Hello Mumsnet smile

I am a final year Speech and Language Therapy student from De Montfort University, Leicester, and I am currently conducting my final year research project. The purpose of the study is to investigate the experiences of parents of children who stammer in order to examine the impact that stammering may have on their lives. It is known that various emotions are experienced by people who stammer, however very little is known about the emotional impact on the parents and other family members of a child who stammers. Findings from the study will hopefully increase our knowledge and understanding of the impact on parents and other family members and in turn enable Speech and Language Therapists to better support the whole family during the treatment process.

So if you have a child aged 6-16 years old who stammers, or wish to find out more about the study, please click on the link below:

The link will direct you to a page on the British Stammering Association website which contains links to an information sheet and the short online questionnaire. I suggest that you read the information sheet before completing the questionnaire as it will provide you with further information about the study and what will be done with the information you provide. The questionnaire is entirely confidential and only contains 15 questions so it shouldn't take you too long to complete!

Please share this link with any friends or family who also have a child aged 6-16 years old who stammers, the more responses I can collect, the better we will be able to understand the experiences of you as parents of a child who stammers. Should you require any further information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at iona.caminada@myemail.dmu.ac.uk.

Thank-you for your time smile

Iona
