Hi ive recently moved to crouch end in north london with my partner and 22 mth old daugher. i have attended a few mother and toddler groups but find that most people tend to stick to their own little groups and are not particularly friendly. So if there is anyone out there who can help please let me know as im desparate for adult converstation.

Hi Gella. I've left you a message on the other thread, but if you feel like a chat, get in touch through here and we'll meet up whenever you like! I'm at home full time with ds aged 6 months. We've met a few new people, but also had a bad mother and toddler experience!!!

hello gella, i am in a very similar boat to yourself. if you want to chat to me that would be great. I moved to london my self about 2 years ago and have found it very difficult making friends. i have a little boy aged 2. we could meet up anytime or chat on here if you like.

Gella (and anyone else!)- I'm in N London too and have a ds of 16 months (also have a dd of 6). Most of the friends I made with dd had their 2nd ones years ago and so ds doesn't really have any friends his own age. SO, I'd love to meet up sometime (ds is a very sociable little soul, as am I)
I've been to a couple of meet-ups which were lovely and would love to do it again.

Hi gella,

I'm in North London too, with an almost 1 year old dd. Would love to chat sometime, or meet up (but I am without a car).

Posey, whereabouts are you, exactly?

Hi Maomao and Posey.... what part of north london do you live in?

Hi gella,

I'm in Hampstead, with a 12 month old. Crouch End is lovely --- when we visited, it seemed like there was lots to do with babies!

Davros is about too, somewhere. She lives nearby, in Belsize.

Good that's not far we have to arrange to meet up. Are you coming to the meet at muswell hill?

No, I don't think so. I'm limited in that I haven't got a car. (Okay, well, I'm sure I'm limited in other ways too, but...!) I would hitch a ride with Davros, if she's going, but I think she said she can't make it.

I'm in Islington. Have a car so quite mobile. Am only limited by school times (always have to be around at 3:15 for chucking out time)

Look forward to meeting some or all of you sometime soon. If it ever stops raining, we could do an outside meet-up

I also drive, although i wont be driving to Muswell Hill because of parking i will have to take the bus.

Like Posey says when the weather get's better we should do an outside meet or even better an evening meet without any kids or partners just us ladies.

Have you been to Art Experience? It is a drop in art class. It is 4 pounds per session and the woman who run it are really great, it has been my saving grace since I moved here in November(to Crouch End I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old))They also have coffee, and cake to buy. I really love it. It is Tuesday and Thursday from 10-12. They also have art classes for older kids.

I don't think they have a minimum age, at home in the US I started both my girls at 18 months. I would give it a go, it is a drop in class so you don't have to commit to more then one. It is basically a place to get very messy without having to clean up. Like last week we glued pasta and lentils to paper. There are different stations set up, an easal with paint and then other things like play dough(homemade) or else tissue paper and glue or marking pens. I just think Liz and Annie are really great. I was quite lonely when I first moved here and I knew if I went to art class I would see a friendly face and have a nice chat. And a good cup of coffee. Liz knows a lot about the area schools as she used to be a nursery nurse. I haven't met many other mums around here either by going to playgroups, but I know about quite a few playgroups if you want to try some more out. It seems that people really get to know other people when there kids are younger. I have made quite a few friends at my daughter's school but most of them have a 6 year old and then an older child, not a 3 year old like my younger one. I am going on Tuesday to the lunch meet up. Maybe we can have a chat then and exchange notes. There is a drop in music class, and then I just read that Jackson's lane has a drop in too. Tons of stuff to do, maybe if we gang together we won't feel so left out! I will be at the art experince tomorrow if you feel like going...

Gella

You wrote ages ago so maybe you won't get this but hope I can join any meet-up arranged for North London and perhaps see you there. What you said about mother/toddler groups really struck a cord. I've found the ones I've been too have been really cliquey. Maybe we should start a group for mums who don't like the existing groups out there!!

Yeah, come along Gella... your dd was so sweet and placid last time! I dont believe she could be anything else.... So, you still didn't find a good group to go to? Neither have we, but we're going to sign language once a week, and its excellent!

alamel · 24/05/2004 22:16

ok, so Gella & Ixel are we on for 3pm this Wednesday at Pickles (cafe next to Fagins Toys which seems very child friendly)? Alas, can't promise sweet and placid child on this side but look forward to picking up tips!!

Ixel · 24/05/2004 22:21

yep, we're on (she says, sounding as if she can answer for Gella too!). Lets try and stick to the other thread only? Its getting too complicated!!
