Hi,
I;ve only found Mumsnet 4 days ago - I think it's amazing and have so enjoyed reading/contributing to the converdations. Have 2Dds (6 & 2)- is there anyone in Northants who would like to meet up?

Sorry, I should have told you a bit more about me rather than just responding with another question.....

I live in Towcester, have a ds who is 9 and a dd who is 6. I work full time in Milton Keynes.

Welcome to Mumsnet by the way.

Not too far away - I'm in Warwickshire, but work some days in Milton Keynes, so I'm travelling through Northants quite a lot.

GillW - we probably follow each other down the A5 !! or do you use the M1?

Report
GillW · 23/05/2003 13:21

M1 unless I know in advance that there are problems with it - there's not a lot to choose between them in time/distance, but I work much closer to the M1 than to the A5.

Are you in MK today? M1 a nightmare northbound between Junction 14 & 13 - I can see M1 from my office and things don't seem to be moving too quick!!

Tend to only get chance to have a look at Mumsnet from work - I work in client care in a large IT Company - a bit mundane but it pays the bills and I can leave work at work if you know what I mean. I don't have to travel much either which is ideal.
My two used to go to nursery in Blisworth before they started school so I used to get on the M1 at junction 15 - passing the end of your road!! How long have you lived there?

GillW · 27/05/2003 12:48

Jaybee - I was starting to think from the description (same line of business) that we might be in the same office - but then realised that if you can see the bit of the M1 between 14 and 13 we can't be. You can't be very far away from us though.

My office is on the hill overlooking Kingston Tesco, BO garage and M1 in the distance - address is officially Wavendon though.

Report
iota · 27/05/2003 13:28

BO garage?

Report
Jaybee · 27/05/2003 13:29

Sorry - that should be BP garage!!!!

Report
iota · 27/05/2003 13:30

I'm in MK too - just off to the gym now, so will be passing by

Report
GillW · 27/05/2003 13:38

I must have brushed shoulders with you in Tesco Kingston or the BP garage then! I'm just the other side of the turning for the M1 J14. (Or at least I am the days I'm there - today I'm in London.)

omigod, Gillw - where do you stand in the great eating in supermarkets debate? we could be snarling at one another

Jaybee · 27/05/2003 13:42

GillW - Are you in one of the units behind Tescos? Mumsnet meet ups in Tesco!! That would be when a Mumsnetter pin badge would be an excellent idea!! Iota - do you live in MK?

Report
iota · 27/05/2003 13:44

yes - must dash catch you later

GillW · 27/05/2003 15:50

Not quite that close to Tesco's - I'm in walking distance of the new(ish) Harvester though if you fancy somewhere a little more congenial than Tesco's cafe for a meetup sometime.

Report
iota · 27/05/2003 20:02

Tesco's cafe - what a salubriuous place that is - I think MK can offer slightly better than that.

GillW what's the new Harvester like?

Report
GillW · 27/05/2003 21:08

iota - The harvester's quite good if you like salads. They have a menu which includes a bowl of help-yourself salad at lunchtime, which compares quite well for value (and very well for quality) to our office canteen! Not sure that I'd make the effort to go there if it wasn't just about next door though, as it's a bit "modern pub/restaurant"-ish. (That's probably just personal bias though, as I find most of MK a bit like that compared to where I live which is a much more historic place).

Report
iota · 27/05/2003 21:23

Tut Tut GillW - don't knock MK, I live there

Report
GillW · 27/05/2003 22:44

Nothing wrong with MK (actually lots, like the redways system, which I think is very good) - but you could hardly claim it was well endowed with historic architecture could you?

Don't really think you can expect historic architecture in a new town but there are some lovely olde worlde pubs tucked away in the original villages. I think MK is a great place to work - personally opted to live away from it as I like to be able to have the option to walk wherever I need at the weekend. Public Transport is useless though.

Report
Helenpad · 28/05/2003 10:35

Jaybee - lived there 3 years.Probably passed each other in que to J15.
I think MK's great for shopping and wish I worked there..I work in Wellingborough ( don't worry if you've never been - you've not missed anything. They still have half day closing!!)

What are you all up to today - impressed to hear iota is off to the gym - mmm that's what I should be doing

Been to Wellingborough a few times when ds has played rugby there, also pass along the dual carriageway quite regularly as my parents live in Peterborough. Where did you live before Quinton?
