Need to shake this carbs thing, without it being a huge faff, any tips?

I am a terrible carb fiend and it's really annoying, it just leaves me tired and wanting more. But I haven't really got the patience for rules and weighing and stuff, plus there's the usual juggling of work and small children and DH who's obsessed with bread.

If anyone has any encouraging words of wisdom, inspiration, emergency lunch on the go ideas, and all on a tight shopping budget I'd be really grateful. I don't fancy diabetes but I'm inherently lazy!

Hi - watching with interest as I don't understand the low-carb thing but would love a thumb-nail as all the other threads seem long!

I've just eaten a bowl of cooked chicken with chopped cucumber and spring onion, mixed with mayo

Dd commented that its a sandwich without the bread.... That's how I look at it

You get used to it. I'm full. I won't think about food again now til I next feel ( not when the click says) hunger. That won't be til around seven

There is no other way of eating (or diet if you want to call it that) that means you just aren't hungry for quite long periods of time.. It takes time to get your head round it and if you do it properly there is a day or 2 of feeling crap (carb flu) but once you are into it, it's so easy! Food just doesn't have the same hold over me. But the key is to make sure that you have the right food available to you. And I personally still get craving for crap food (and occasionally give in) but there's something about eating low carb which means I just get straight back into the saddle afterwards whereas with other diets I would just give in!

Come and join us on Bootcamp! It's designed to make life easy. No counting or weighing of anything (unless you want to), and only ten rules to follow.

Latest chat thread is here

We're currently in week 9 of 10, but people are joining us all the time, and we will continue chatting after the ten weeks are up.

If you look at the link in the OP it will take you to the spreadsheet that some of us use to record our weight. On the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet are the rules of Bootcamp.

You're very welcome to join - lots of help and support!

Thanks, especially to BIWI. Unfortunately I struggle to load big threads on my phone. Could this mean I have to say goodbye to Classic view after all these years? shock

I might give it a whirl later. smile

I'm considering going low carb and have started by cutting out bread. I've pretty much got that nailed now, so the next step will be pasta and potatoes, then I'll go the whole hog.
I figure I'm more likely to stick to it if I make incrememntal changes that I have the chance to adapt to.

Here are the rules, without their explanations, which you will find on the spreadsheet:

1. Eat three, proper meals a day

2. Avoid processed food

3. Eat lots of fat

4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food. This is where your carbs should come from, and this is non-negotiable.

5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day. The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink.

7. No alcohol

8. No fruit
Really. Seriously. Honestly. None at all. Zilch. Nada

9. No nuts/seeds

10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

BIWI Tue 25-Jun-13 16:32:34

And the foods that you can't eat (apart from what has been itemised in the rules):

- potatoes
- bread
- pasta
- rice
- sugar
- flour
