I am a reporter at BBC News.

I wanted to know if any of you pay your parents to look after your children so you can work?

If you do how much do you pay them and please send me your email address.

Thanks
Helena

Hello everyone,

We're going to move this to our media request topic in a moment.

janek Mon 25-Feb-13 15:38:42

Ha, cross posts, will have look!

janek Mon 25-Feb-13 15:03:06

You couldn't find me a link could you? I had a quick look at the homepage, but couldn't see where to go from there. Tia.

Sorry I can't link from my phone. Look at OFSTED registration not required leaflet and number 3 states that you do not have to register if you are caring for a relative.

It think the requirement for relatives to register was changed after the last election.

The NCMA state on their website that blood relatives do not have to register as childminders.

janek Mon 25-Feb-13 14:56:34

Are you sure that's true snooty fox? Be good if it were, but i don't think it is.

Flisspaps Mon 25-Feb-13 14:41:25

snooty I am very pleased to be proved wrong (you'd think I'd know my arse from my elbow, what with actually being a registered CM) wink

But still, the post is in the wrong section grin

thesnootyfox Mon 25-Feb-13 14:21:21

Close relatives are exempt from registering with OFSTED. I know loads of people who pay grandparents and Aunts to look after their children and none of them are registered.

Hi your email doesn't seem to work

Flisspaps Mon 25-Feb-13 14:07:57

I've reported your post so MNHQ can helpfully guide you to the right spot.

Anyone paying a relative, who is not Ofsted registered, for childcare (up to age 5) in their home (the relative's) for more than 2 hours is breaking the law, as per Ofsted's rules on childminding - worth bearing in mind.

"please send me your email address".

Oh yes, I'll get right on that.

hmm

HelenaLee Mon 25-Feb-13 14:06:36

Hi sorry yes you are right. I've not used the site before. Where would I find that section?

Patchouli Mon 25-Feb-13 14:03:51
