Brighton Meet in May

(158 Posts)

Who's up for? What date? Where to go?

Saturday's are: 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th.

18th suits me best and my birthday is the 20th and I want to get drunk

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Apr-13 12:48:47

Good point MABS, think you're right. So we need somewhere large and ground floor. I guess a pub would be less likely to want us out quickly, looked at King and Queen but it's very sport/tv orientated.
El Mexicano sounds good but will only take booking for up to 14 on a Saturday which might be OK, and they want £50 deposit refundable from the bill.
Is Donatello big enough, I can't remember?

PestoSwimissimos Wed 10-Apr-13 12:53:05

Before you lot ask, I won't be able to come to this as it's DD1's birthday that day. Sorry though coz I will really be in need of a drink meet-up by then (DH passed away on Monday) sad sad sad

PestoSwimissimos Wed 10-Apr-13 12:55:03

And it'll be her 16th and it would have been DH's birthday today - instead I'm off to register his death this afternoon <<wobbles>>

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Apr-13 13:05:54

Oh Pesto, so,so sorry.
I hope DD1 can enjoy her birthday.
I don't know your story and don't really know what to say.
Sorry seems woefully inadequate.
sad

MABS Wed 10-Apr-13 16:52:03

I know we will all be thinking of Pesto and raise a glass to her that day. It is terribly sad and I have been in text contact with her and will make sure she knows we will do anything we can to help.

Donatello is very big, sure they could accommodate us. Also like El Mexicana and La Tasca nearby. All Bar One also pretty easy time wise. x

melodyangel Wed 10-Apr-13 17:19:09

So how drunk do you all get? I don't drink and am rather dull and boring shy.

MABS I hope your DS is feeling better. Know of you from UCAS threads.

Thoughts are with you Pesto and family.

Sunnywithshowers Wed 10-Apr-13 17:25:21

I'm so sorry Pesto xxx

Mabs, El Mexicana is fairly strict on drinking - they will refuse to serve alcohol if people in a group are inebriated.

Melody, I've never been to a MN meet up so I have no idea about levels of drunkenness smile

MABS Wed 10-Apr-13 17:43:14

some drive so no pressure to drink. I have just txt Pesto to send her all your love, she said thank you xx

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Apr-13 17:50:20

There was at least one non-drinker last time. I would say we were jolly rather than drunk, although I don't know what the hard core got up to after I left!
Glad to hear you're in touch with Pesto.

Pesto: So sorry to hear that sad

If anybody knows local MNetters, please let them know about the meet or message me their names and I'll send out a mass mail this weekend.

I cocked up when organising the last one and was contacting people from all over the country as I confused threads and I still don't now half of the locals MN names so managed to miss those off too hmm I will be digging out old threads to message people too smile

How many turned up to the last meet? With 14 we might be okay? The deposit is a bitch though!

As MABs said, no pressure to drink, I didn't drink until we got to the second venue last time I went and was not so unwillingly convinced into a few glasses of wine and a couple of expensive cheeseboards! I'll be drinking a bit, it's my birthday the Monday after and I want to celebrate this year! But as BBB said it's generally a jolly atmosphere smile

I'm happy with anything food-wise as long as there is veggie stuff and preferably gluten free stuff available, but I'll eat gluten if I have too smile

MABS Wed 10-Apr-13 18:12:35

i will txt out tomorrow x

Thank you MABs, I should grab a list of MN names from you at some point for this kind of thing! I had one for the last meet, fuck knows what I've done with it but that didn't have a huge amount of the MNetters I've met on it as I have forgotten a lot of the MN Names and the RL ones blush

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Wed 10-Apr-13 19:00:57

Pixie this isn't a job y'know, you're just organising us all because you're lovely. Don't be blush. Anyway I think I helped with the confusion last time.
I'm happy to pop down with the deposit if everyone decides on El Mexicano, but Donatello might be better for special diets. And numbers if that cat gets her thumb out her bum and ropes in a few far-flungers!

I've just made a list of locals who posted on the Feb and Dec meet threads and have 30 shock

BBB - I know, I feel bad for forgetting half of the locals last time though blush/grin And I enjoy a good MN Meet wink I missed the last one so have to make it up, DP is positively encouraging it this time, I think he may need a break from my moaning or something hmm

I've never been to El Mexicano or Donatello, I just like good food so am up for anything others like, even the good old chilli pickle smile

PestoSwimissimos Wed 10-Apr-13 21:18:18

Thank you all for your wishes xxx

char1eston Wed 10-Apr-13 22:15:09

Really sorry to hear about your dh, pesto x

I am upduffed so if I can make the chosen date will be a non-drinker

burlmouse403 Thu 11-Apr-13 13:02:52

I'd be keen to join this meet up as a newbie if that's ok!?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Thu 11-Apr-13 17:07:21

Helish Thu 11-Apr-13 18:23:24

Afternoon all, having had to miss the last meet-up it looks like I'll be able to make this one. An afternoon of chat and drinking would be very welcome at the moment smile

RnB Thu 11-Apr-13 19:57:06
