Gender stereotypes Channel 4 film: expectant parents wanted

(1 Post)

Are you a parent who is curious or concerned about the influence of gender stereotypes on your children? Are you worried about the potential impact of strict 'pink' and 'blue' labels, and other gender-based expectations from family and friends? Do you want to see a new way of thinking evolve that will help increase opportunities for our children? Or are you totally hooked on pink for your baby girl or 'boysy' blue for your boy?

Mumsnet has hosted some fascinating discussion threads about gender stereotypes and toys, which many of you contributed to. At the end of 2011, I campaigned for Hamleys toyshop to scrap its gender-specific signs and have since set up gender stereotype awareness lessons in schools, which I wrote about for Mumsnet.

Now I am looking to take this one step further with a new and exciting project:
I'm looking for a few volunteers to take part: a couple or someone expecting a baby this year.

As with my previous project there will be filming involved (subject to further discussions and the necessary consents)for a TV documentary . We anticipate pioneering and educational results that will contribute to a wider understanding of the gender pressures that affect our children and their futures.
