Dear Parent,

What this Mumsnet feed is for:

Bristol Cathedral Choir School (BCCS) is currently collecting information from Bristol-based parents to measure support for a new primary school. In February 2012, they will be submitting their application to the Department for Education to open the new primary school under the Free Schools programme in September 2013. As the deadline for the application is in February, BCCS now urgently need your help and support on their application by 22nd February.

The details of the primary free school:

Bristol Cathedral Choir School (BCCS) is an Academy School in Bristol for 11-18 year olds and has consistently been Bristol’s most over-subscribed school since it was established as an Academy in 2008. BCCS is now applying to open a primary section. Their Trustees wish to offer an outstanding all-through Academy experience in the heart of Bristol for children aged 4-18. The new Cathedral Primary School will be attached to the existing 11-18 Music Specialist Academy, BCCS.

The Cathedral Primary School will benefit from the Academy’s specialism in both Music and Mathematics, with specialist teaching in these subjects ensuring that the primary students have opportunities for stretch and challenge. There are 59 choir schools in the UK and Bristol is currently the only one not providing opportunities for primary-aged children. The Primary Cathedral Free School will develop the Cathedral Choristers and support a world-class choir in the heart of Bristol. The curriculum will be supportive of the needs of professional choristers and aspiring musicians whilst providing a broad and balanced education. Both the senior and primary school will ensure that regular dissemination of good practice occurs within subjects, across a range of curriculum areas and across the primary and secondary phases.

What we would like you to do:

We would be extremely grateful if you would be able to do some or all of the following:

a) Attend a public meeting at 4p.m. on Thursday 9th February to put forward your opinion on the application, find out more information and provide any support. The venue for the meeting is: The Cresswell Centre, Bristol Cathedral Choir School, College Square, Bristol, BS1 5TS.

b) Please fill in a survey form to register your support, particularly if you live in or near Bristol and have children who will be of primary school age (from Reception to Year 1) in September 2013 and September 2014. This will be crucial to the application process, so please encourage your friends and neighbours to register their interest too. The web link for the survey is: http://www.bccs.bristol.sch.uk/Home/Primary-Free-School/Support-our-Application

c) Feedback your comments to us via this feed on Mumsnet
