Hello! My name is Julia Clark, and I’m a Trainee Counselling Psychologist studying at City University, London. I’m researching what it’s like for parents to have a child go through therapy, and I want to give you the chance to share your experience of this.

If you have had one or more children receive therapy, they were under 16 years of age at the time, and their therapy has now ended, I would like to hear your story.

I think it is important to give all parents the chance to talk about their experience of this, whether it has been negative, positive, or a mixture of both.

This research has been granted ethical approval by City University, and is being clinically supervised.

If you are interested in taking part in this research, or would like further information, please visit http://parentexperience.yolasite.com, or contact me at Julia.Clark.1@city.ac.uk.

Thank you!!

Hello to all the parents!

I am still looking to speak to parents whose child or children have received therapy. I think it is important to give all parents the chance to talk about their experience of this, whether it has been negative, positive, or a mixture of both. I now looking for parents whose child was under 18 at the time of their therapy.

If you would like to share your story, you will have a chance to talk freely, honestly, and openly about your experiences, without judgement. Doing this may help you to understand your experiences better, and allow you to explore what this was like for you as a parent.

If you would like to take part, you can either choose to write about your experience of when your child went for therapy, and send it to me, or you can take part in an interview about this experience.

Thank you smile

does it count if they have gone through therapy several times and the last series is not ended or does it have to be the last forever? how will the information be used?

Hello Cory,

Thank you for your questions, and I'm so sorry for my delayed response!!

If you were interested in taking part, it would be fine that the last series of therapy had not yet ended. The reason I had wanted to speak to parents after their child's therapy had ended was because I had not wanted any parents to feel like they would not be able to speak openly and honestly about their experience, for fear of it affecting their child's therapy in some way.

The information is being collected as part of research for a doctoral thesis. This means that I will look through all of the information that parents give me during interviews, and see if there are any common themes within their experiences, or anything that seems to be shared between different parents's stories. This information will be included in my thesis, but any details will be made completely anonymous so that you can not be identified by anyone who might look at the research.

There is more information on my website if you wanted to take a look: parentexperience.yolasite.com

I would also be more than happy to send you a copy of the information and consent form if you wanted to take a look at the terms that are outlined within it.

If you have any more questions, or would like to take part, please feel free to contact me either on here, through my website, or you can email me: Julia.Clark.1@city.ac.uk

Best wishes,
Julia

I forgot to mention that I hope, by gathering information from parents like yourselves, that I can use your own experiences to make all staff working in children's services more understanding, more aware, and more considerate of what this is like for the parents of the children who they work with.

This will hopefully make the experience of having a child in therapy better, easier, and more positive for all parents, and will help professionals to understand how to improve this experience, and to improve children's services.

Thanks smile
