Low-carb diets

Can anyone PLEASE help me keep on the straight and narrow for 5 weeks?!

Right. Have attempted many times now and given up after a day or two.
Now have 5 weeks till holiday.
No clothes that fit and can't afford new.
Look like a beached whale.
Can not face another holiday sweaty and hiding in towels due to flab.

I know low carb works but I give up after a day or so due to sugar addiction /no self control/ tiredness etc.

Will be so upset with myself if I look like this on holiday.

So, plan is this- no exact weight loss aim, just as much as possible.
Drink loads of water every day.
Exercise each day (walking/shred)
Low carb.

If anyone wants to join or support or beat me with a big stick feel free

The aim is to feel comfortable in my own skin and happy with myself and not be a miserable bitch when the camera comes out

Think before you eat. If you get through the first 48/72hrs it's all uphill from there!
If you start craving sugar or feeling tired, eat! Just not sugar Grin

apologies for drive-by posting, but these might help:

tips and tricks for starting/restarting low carbing part I
tips and tricks for starting/restarting low carbing part II

plus, my own suggestions (overlap with some of those in the links) - i do need to pay attention to my own advice! Grin

BACK ON THE WAGON TIPS

  1. have you got all the crap out of the house? (as much as you can - i know it can be tricky with family members (and with leftovers), but maybe you could ask them to forgo the carby stuff for a few days while you get back on track?)

  1. plan your ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE low carb meals for the next few days, breakfast, lunch and supper - you need meals you can look forward to and which make you feel satisfied and indulged, not mediocre ones which get rid of the hunger but don't stop you feeling deprived when the siren call of the carbs gets going

  1. make sure you have low carb snacks available if you need them (you shouldn't physically need them, but as i'm sure you know, they can help you get through the carb cravings)

  1. drink plenty of water (i'm sure you know the drill). helps you feel full apart from all the other benefits

  1. don't try to do too much in terms of exercise while you're combating the carb cravings. if you want to exercise, do, but don't push yourself too hard (i did a 40-min exercise dvd followed by a 5k run the other day and nearly keeled over at the smell of dp making toast)

  1. change your routine a bit if you can. habits (particularly the bastardy carby ones) are quickly formed, so change stuff about a bit

That's the thing. I know I'll be fine today and possibly most of tomorrow but it'll be tomorrow evening and the following day it gets me. Need to prepare and have lots of low carb snacks available! Really really want to do this. So Sad with myself at the minute and I just know it'll help.
I find for me though, I do well for a day or so then we have a bad night and im exhausted and I just can't stop myself. Need some willpower!

Used to smoke before dd and really trying to resist going back to the fags as a coping method.

this is another post that might help

why is low carb harder the second time around

it's actually not so much about low carbing be harder the second time around, as analysing what we have control over in terms of our diet

always easier said than done though.

another thought process with respect to cravings that helps me, is to think, 'is this the first and last opportunity i'm ever going to get to eat this?' given that there is unlikely to be a worldwide (e.g.) brownie shortage any time soon, the answer to this question is usually no. you can eat it at any point in the future. you don't have to have it now

Damn it. Well I'm already over my days carbs. Forgot its total carbs and not just sugar carbs I'm meant to count. Ah well. It could have been a lot worse!! It'll be about 40g today instead of 20 but hey ho. It's done now.
Must remember tomorrow!!

hey Fatty, you're better off than me... I only have 2 weeks until my holiday now. Been low carbing for 2 days and been pretty strict. Tonight I'm having some salty popcorn as a treat though... v small amount.
Sick of cheese and meat and greek yoghurt. But already I notice my energy levels are better and I feel less grumpy around 3/4 o clock.

Good luck tomorrow !

Currently MASSIVELY fighting urge to nip down to shop and have a white magnum - my weakness :(

The little voice in my head keeps saying that it's under 30g, and I only had a salad for lunch and super low carb alpro yoghurt for brekkie.

good to see you're still on the wagon! Well done for missing out on the chips!

I felt like utter poo this morning (day3 carb flu I guess) so I had baked beans as well as bacon and fried veg for breakkie... think it made a bit of difference.

salad nicoise without potatoes for lunch,

pepperami for snack and

chilli mince with greek yoghurt and grated cheese for tea, have to say that was yummy. Also had a small Wine

Been having cream in my tea, plus coconut oil. Quite decadent!!!

Had loads of energy since lunchtime, done loads of jobs and feeling much better :)

Can I double check, it's total carbs we count, not just sugar carbs? Feel like there's nothing out there to eat

to be honest I'm not actually counting carbs... I'm just not eating any wheat, potatoes, rice, grains, sugar, fruit, carby veg etc.
I am eating fat, meat, fish, eggs, salad, cream, berries(in moderation) veg like mushrooms and broccoli etc.
Also a few beans.

Just been having some olives and cheese as a snack. I've been inspired by my sister who has been eating like this for a month and lost 11 pounds.

Struggling this morning. Really really want to eat biscuits. Pretty sure there's nothing 'bad' to eat in the house but not looking just incase. Think DP ate all biscuits last night.
Too tired to do anything to distract myself. Just want to lie on sofa and eat.

I'm thinking about starting this low carb diet, I completely cut out sugar almost a year ago as I was very much addicted to it , I use natural sweetners to make cakes etc so I still get my sweet fix bbut its not addictive and doesnt make me feel sluggish and generally ill. But I've not lost any weight in the past few months so need to step it up and cut back on the carbs I think!
