new speech sounds app for kids - feedback appreciated

Hi
I am a speech therapist and have just released a new iPhone/iPad app for kids learning their speech sounds. Its designed for any child learning to talk as much as for kids getting help. I would like people to take a look at it and tell me what they think! I am hoping to make more of these practise style apps for speech and voice and would like to make them user friendly, relevant and appealing to people.
Bigmouth has been used 'on paper' since 1994 and is known to speech therapists. I wanted to make this for parents and carers to give kids funpractise at home etc. We all know how tedious homework can get sometimes!
Available on the App Store.

thanks very much for any help you can give me!!

I am a bit worried no-one reads these posts!

D0G Mon 23-Jan-12 20:53:48

I'll have a look now, have a ds who is 5 with significant speech delay and probably selective Mutism. Will report back.

can you make it available for android?

Firawla Mon 23-Jan-12 21:10:41

can you give some more info about it? i am interested for my 2 yr old who is behind in his speech but would like more info before buying it as its 4.99 cant see any free version to check it out before buying?

D0G Mon 23-Jan-12 21:15:23

Yes more info would be good I didn't expect it to be 4.99.

AndiMac Mon 23-Jan-12 21:18:45

What Firawla said. If it's a good app, £4.99 is fine, but it would be good to know more about it first, as that's rather expensive as iPad apps go.

Some developers give a few people the app for free, in return for a review. Just saying...

What AndiMac said. Would happily review for you having been down the verbal dyspraxia therapy route with DD#1 but not if it is going to cost me to do so.

Happy to review but would NEVER pay £4.99. Ever. HTH.

AndiMac Mon 23-Jan-12 21:35:37

Well I would probably pay it, but only if there was a load of reviews saying how good it was and I thought it would be useful. As I said, in terms of iPad apps it's a lot, but in terms of actual money, it's not.

thankyou so much to all of you who took the time to look it up. I appreciate all your comments.
The price was a tricky issue -as its a specialist app its never going to do an 'angry birds' and go nuts so we tried to hit as low as we could with our predicted numbers to break even. I know other SLT apps are £20.
Try before you buy is a good one and i will look into the cost of uploading a small version.
The review piece is quite right - its a trust and value for money scenario. £4.99 is not much if you know its going to help. I am going to ask a few people who I know have purchased it to write something. Impartiality becomes a bit tricky! which is why I thought of asking mumsnet.
I will endeavour to put more info on the website as to how you play and what to expect. www.voxaux.com/bigmouth
Q: at what point does a concerned parent buy an app like this? would you wait for professional advice on a known problem?
Q: does the price put you off buying 'on a whim'? or is it info you need?
Q: if you buy 'educational' apps do you think about speech, or more writing and numbers?
If any of you want to get a copy because it is relevant to you and your ds or dd and you are prepared to give detailed feedback to me then please email me and we can take it further
The app has not yet been out a week so thats why there are no reviews yet.
Bigmouth itself has been used in SLT for yrs but only SLT kids wd know about it.

Thanks again! Norma

would a youtube video help?

nailak Tue 24-Jan-12 13:31:07

A my dd1 4 has speech delay and salt activities are not really working, and hard to do with younger kids around grabbing pics etc. So I would definitely be interested in alternatives.
My dd2 3 has similar issues but salt won't see her until 4 and I would use the app on her without professional advice.

A the price wouldn't put me off. But I would like free trial or lite version.

A. All the apps I have are numeracy and literacy based, only as I have never come across any based on speech sounds.

However I do not have iPhone or iPad, but Android phone. I would definitely purchase if available on Android market.

FoxSocks Tue 24-Jan-12 13:59:03

this is very helpful to me thanx
android is in my plans but i need to see that there is a market for this kind of app as it will cost me again to produce it in Android.
lots of Android around though!

Firawla Tue 24-Jan-12 14:14:50

yes youtube video would be useful thanks, to see and understand what the concept is before buying the app or not

cookcleanerchaufferetc Wed 25-Jan-12 06:34:26

I would be very interested but would want a free trial version or lite version.

FoxSocks Thu 02-Feb-12 13:56:33

OK I have updated my website and have plans to make a youtube video. Thanks!
Again would particularly interested people like to email me directly so I can offer them a 'try it and feedback' deal!

Are you ignoring the people asking if there is an android version on purpose?

StrandedBear Thu 02-Feb-12 16:17:54

Ignore me, didn't see the update about putting it in market blush

Will email foxsocks - my 12 year old is non verbal severely autistic and has just started with a communication device but we do quite a lot of speech sound work with him as well (partly because he enjoys it). If I knew it was good I would definitely pay 4.99 for it (for him) - that's a good price for a SN app.

FoxSocks Thu 02-Feb-12 18:24:10

sorry android people if it wasn't clear - i know youre out there!

FoxSocks Thu 02-Feb-12 21:15:57

thanks to those who have emailed
will sort you out asap

FoxSocks Fri 03-Feb-12 17:07:17

if anyone else would like to participate in feedback trial please email me!

FoxSocks Tue 07-Feb-12 10:59:50

thanks AndiMac!

AndiMac Tue 07-Feb-12 11:31:33

If anyone got a free trial of the app and you like it, I bet FoxSocks would appreciate some good feedback on the app page to encourage others to purchase it.
