Would anyone like a feminist meet-up?

Following on from this thread (not suggesting you wouldn't be welcome if you weren't on it!): www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2122564-MNHQ-transphobia-guidelines-part-2?

I'd love to meet some of you and I get the impression some of you would like to meet up too, so how about it? And if this is a good idea, where works?

Can I come and lurk and be impressed by you all like I do on here? Grin

That's my plan, doctor. Smile

Longtime lurker, I will watch you guys from a few tables away.

That'd be nice.

I'd be up for that.

Awesome. Smile

So whereabouts/whenabouts works for people?

I'm in Oxford, so can get to London or Birmingham with relative ease; further north is a bit of a pain but I'm flexible.

It's funny, I generally don't classify myself as a feminist but it seems like these threads might finally politicise me.

I haven't posted at all on FWR but I read a few threads and I've been transfixed by the transphobia discussions. (my name is Crew & I'm a huge lurker)

I would be another who is interested in a meet-up, because I'm energised by the discussion, but can't honestly say what I could add to the discussion.

I could travel between Birmingham and London (in Cardiff).

I would absolutely love to come.

And would love to meet lurkers as much as the people whose names I recognise.

Much as I'd like it to happen in York, I can get to London occasionally.

I was thinking through all the recent threads that I'd really like to meet up irl with the MN feminists. The next few months are really really busy for me though, and I also don't live anywhere near London, so I don't expect I'll be able to do a meet up easily any time soon. But if you could keep me posted on what date you agree, I will keep it in mind and if things change I'll see if I can make it.

Oh yes yes yes! I would love to have actual feminist conversation with actual feminists face to face over a pint rather than over 'tinterweb. London best for me. And after 3 October.

I would love to - however I would probably just lurk and listen in fear of exposing my extreme ignorance (although I'd stand my round Wink) London or North West is good for me.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/07/2014 16:13

Ooh, this all sounds good. Smile

Sorry to hear you're busy, fair.

I'd kinda like to see people before October, so maybe we really need two meet-ups, an early and a late one? Or am I hopelessly ignorant and are the next two months completely out for everyone because of school holidays?

Oh, I wish! But I'm in Florida. I had two long holidays in the UK in the last three years so travel budget is exhausted. Maybe in 2016? Or y'all could come to Florida? Smile

That would be so interesting! I'm near Birmingham but could make London. Never been to a MN meet up, erm, what actually happens at them...?

I'd love to :-) I'm near London.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/07/2014 16:27

Oh, bollocks, I'd have loved to meet you, scone. 2016 would be nice, though.

scarlet - erm, I dunno really, the few I've been to we mostly sat in a pub with a few glasses of wine and had a good natter. It's just nice to put names to faces really.

Of course, it is possible we will instead manage to debate the future of modern feminism with such grace and style the entire world will be set to rights, but my money's on the glasses of wine and the natter. Grin

Fair point, that would be extremely sensible!

I apologise for the MNer you met - my memory is she was exhausted from conferences and you nobly scooped her up and deposited her where she needed to be with a nice chat in the middle Smile

But yes, if people are up for FB I'll set up a group, and PM me for the name. If you're not on FB I'll just do it by PM, but obviously it is rather easier to do the FB group for most people because it saves sending a zillion messages.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm in London too. And I'm on FB so that would work for me.

Report
AnnieLobeseder · 03/07/2014 16:40

Well, if it is to be earlier rather than later, then as early as possible, while I'm still under the happy illusion that I have lots of time still and can afford a day off, before all the last-minute panic sets in and I adopt total hermit status.
