Has your child recently been involved in or seen a very frightening or traumatic event?
Is your child aged 8-17 years old?
Does your child live in the East of England?

If you have said yes to all of the above, and you are worried about your child, then we may be able to help.

Sometimes children and teenagers can develop anxious feelings after being involved in something very frightening, for example a traffic accident or an assault. These feelings might include:

● Nightmares ● Trouble concentrating ● Feeling irritable ● Problems sleeping
● Memories of the event popping into mind ● Not enjoying things ● Avoiding certain places

We are team of psychologists working at the Medical Research Council in Cambridge on a study called the Acute Stress Programme for Children and Teenagers (ASPECTS). We want to see if a psychological programme called “cognitive behavioural therapy” can help young people soon after they have been involved in a frightening event. The treatment we are testing does not involve drugs.
