Anyone fancy a Cheltenham meet-up?

Just been talking to a few MNers today about a meetup (you know who you are!). Would anyone fancy a few drinks and a meal one night in Cheltenham, and afterwards dancing round our handbags in the Prom Club?

(I am joking about the Prom Club Grin)

Yes I'm in Grin Any dates yet, or can I suggest 22/23rd Feb for starters?

I warn you all, I haven't been out in public for a while...

Yes - 22/23rd would be fine for me. Might be a bit soon for some but hopefully we should be able to sort it.

I am complete lightweight fox - I stopped drinking because of illness for nearly a year - now I get pickled on a couple of glasses!

Oh go on then!! But I am one if those that would find that too soon sorry as I need to get dh off work or sitters.
Prom club is closed btw but there are some okay bars open late.
We could go to the beehive where me n dolly went ny day. The staff hate us there because we tried to turn up the music. We wrote them a nice letter but they rejected it so we rang them from the garden to tell them they were rude!!
Sure you still want me to come Blush

I am a lightweight too when it comes to late bars, I'll turn up early, down four pints in quick succession and have to go home Blush

Any date is fine with me, I only selfishly suggested then because I'm on an alternate weekend thing with ds, but can start arranging a babysitter. That gives us 2/3rd March or 9/10?

Ledkr, I've just discovered there are two Beehives Grin You'll have to tell me which in case I end up at the wrong one. I hope the garden is heated.

Oooh, I could do the 9/10th of March if you were doing it then.....

Having a dirty weekend away with DH on the 2nd/3rd (by definition will very much be not dirty as we will end up eating too much, getting drunk on 2 glasses of wine and both be unconscious asleep by 10pm).

What about going to Thai Emerald? the food is always good.

I'm in obviously!

Oh ledkr you're such a lightweight Grin

I may be able to do the 22/23 but more notice would be better.

OBVIOUSLY dolly

9 or 10 March might be better then as it will be more notice for people to arrange things. I can't do 2 or 3 Mar as it's my birthday and dd is taking me to Le Gavroche. And paying!

Is the Beehive down the road from thr Retreat? I think that's what it's called, I can only think if that one or the little pub in Prestbury.

Will definitely turn up I promise!

I'd have gone to Prestbury and sat with the old blokes. Must be the other.

9/10 good for me, it sounds as if both Pat and GetOrf have good weekends planned for the week before Smile

9/10 is good for me. I'm already going out on the 1st and we have visitors the 22/23rd.

I am happy with drinks and meal. Probably won't go on as I'm old and boring...

Oh yes not race week I'm already out much if the week.
When dolly speaks of me she kindly leaves out the fact that I normally spend all day in bed the next day whilst dh visits with iced water and a raised eyebrow.

That made me laugh about you turning the music up. Good on you for going out new years day, I spent the whole of that day covered in blankets eating the last of the christmas stollen.

I had NO IDEA that the Prom Club had shut. That place was such a horrible meat market. Mind you the last time I went to a club (Subtone) was 4 christmases ago.

I don't think that weekend is race week is it (is gold cup week the end of March, can't remember).

Race week starts the 12th.

Last time I went out on gold cup day the pubs were full of strippers Hmm

Yes it's full of strippers. Makes me sick that apparently men can't enjoy the races and then the town without some naked girls.
Lots of prostitutes as well. In good at avoiding it all but the atmosphere is great. Best days for me are a day in town having some bets and drinks. A bit of lunch then home before town fills up.
Great fun last year staggering into Superdrug for nasal spray in heels and stinking of wine. We even saw one of the ds " oh hello hello my son" ds hurried past collar up. We are patsy and Eddie. Subtone is still good actually and I can get us in free should we decide to go but I'm happy with meal and drinks also.
Ill come back with dates.

Lol at you speaking to your son whilst in Superdrug for nasal spray pissed Grin

XP is related to one of the DJs in Subtone so we used to get in free. It would be a laugh to go there again but equally just as happy with meal and drinks.

Which one? Yes in always up for whatever. 21 club is dollys favourite so we could try there too. Do you need to stay over? I've got a spare room.

Mark C (don't want to put his full name) - related by marriage.

I rememeber when I first went to the 21 Club - it's so small I thought it was like someone's sitting room!

That's a lovely offer - I will see what I need to do with DD that weekend (most Sundays have to go to Oxford with her, thankfully she can drive now so I don't have to worry about being over the limit though). So I will let you know when we agree a date - thanks!

The prom was taken over by Alex Clarke (letting agent) and he changed it so it was awful. Plastic red sofas and loud techno music and cheap cocktails. Couldn't last

I only like the 21 if its quiet, happy to go anywhere really.

The prom club made me laugh - full of 50 year olds doing that sneaky dance to get close to 20 something girls.

I mentioned the Prom club to DH (a born and bred cheltonian) last night and he snorted his tea everywhere.

I like subtone, last time I went with some friends one fell asleep in the downstairs bar, so embarrassing!

I hate to say it but the last few good nights out I have had have been in..........Gloucester. I know, shocking isn't it! Last friday had a really good meal at Blossoms chinese near The Quays, all-you-can eat but table service with freshly cooked dishes instead of stuff thats been marinading in its own MSG juices for hours on the hotplate.

Oh, that didn't work, wanted to say 'Gloucester' in Italics, now it just looks like its got ears Blush
