Have you used psychotropic medication and had a child in the last five years? If so, we would like to speak to you.

When women with a severe mental illness want to start a family, or find that they are pregnant, they may have to make decisions about whether to keep using medication, change it or stop it altogether. This can be a difficult decision. We want to find out more about how women decide what they want to do and what could have helped them to make that decision.

We are a group of researchers from The McPin Foundation and University College London. We want to interview twelve women who have faced this decision. The interviews will be carried out by women who use psychotropic medication themselves.

If you can answer ‘yes’ to all of these questions then we would like to interview you.
•Have you had a child in the last 5 years?
•Do you have a diagnosis of a psychotic illness (e.g. schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, perinatal psychosis, depression with psychosis or borderline personality disorder)?
•Had you used or been prescribed anti-psychotics or mood-stabilisers for your mental health within the year before you got pregnant?
•Do you live within 1 hour’s travel of York, Hull or London?

If you’re not sure about any of these, give us a call and we can talk to you about it.

If you choose to take part, we will arrange a time and place that suits you. We will also give you a £10 voucher to thank you for giving up your time to talk to us.

If you would like to find out more, or think you would like to be interviewed for this research study, please call 020 7922 7876 or email paulinas@mcpin.org. Visit our website to download an information sheet: McPin
