BBC Radio 5Live media request: parents helping with homework

Hello,

We've had a request from Benedict Garman, a journalist with BBC Radio 5Live's 'Drive' programme.

For this evening's programme, Benedict is focusing on claims made in a recent study that children whose parents help them to do homework are likely to do worse at school. The study's authors found “that parental help with homework is negatively associated with age 11 test scores: in other words, children whose parents help frequently with homework have lower test scores, and also make poorer progress between ages five and 11.”

Benedict is interested in hearing from a parent with strong views on this finding, one way or the other. Whether you're extremely proactive with your children's homework and are sceptical of the study, or agree with it -- perhaps with anecdotal evidence to back it up -- please feel free to get in touch with Benedict at benedict.garman@bbc.co.uk or by calling 0161 3356503, as soon as possible.

We at MNHQ don't have any further details about this and Benedict won't necessarily be monitoring the thread, so if you have any questions please contact the journalist directly.

Thanks,
MNHQ
