Unwanted thoughts???? Postnatal Depression/Anxiety

Hi all, and thank you in advance for your interest in my research.

My name is Sarah and I am currently training as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Nottingham. I am running this project as part of my doctoral training and because it is something that I am passionate about.

Unwanted thoughts are NORMAL after giving birth. Lots of women experience thoughts about their child being harmed either accidently or intentionally. These thoughts are even more common when women are depressed and can be experienced either as words or images. These thoughts do not mean that people are likely to harm their child. However, as these thoughts can be incredibly upsetting, and leave women doubting themselves as a Mum, people tend not to talk about them.

This research has been set up, with the help of charities and children's centres in the Nottinghamshire area, to raise awareness of unwanted thoughts. Support for postnatal depression and anxiety is available, and does not mean that you have failed in any way.

To be able to take part you must: have given birth within the last year, have experienced unwanted thoughts (you might still be experiencing them), and be English speaking.

Hi everyone, I have a second request for help...

Thanks to all the Mums who have contacted me about taking part in the project so far. However, I'm still looking for lots more women with a child under one to take part. In addition to volunteers I'm wondering whether anyone can give me any feedback about how to advertise the project. Do you think there might be anything specific that might be putting Mums off taking part? Would more information be helpful etc?

Please get in touch, I really appreciate your help

Thank you

Hi all,
Just a polite reminder that my perinatal research project is still open and that I am looking for lots more Mums to take part.
It's completely up to you whether you want to fill in the questionnaires either online or via postal survey. If you take part online you can answer completely anonymously and don't need to give your name or contact details if you don't want to.
The questionnaires should take about 40 minutes- 1 hour to fill in, and you can always save your answers as you go and come back to them when you have more time.

If you have any questions please send me an email: lwxsec@nottingham.ac.uk, I will get back to you as quick as I can.

Please see the message above for a quick link to the online version of the questionnaires.

Take care

Sarah

smile Thank you to everyone who has contacted me about taking part in this project.

Please can I just remind everyone that at the moment I am only asking women who have given birth within the past year to take part.
If this means you cannot complete the questionnaires, I would still be interested to hear from you about your experiences of unwanted thoughts, and /or postnatal depression and anxiety.

Sarah
