!?

No way.

I thought this would be like a Secret Service party grin

DameAbsy Fri 05-Oct-12 13:38:59

I'm IN Hully, like graphic prints on skirts this a/w (how tragic that;s the best comparison I can come up with). I honestly can't keep woosing out of these things.

It will be so amazing! And strange!

MissV - TSSDNCOP grin

Yes, if you PM FrankWippery and ask nicely, she can add you to the FB group. Some people use their RL names/profiles on there and some set up a MN one if they do not want to mix RL and MN. Either is fine, whatever you are comfortable with!

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 14:08:20

I have to reveal my real identity?

Am I protected by the sacred oath of MN meetups? grin

Will PM Frank, post-haste.

ExitPursuedByJKR Fri 05-Oct-12 14:54:24

How do you create a separate FB identity?

<luddite>

Can we confirm if people are staying overnight so I can sort out a hotel. confused

I am coming in from Essex so can get home if necessary but I don't like getting the last train the vomit comet envy

My dh is away but I want to see his face when I tell him I am meeting weirdos from the Internet in London. grin

I am on fb but I think I'm quite locked down. I shall PM FrankWippery and see if I can have added to the special group.

I'm not wearing a t shirt with my name on unless its a v neck as round necks make me look stupid as my norks are huge. hmm

Oh and I need to diet. Or pretend I'm pregnant at the meet. But then I wouldn't be able to drink. wine

I have never used so many emotions in one post before. thanks

bigTillyMint Fri 05-Oct-12 17:18:09

Is it going to be a new group, or an extension of the September one?

vomit cometgrin

Tilly, it's truly vile. Coming back from gigs, someone always vomits. I hate it. Have a slight phobia. This phobia is ridiculous when you have kids. I didn't think that through very well. hmm

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 17:52:21

If I can come I will definitely stay over. It is waaaay better than fretting about the train.

BigStickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 17:54:25

So you just had trains to look at instead!

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 18:01:17

grin oh yes

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 18:01:28

I'll be a stopper over as well, pending discussion with DP.

He's being a total dick at the moment, so I'm ignoring him <mature emoticon>

www.premierinn.com/en/search.action.

Hope my link works if anyone wants to share with me. A total stranger. shock

Fucks sake. I typed in Southwark and it brought up a load of them nearby.

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 18:44:23

I think if I stayed over, rather than skipping off to catch the last tube, I would be unbelievably wrecked. And then waking up the next morning, knowing I've yet to go home would just be awful.

Pagwatch Fri 05-Oct-12 18:47:55

Nah.
I left at a decent hour, walked back to a lovely bed and a cup of decaf. No tripping around trying not to wake people up or having to stand in the gardn because the dog is so excited that I came home that he needs to shit.
Comfy bed, shower in the morning, breakfast buffet.
No vomit comet.
All good.

BellaVita Fri 05-Oct-12 19:14:45

That was me Pag grin. I shall write my name on your hand next time!

Yey!! I might be brave and come!

Hearts I am not cool though, despite living in Southwark. I ended up here accidentally.

Yey! An actual meet up!!! What on earth to wear?!?!

What's the fb page called?

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 20:02:19

I have just requested entry into the magic FB group- Alphabeti, there is a linky on the September shinding thread's OP.

bigTillyMint Fri 05-Oct-12 20:14:51

waves to Alphabetti - fellow Southwarker heresmile

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 20:20:53

I think I might be the furthest away so far.

Will you all still be friends with me when me and my Northern accent come to play?

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Fri 05-Oct-12 20:20:57

Imagine being so exciting to a creature that you inspire them to gleefully shit. [Grin]

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 20:22:41

I'm a Northerner, MissVerinder, and I was still allowed to play!

DilysPrice Fri 05-Oct-12 20:23:37

How much do people dress up? Can I wear my special S&B approved frock? <googles Spanx>

bigTillyMint Fri 05-Oct-12 20:25:45

Me toogrin

Oh can I sign up also please, have missed two so far so third time lucky!

Yey bigTillyMint. Dare I ask which part of suvvark you live in.

BellaVita Fri 05-Oct-12 20:32:30

MissV I live in York.

bigTillyMint Fri 05-Oct-12 20:44:25

East Dul. How about you?

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 20:54:02

If those of you have applied to join the FB group PM me your RL names, I'll add you

ShirleyRots Fri 05-Oct-12 20:55:49

A meet up you say?

Are you in need of a female Russell Brand?

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 20:59:09

You have to come this time, Shirl!

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 21:00:13

Yay! BIWI! Tilly!

Dilys, there is a S&B approved frock?

Dul Vil!

Valpollicella Fri 05-Oct-12 21:21:45

It the LAW that you have to do one Meet Up in your MN llife. And the London Xmas one is one to aim towards grin

I am in the secret group.

Oh my, you are a glam lot.

I have 8 weeks to lose 2 stone and buy decent clothes....

BellaVita Fri 05-Oct-12 21:29:41

Shirl, I missed you last week.

Blatherskite Fri 05-Oct-12 21:29:42

If Shirley's coming, I'm coming!

<luffs Shirley>

<and Frank>

I can't find the group! Or the last meet up thread! Is it my phone? Help!

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 21:39:33

Northern is good - I have been sleeping with Northern for 23 years! It only surfaces nowadays though when he's very tired or a bit tipsy. I met someone from Kirskstall Abbey (sp) a few weeks ago though and she was gobsmacked that I narrrowed her down to not just West Leeds but somewhere near Bramley grin.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 21:40:40

envy, angry, envy, angry

BellaVita Fri 05-Oct-12 21:50:25

I grew up very very near Kirkstall Abbey grin

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 05-Oct-12 21:54:09

My dad/brother live very near Kirkstall Abbey! I grew up in Roundhay

BellaVita Fri 05-Oct-12 21:57:28

BIWI grin

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 22:21:36

Woo hoo - all a bit close to DH's lot. They aren't quite as posh as Roundhay though grin. Think shadow of the Nick and Alan Bennett.

FunnysInLaJardin Fri 05-Oct-12 22:25:04

How about a Jersey meet up. Its, fun. It's sunny. I live here, it's easy for me. How about that? Flybe do cheap flights............I can't get to Lon Don. It's too far and too expensive.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 22:29:18

In fact he'll be emerging from Leeds Playhouse with his mother round about now. Should have been there last weekend and then I could have come earlier and stayed later. This weekend I am home alone with the teenagers and not much, except a coffee with a mate tomorrow and church on Sunday to do sad.

MissVerinder Fri 05-Oct-12 22:29:45

Ooh, I'm not that far north then really, just Robin Hood Country.

Funnys, I would bloody LOVE Jersey.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 22:31:16

And "FunnysInLaJardin" it's got a Church of Scotland Church - went to wedding there once and stayed in a nice hotel called the Lily Langry I think. Twas nice; but wet if I recall. If you charter a jet for us we'll all come grin.

FunnysInLaJardin Fri 05-Oct-12 22:40:22

married it NEVER rains in Jersey. Tis a Jersey Tourist Board Fact that. OK OK, I'll charter a jet. How many are coming?

Didn't know about the COS btw, but there are loads of scots here and irish. Plus a million folk from Portugal and Poland. We are very multicultural ewe know

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul Fri 05-Oct-12 22:49:26

Oooh Jersey sounds lovely.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 22:53:55

It rained one weekend in February 1995. I know; I had an 8 week old baby and just about squeezed back into my best Droopy and Browns dress! Perhaps it was the only occasion. The bride sends us a family Christmas card every year with her, her DH and their lovely boys on it; just like the royal family grin. May just have outed self on this thread.

FunnysInLaJardin Fri 05-Oct-12 22:55:00

ohhh, married who are they, I might know them.

marriedinwhite Fri 05-Oct-12 22:58:28

You might wink.

Funnys, the airport 5 mis away from my house flies direct to Jersey.

Could potentially do a meet there!

Pagwatch Sat 06-Oct-12 10:02:15

BellaVita!

Oh hooray. Thank you for telling me.

I love that you knew that I meant you - I kept simpering at you across the room. You are just so lovely. But please don't be scared.

ShirleyRots Sat 06-Oct-12 10:07:34

<lurks round edges of thread>

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sat 06-Oct-12 10:53:07

Shirl I hope you can come - everyone says you are wonderful, it would be great to meet you.

ShirleyRots Sat 06-Oct-12 11:05:52

Aw. I feel all loved. <sprinkles hearts and shit around>

I'm like that in RL as well. I'm like a big old LOVE SPRINKLER.

Also. I get drunker than everyone else and so I make people look good. wink

Ok, so I am diarising the first then.

Diarising. What a clench.

ShirleyRots Sat 06-Oct-12 11:07:00

BIWI can you add me to the FB group please petal?

Another meet up, you say? <ponders>

If there's a FB group, please can someone add me? Thanks

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 11:33:49

Shirl - you're already a member!

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 11:34:28

...as are you, cupoftea

Unless there's another FB group? confused

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 11:36:15

Have done as asked and changed the name (hope Frank is OK with that!)

Oh I see, the group has just namechanged. That's ok then!

ShirleyRots Sat 06-Oct-12 13:59:23

What? Am I? WTF?

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 14:02:29

I think so .... doubts self

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 14:02:51

Bold fail.

<doubts self>

doubly!

MissVerinder Sat 06-Oct-12 14:34:55

If I post on the FB page, can my friends see what I post?

They do not need to know my NN smile

ShirleyRots Sat 06-Oct-12 15:13:40

No. I am definitely not in any MN meet up groups.

I was added to the one from last time, but because I couldn't make it I left so that people didn't feel uncomfortable.

Because I'm lovely like that.

MissVerinder Sat 06-Oct-12 15:21:40

Shirley sad

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 16:42:54

Shirl - send a request to join the group - Mumsnet Christmas Shenanigans 2012 and I'll add you.

marriedinwhite Sat 06-Oct-12 17:57:39

Right - off subject a bit but as DH is determined to return to what he regards as the land of dreams and as DS will be gone from us next year and we are downsizing in London and cranking up the machine to spend more time in Yorkshire (DD could move for 6th form - Leeds High School, St Peter's, Ampleforth, Harrogate Ladies College) - what would be better: Harrogate or somewhere like Adel or Alwoodly. We will not be doing a village miles from anywhere because it is likely we may be there when we are very elderly and my conditions are: railway station (walking distance), town centre (walking distance), decent hospital (10-15 minute drive), bit of culture. I don't know why but I'm just not terribly keen on York.

bigTillyMint Sat 06-Oct-12 18:19:10

married, only slightly off subjectgrin

Harrogate is terribly naice!

I adored Harrogate when I was there a couple of years ago for a conference. Bunked off one of the sessions and had a little wander. Twas lovely.

DorsetKnob Sat 06-Oct-12 18:32:49

weeps and wails as can't make this one either sad

marriedinwhite Sat 06-Oct-12 18:39:33

Biwi - Bella >>>shouts<<<< your're from up there. Where? DH doesn't really care as long as I agree and I have already put my foot down and said it won't be the nice part of where he was dragged up grewup where Barbara Taylor-Bradford and Alan Bennett came from

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sat 06-Oct-12 19:15:48

Lol at Barbara Taylor Bradford

<Wasn't obsessed with the idea of Emma Harte when I was 13 oh no>

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Sat 06-Oct-12 19:17:34

Married you don't REALLY have to go to your DH's works dinner dance do you? [Gron]

big I just requested to join the fb group! grin

Although I have lurked and recognise all your nn I have never been brave enough before. I'm a bit scared tbh!!!

Yey! wine

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 19:32:59

Harrogate is truly lovely. And I think would fulfill all your requirements - although it depends what you mean when you say a bit of culture. I have no idea what the cultural side of Harrogate is. Leeds has the Playhouse, which does some fab stuff, and the Grand Theatre, as well as the art gallery - but then it's easy to get into Leeds from Harrogate.

The only thing to consider is where you want to get a train to. I think I'm right in saying that direct trains from Harrogate to London are few and far between - you have to get a train into Leeds first, I think (or possibly York?), whereas trains from Leeds and York to London are frequent and fast. In the case of York, super fast.

marriedinwhite Sat 06-Oct-12 19:45:58

This BIWI is why I'm wondering about Adel and Alwoodly because for at least 10-15 years DH will still be based in London professionally but working from "home" when he can. DH also hates driving. I can't rationalise it but I just don't like York - I find it stifling.

Getorf regrettably I do have to go to the other party effing boring dinner dance have done for the last 23 years (this will be the 24th [horror emoticon].

I will think of you all and snort a bit as I greet earnest 20 and 30 somethings and wonder if they can imagine me meeting up with a bunch of hairy armed nutters off the internet grin.

Next time sad.

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 20:18:24

Biwi (getting back on to thread subject here) - does one have to have paid and everything to get on the Dec 1st meetup fb group? And are you in charge with your big stick?

BellaVita Sat 06-Oct-12 20:27:36

How was your "big" birthday do Mintyy?

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 20:32:18

Aww thank you for remembering Bella grin. Well, there have been 3 separate "dos" so far and one more to come, and when that is over I shall feel well and truly over the hump. It has been like the Queen's jubilee here I tell ya!

PrincessSymbian Sat 06-Oct-12 20:36:18

I would really love to come, but do I really have to join a Facebook group in order to be able to?

BellaVita Sat 06-Oct-12 20:43:57

God, wait till you start approaching the next big one like me... I won't be having any "do's" grin. i will just want to fade into the back ground.

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 20:49:23

Bella - I am quietly confident that I am older than you and that the BIG one we have been discussing is the one I have just had grin. I tried to ignore it but it wouldn't go away! In the end I got harrassed/bullied into celebrating with all sorts of different people (but am glad I did).

Pagwatch Sat 06-Oct-12 20:53:16

Ahem.

I am fucking fifty. Anything under that is a mere slip of a thing...

BellaVita Sat 06-Oct-12 20:53:45

Mintyy really? I thought the big four 0 had paid a visit to you?

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 20:54:46

Indeed, and are you not on the cusp of 51 my duck?

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 20:54:49

Mintyy - I'm not in charge - don't think anyone has got as far as talking about money! I just happen to be an admin for the FB group.

No-one has to join the FB group, although that is where we will share info like venue, photos, etc.

BellaVita Sat 06-Oct-12 20:54:58

Pag, for such a demure looking woman, I am shock that the word fucking has come out of your mouth grin.

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 20:55:30

No twas the one that begins with a five wink.

BellaVita Sat 06-Oct-12 20:58:43

shock. I stand corrected grin

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 21:00:46

(Biwi - this is the point where you say you have never seen a younger looking 50 year old so full of joie de vivre and hilarious wittiness etc after our mini meetup with dear Stealthy and co. in Farringdon).

So ... will you invite me on to the Christmas do one?

Pagwatch Sat 06-Oct-12 21:01:26

Yep. Staring down the barrel of 51. Ah well...

Sorry Bella <chastened>

marriedinwhite Sat 06-Oct-12 21:01:33

five is very very good. Is becoming a memory sad. Oddly it wasn't the elderly on the sofas - we were on our feet and running up and down the stairs having learnt to pace ourselves. grin

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 21:05:00

Mintyy. You really, really don't look as if you're 50. If you'd told me you were having your 40th, I would have believed you.

If you let me know what FB name you want to use, I'll add you to the group! (Just in case you don't want to use your real name)

married - North Leeds would probably suit you better; but it doesn't have to be Adel/Alwoodley - some lovely villages just to the North, like East Keswick, or Wike. Having said that, it's years since I actually lived there.

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 21:09:49

Oh tosh Biwi you are just saying that grin.

Hmm, why would I not want to use my rl name? I can't see the danger in it from a group of mumsnetters. Will have a little think.

CrispyHedgehog Sat 06-Oct-12 21:18:46

Hope no one minds but I've applied to what I think is the right fb group.. my initials are RW

FrankWippery Sat 06-Oct-12 21:30:45

I've added you Crispy. Was just about to PM you to say the very same.

FrankWippery Sat 06-Oct-12 21:35:16

Evening all,

Sorry I've been a bit absent the past couple of days. DS took me by surprise on Friday night and rocked up with 4 of his chums from school. Suddenly I had to feed these 15/16 year old creatures and they eat A FUCKING LOT. And they make noise. To 3am. Still, I sent DD3 in to jolly them along this morning at 9am.

I have had a quick look for places that fit our criteria and will ring them on Monday morning one the urch is at nursery school. I am hoping to be able to do a £20 job again, which I don't think is at all unreasonable for food and a couple of drinks/half bottle of wine per head ish.

Sticking around Southwark area again - is everyone happy with that, or would people like me to look in other areas too?

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 21:53:48

Mintyy - I just didn't want to presume that you wanted to join in your real name!

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 22:48:48

What do people generally do? I don't think I am savvy enough to create another fb account. Is it not a good idea to do it in your rl name?

<feels naive>

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 06-Oct-12 22:50:27

Mine is in my own name, and most people do it in their real name. I was just being sensitive to you and not assuming anything!

Mintyy Sat 06-Oct-12 22:51:55

Oh I'm going to throw caution to the wind! How do I join?

PrincessSymbian Sun 07-Oct-12 11:16:33

But do we have to join the Facebook group, as I would love to come but try and avoid the dreaded fb nowadays!

Princess, not at all, the FB group is just so everyone can talk bollocks and post photos. You can get all the info you need on here or via PM.

Mintyy, for this past meet up I set up a separate FB identity (new email address and so on) but then found it so confusing and annoying that I ended up deleting that profile and joining as the real me. On the other hand some people never use their RL names at all. It's just whatever you're comfortable with!

Mine fb account is in my own name.
Well actually my surname isn't. blush

I am quite excited about this. grin

BigBroomstickBIWI Sun 07-Oct-12 14:47:20

Find the group - Mumsnet Christmas Shenanigans 2012 and ask to join - I'll admit you. (If you're doing it in your real name, send me a PM so I know who you are first!)

FrankWippery Sun 07-Oct-12 15:22:05

So, is anyone going to answer my questions or am I free to do anything wink

BigBroomstickBIWI Sun 07-Oct-12 15:34:57

Sorry Frank! Yes, I was very happy with the venue - would it be worth going there again?

JugglingWithPossibilities Sun 07-Oct-12 15:41:39

I liked the venue but think it would be worth finding somewhere all on one floor
for us oldies, ooh me knees and more squishy sofas next time please for those of us who like a nice sit down ! grin

I like the curry night idea myself smile

What took place last time? Not shenanigans! But what did you do?
I love Indian food.
Actually, I just love food. blush

BigBroomstickBIWI Sun 07-Oct-12 17:25:16

Er - let's see if I can remember ...

Drank
Talked
Drank
Talked
Drank
Talked
Ate some canapes
Talked
Drank
Talked
Drank
Ate cake
Talked

.... then I went home on the tube before the witching hour

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere Sun 07-Oct-12 17:35:50

Can you look for something in Walthamstow?
Apart from it being terribly convenient for moi...
I want to see te look on MNers faces when they get off the tube

Mwah ha haaaa

YesIKnowIHaveGlitterOnMyFace Sun 07-Oct-12 17:57:51

I'm sad I won't be able to do this one

But I'll organise one next year if you like in Cheltenham
Tis nice here

We had a good turn out last time. Getorf me and you could check out a few venues

YesIKnowIHaveGlitterOnMyFace Sun 07-Oct-12 18:10:40

Getorf I've nc
You do know me!

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea Sun 07-Oct-12 18:22:02

Is there a definite date yet, as I can get to Southwark?
If anyone wants me to that is.sad

FrankWippery Sun 07-Oct-12 18:25:54

MrsDV, I think that is a genius idea, it would indeed be a sight to behold grin.

MrsRobertD - Saturday 1st December, of course you are welcome, so long as your drinking and talking bollocks skills are up to scratch.

BIWI - I have a couple of others v. close by to that one that I am going to speak with tomorrow. From their websites they 'look' similar IYSWIM. I actually did have it in mind to call the venue again and see if we can talk curry and extensions, Maybe even have the whole gaff too.

Sounds like I can do that BIWI!

I'm easy for whatever.

Slightly selfishly I'd like it arranged soon so I can book a hotel. blush

FrankWippery Sun 07-Oct-12 19:14:09

I should have some answers for you in the next couple of days Hotcoffee.

BigBroomstickBIWI Sun 07-Oct-12 20:12:16

Sounds good, Frank!

<ignores MrsDV>

Mintyy Sun 07-Oct-12 20:29:32

I've been to Walthamstow MrsDV. Infact one of my oldest friends lives there. She's got a nice fairly big house. Perhaps we can persuade her to host us? wink

I've never understood why Walthamstow is still such a well-kept secret. After all, its on the bloomin' Victoria line!

beachyhead Sun 07-Oct-12 20:59:52

Sorry, I've got my lovely outlaws that weekend... Frankly you all know I would prefer to be with you lot, but needs must and I can't avoid them for ever, (can I?)

Thanks FrankWippery x

MissVerinder Sun 07-Oct-12 21:01:38

Oooh, excited <squeeeeeee>*

*Disclaimer, I also do this IRL. Sorry.

OrangeandGoldMrsDeVere Sun 07-Oct-12 21:03:15

Everyone knows someone who lives or has lived in Walthamstow, or they have lived there themselves.
Its like some sort of law of some sort of science thing or whatever.

Mintyy is she a MNer? There are a few of us now, although none of the others live in my bit. They lives in the Village - vair posh grin

Mintyy Sun 07-Oct-12 21:04:52

She is so not posh. I don't know if she mns, tis not something I discuss with my rl mates grin.

Blatherskite Sun 07-Oct-12 21:06:18

I know someone who lived in Walthamstow! <feels included>

East 17 are from Walthamstow.

hates self for knowing that fact

PrincessSymbian Mon 08-Oct-12 08:12:28

My RE teacher lived in Walthamstow.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Mon 08-Oct-12 12:49:24

I don't know anyone who lives in Walthamstow, but I know someone who lives in Barking.

Re Walthamstow, on a meet up last year MrsDV said she was coming in from the 'Stow. I got a little confused and thought she may have meant Stow on the Wold.

bigTillyMint Mon 08-Oct-12 15:08:51

I know a MNer who lives in Walthamstow and she is luffly.

grin @ Stow on the Wold!

MrsDeVere Mon 08-Oct-12 16:32:35

I have been to Stow on the Wold
They have a horse sale thingy.

JugglingWithPossibilities Mon 08-Oct-12 17:27:22

Ooh yes, let's go to the horse sale at Stow !

< fails to read whole thread yet again grin >

MrsDeVere Mon 08-Oct-12 17:41:00

Getorf! Fgs you know someone in Woodford! That is practically Walthamstow, well much more than sodding Barking hmm

Pagwatch Mon 08-Oct-12 18:53:01

I used to live in Plaistow. And Leyton. And Lewisham.

I tried to tell MrsDeVere about a cocktail bar I used to go to in Walthamstow but she looked at me like this hmm
I failed her Eastendar.

MrsDeVere Mon 08-Oct-12 18:57:19

Ha ha.
I did believe you.
Specially when you told me it shut down after about a week.
grin

Pagwatch Mon 08-Oct-12 18:59:42

grin
Sad but true.

TandB Mon 08-Oct-12 19:44:28

Yes please! I will definitely make this one.

The place we went to last year was okay, wasn't it?

Only if they explain to the DJ that its more about talking than dancing hopes coolwhip didn't see this

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Mon 08-Oct-12 21:32:11

Nooo, the person I know lives in Chigwell and wishes wishes that she lived in Woodford because Chigwell is so, well, Essexy.

There is a mumsnetter on here who said that she can't leave London, tried to live in Suburbia (aka Wanstead) and went running back to Hackney after 6 months.

You city lol make me feel like a bumpkin. I think Plaistow sounds like it sgould be in Poland fgs.

MrsDeVere Mon 08-Oct-12 21:37:37

When I moved to Walthamstow I was unnerved by the quiet and lack of police helicopters overhead. I can see a forest from the top of my road shock

Mind you I had come from the road next to Holloway Prison where we used to lie abed listening to the cussing from the back cells.

Ahhhh thems was the days.

Nices houses in Wansted mind, and handy for Westfields.

JugglingWithPossibilities Tue 09-Oct-12 13:58:27

random fact alert ...

We once lived in Wanstead - well opposite Redbridge station on Central Avenue to be precise (outs self again !)

Come to think of it, it was rather like living next to Grand Central Station grin

Much quieter where we are now - right out in the provincial stix smile

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Oct-12 01:04:27

Having read lots of the feedback from 29th, and read between the lines a bit, I have a suggestion. Based on on the fact that quite a few people went to the last thing wanting to meet certain people but didn't because it was a bit upstairs/downstairs, outside having a fag, fragmented, and the bar shut quite early. And there wasn't any dancing which would have facilitated random, casual contact.
What about having a slightly formal, earlier start with (gasp) a table plan. But after the first course/first half hour/first hour people move places. And then again after 2nd half hour... blah blah sure you all get the drift. Obvs that's when we do the do the curry scoffing.
And then move on to the milling about/dancing bit when everyone has had a short, unpressured time to get to know each other.
I just found that I would stare at a bosom and say "Oh blimey, you're XXX" and then go completely blank because they were on the move, or I was, so I felt like, yes I put faces to names, but didn't really get to know anyone.
Apart from the darling cat of course.
Quite happy if you all say this is a shit idea.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Oct-12 01:13:39

Scrap the table plan.
It's the moving bit that's important.
I'm going to bed now.
Promise.

ThatVikRinA22 Wed 10-Oct-12 01:23:56

i know this is lazy mumsnetting but im not always on here at the most regular times!
would someone please pm me when a venue and a date is set?

and bella - if your going will you meet with me to go together if i can go? we could meet at york station....

BellaVita Wed 10-Oct-12 06:39:55

Have PM'd you back Vic.

I cannot justify the expense sad. Work started on our kitchen on Monday and there are loads of extra things I would like (new baking stuff, deep clean of the whole house to get rid of the dust once everything is finished in a couple of weeks, new blind for the kitchen/utility and the list goes on...). Whilst DH would never begrudge me going, I think I need to play fair seen as it is him that has given me free reign of his bonus.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt Wed 10-Oct-12 13:28:20

Oh no Bella that is such a shame.

BigBroomstickBIWI Wed 10-Oct-12 13:29:18

Surely he wouldn't notice if you'd gone? Tell him you've slipped out to buy a pint of milk wink

<waves to the whole world>

Have been a norty MNer and not been around too much lately, what with pesky RL getting in the way, but am so looking forward to December. I need very very many huge glasses of wine and you grand folk are just the ones to share them with.

Frank, said RL means that I probably can't join you on the exploratory mission. I'm so sorry as it would have been soooo great - maybe next time? I shall PM you.

Bella, that's a shame - you are one of the many I would love to talk to more!

bewitched I like your idea of table swapping after every course or 30 mins or whatever!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Thu 11-Oct-12 23:06:53

Thanks Hearts, I think it could work well as a small part of the evening.
Otherwise it can all be a bit ships in the night.

Just keeping this live in the "threads I'm on"

smoothieooo Fri 12-Oct-12 14:30:21

Me too keeping it live. Even though (as said previously) I am pooing my pants a bit at the thought of meeting in RL but would be so proud of myself if I did. Even if I just stood in the corner and drank loads of wine which I'm exceptionally good at.

I am scared! wink

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 15:29:13

I don't want a table plan. I don't want formal seating.
I always end up sitting next to some dull fuck when there is fixed seating. It's like the law or something.
Nothing worse than someone telling you about their dreadful local school and the surprisingly high failure rate of bunion operations for hours with no chance of escape

<<bitter>

BigBroomstickBIWI Fri 12-Oct-12 15:31:46

I agree. Much prefer being able to roam around at will.

<shudders at thought of bunion talk>

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 15:35:02

I know it means you may miss out on some people you want to meet, so I totally understand the intention. It is just a bit cringy if you don't kind of click at all with the person you get seated next to.

But my local school is dreadful!

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 16:28:22

<hides>

grin

JugglingWithPossibilities Fri 12-Oct-12 16:32:36

Ooh, me bunions !

You'll never believe it but I first suffered with inflamed bunions when I was 20, and still at Uni. I've had an 'ard life wink

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 16:56:49

Oh dear god. What have I started?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Fri 12-Oct-12 17:04:15

Alright, alright, it was only an idea grin.
Can we have some tables for eating at though, please, otherwise I'll end up with korma down me cleavage!

JugglingWithPossibilities Fri 12-Oct-12 17:26:01

A nice sit down sounds great to me Bewitched - take the weight off my feet grin

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Fri 12-Oct-12 17:30:44

Exactly, Juggling, and we can plan our bunion tutorial for Pagwatch.
They're hereditary you know!

bigTillyMint Fri 12-Oct-12 17:36:44

Well I don't have bunions or awful schools, so it can't be me Pag is talking about, phew grin

MrsDeVere Fri 12-Oct-12 18:31:41

I don't like sitting down, I am a proper fidget arse.
I don't like food much neither

<causes problems>

Apart from that, Im easy grin

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 19:51:08

It wasn't an MN do BigTilly. Of course not, the chat at an mn is endlessly fascinating. Obviously.

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 19:51:33

Except me.

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 19:52:23

That should be mine.

<digs bigger hole>>

bigTillyMint Fri 12-Oct-12 19:57:12

grin

BellaVita Fri 12-Oct-12 21:09:15

It is a shame I am not going, because I would really like to meet you Hotcoffee.

Pagwatch Fri 12-Oct-12 21:18:40

I am sorry you can't make it Bella.

Aww Bella! blush x

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Fri 12-Oct-12 23:54:19

I will miss you Bella, I managed to hug you last time.
Next time I might have actually spoken to you!

Do we think she might change her mind nearer the time?

JugglingWithPossibilities Sat 13-Oct-12 10:41:22

I think I spotted you last Meet-Up BIWI - if that's you hiding beneath your witches cloak ? < easily confused confused >

So, hoping for an allegedly un-Mumsnetty hug next time ?!

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 13-Oct-12 10:43:57

That's me! Not sure I like this name, actually. People keep calling me Broom or Stick, rather than BIWI. Still, as long as they don't call me Big grin

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 13-Oct-12 10:45:09

Pag I think the secret is just to get so pissed you have no idea what you're talking about. Therefore, most importantly, no recollection what anyone else talked about, other than it was endlessly fascinating and amusing.

TheMightyRubester Sat 13-Oct-12 10:48:05

It's rubyrubyruby here.

Is this the 1st Dec one?

I can't come <<sob>> you will have to do your own fecking badges.

<<bitter>>

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 13-Oct-12 10:49:22

Oh no! What will we do without you badges?! wink

JugglingWithPossibilities Sat 13-Oct-12 11:05:51

Oh I'm sorry you're not coming Ruby - and I owe you for my last lovely badge too - really sorry about that. I was slightly over-whelmed to see everyone last time and forgot to put my pennies in the basket. Hope to catch up with you and settle my debts before too long ?

Mintyy Sat 13-Oct-12 12:28:18

I agree with Biwi - if you drink in sufficient quantities you won't remember the pain of the bunion talk and the dreadful schools. And you will in turn breeze around the room chatting to everyone and thinking "well, hey, this is fun and everyone is terribly nice and they all seem to find me endlessly fascinating" but that could actually all be total bollocks. But no harm done at t'end of day if no one remembers what was said.

Biwi and I had such a conversation at our mini meetup (but I did actually think you were a splendid gal, natch). I know it was intriguing and I was sad when you had to leave to get your train - its just that I don't remember quite a lot of it!

I liked your BecauseI'mWerewolefIt seasonal nn btw Biwi dear.

BigBroomstickBIWI Sat 13-Oct-12 12:43:33

My favourite remains BecauseImWoeufIt, but I daren't roll that one out again!

CrispyHedgehog Sat 13-Oct-12 19:12:30

smoothieooo I'll lurk in the corner with you til we both drink enough wine to be brave grin

7 years I've been here.. hardly anyone knows me and every time I plan to come to a meet up something else crops up and I miss it.. I'm determined this time!

ScreamingManAndGoryOn Sat 13-Oct-12 20:33:28

I'll come. Not made it to a big meet up before but can make the effort this time.

Am I right in thinking that everyone is staying over at Frank's house grin.

I will bring cheese, Frank.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Mon 15-Oct-12 01:41:25

thanks*Frank*thanks

!!!

So, have you lot picked a date and a venue yet?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Mon 15-Oct-12 10:23:23

BIWI was that to celebrate Bastille Day?

I'll never get the time off work that near Christmas. Have a good night everyone and maybe I'll make it next year (hopefully I wont be working by then!)

BigBroomstickBIWI Mon 15-Oct-12 11:48:38

No - it's my Easter name!
