HELP please I'm invited out this evening for an Indian meal. I'm vegetarian so what would be the lowest carb curries for me to order? Are popadoms and mint sauce ok for starters?

No - poppadoms are not alright! Each one has around 9g carbs - and the mint sauce (and other chutneys you'll have with them) are likely sweetened too.

Best thing is to go for something like a cauliflower/spinach/mushroom curry.

Everything will have butter and ghee but dal is really healthy, any sabji too. Choose rice instead of roti/Chapstick/naan if you wanna cut the carbs and fat. Paneer is very high fat so avoid that. Any sabji (vegetable stew type thing) should be ok

But this is a question about low carb food, kaurtecy. Rice and dahl are both very high in carbs.

Haha I won't be eating rice!! I can have plain veg curry, dansak, kurma, madras, masala or jalfrazi. Biryani is also one of the vegetarian options but I understand that's made with rice in it. Which would be the best there? Thanks

Dansak is made with lentils! I'm low carbing and tend to have a spinach bhaji or cauli bhaji and a non lentil based curry. Mutter paneer should be fine! Yes, avoid biriani.

kissme - you don't seem to know much about low carbing, or what carbs are in various foods!

That's why I was asking for advice biwi! I know the very basic rice, potatoes, pasta, cereal, bread so avoid those in my daily food intake. At home I stick to salads, egg, cheese, few fresh nuts and berries etc as a main staple and haven't eaten out since doing low carb. Just looking for the best option I am going to ask for side salad with my curry and avoid a starter I e decided. I'm thinking veg curry is the best option for me to eat out of all of them according to what I just googled anyway !

Go and have a look at the spreadsheet on the Bootcamp threads - the ongoing one is called something like Final weigh-in. The OP has a link to the spreadsheet, and if you look at the tabs at the bottom, you'll find links to all kind of information about low carbing that will help you.

There are lots of great books too - two I'd recommend are "Escape the Diet Trap" by Dr John Briffa, or "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes. Both easy to read as well.

And I'm starting the next Bootcamp on 16 May, so come and join us!

I suggested rice because it's better than other options (slathered in butter etc etc) but if you really want low card then eat just a sabji. Not paneer as someone suggested Grin

Low carb is high fat, so slathered in butter is good! Grin
