Low-carb bootcamp

Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

BIWI · 23/06/2014 07:43

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

I seem to be maintaining well but not really losing this bootcamp. Still trying to work out where I'm going wrong. Last bootcamp I was steadily losing about 0.8lbs per week to total 12lbs total.

My eating must have changed somehow, yet last bootcamp I ate plenty of dairy, choc/nuts/berries at least once per week and was very happy with my rate of loss. I think I'm still doing the same but I've started tracking on mfp to check. I'm keeping up with the water.

One difference is that I spotted all the way through last bootcamp and haven't since it stopped. I'd rather I didn't of course. It can't be that I'm too close to goal weight, I'm 1 stone off a normal BMI and 2 stone away from where I used to be.

On the plus side, I'm not putting on weight and not feeling deprived. But fat for another summer :( I was looking forward to wearing nice clothes.

Morning everyone.

Another 1/2lb on. FFS.

This woe better be leaving me with sparklingly clean & healthy insides because it's doing sod all for weight loss.

Well done to Artibartfast - according to the weight tracker she's lost 32lbs this bootcamp, which is well impressive.

Another 3.6 off this week Grin Smashed through the 190 barrier and am now 188.1lbs. Have lost over a stone on this bootcamp.

So sorry for those of you not having such good results. I realise I am lucky that I can eat dairy with no ill effect. I'm sure when I get down near maintenance weight I will have to curb my portions but for now it's all going well.

Good luck on the scales everyone.

Not much change weight wise but I can definitely see improvements in my arms and general figure, so slow weight loss is just fine with me.

Have got one more night out with work this week, and one tomorrow with my partner and daughter, and then I will be back to fulltime low carbing.

Good luck this week, everyone. May the whoosh fairy make herself known to one and all.

Well, I would have lost 2 lbs but it's only 1 this week as a pound sneaked back on this weekend. Was invited to an impromptu BBQ on Saturday where I did try and make mindful choices but one of the beef kebab things tasted sweet so I knew there must have been sugar there somewhere and I did drink wine. Yesterday we went out for lunch at harvester so it's easy to eat there, I had the grilled chicken and plain salad with butter but agai am convinced that my diet coke wasn't actually the diet one as it tasted very sweet.

Am slightly concerned that small aberrations can see the pounds go back on quickly. I think I'm going to have to watch every morsel that goes in my mouth forever. A very sobering thought.....

Done Guy Smile

I am going to re read the rules. I think I'm sticking to it all but I've only lost 5lbs so think there must be something I'm not doing right.

I'm happy though as my shape has definitely changed, and the weight loss feels permanent. On Slimming World I always felt like I was one meal away from putting it all on again. If I never lost another pound I would still eat this way.

Well, I'm 4lb down this week after not moving for weeks! Grin It pretty much disappeared as soon as I went from being super strict to BCL. I suspect it's the cycling of eating patterns that helps for me.

pingu those small abberations are water, although it's quite depressing to see them. The true weight app is helpful at showing your weight as a trend, might be worth a look?

Congrats to everyone who has lost and Thanks Thanks to those who haven't. Keep on keeping on, as has been said before - what's the alternative?

Morning everyone and 1.2 down for me, chuffedGrin

This beautiful weather is helping as all I want to eat is oily salads and extra water. I did have one perfectly ripe strawberry in my yogurt this morning and it was deeeelish, so weird, nice weird, that I now consider such a small thing such a treat.

CQ well done, it's fab when you get through another barrier isn't it.

tolchok wishing you a visit from the whoosh fairy this weekThanks

Biwi your bbq sounded lovely I'm going to find some vanilla paste today.

Good morning all

Good losses everyone especially SarahBeenys

Thanks Tolchock I changed my name from Artibartfast due to a certain side effect of this WOE

Seri77 - don't be down, you've maintained and you have a clear goal in mind. Well done Smile

I've been constantly thinking and chatting with my other half about where to go to next, how this will and has changed our eating habits and come to a bit of a realisation.
that my initial target was totally about my own personal insecurities, that I hadn't really been able to see past 270lb (from 289) and had set my goal weight as a bit of a pipe dream.
now I’m 257lb I'm on track to make my goal by the end of the 10weeks but looking in the mirror can see this isn’t where I want to be.

This brings up the question of what is a good weight for me, I have no real faith in BMI I think its a bullshit calculation for medics and am not sure where to look?
Ive booked myself in with the GP next week and am going to hassle him to run full bloods to see how I'm doing and have a chat with him but has anyone got any other ideas?

So now I'm going to buckle down and push myself that bit harder and NO MORE SNACKING!

And yet again I get to add : This week I'll be staying on bootcamp

Well, Pisses when people are discussing what they should weigh it always brings to mind my mothers elderly GP. He had no time for new fangled stuff like BMI and when anyone asked what weight they should aim for he always said the same... stand in front of a big mirror and jump up and down. If nothing jiggles that shouldn't then you're about there! LOL He does have a point. Grin

I'm waiting until tomorrow to weigh but not hopeful. Sad

Miffy Grin like it, bit like "never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear" that I remember from my childhood GP! Grin

Over the past 2 weeks I have STS but this means all the holiday weight gain was gone the week after. I regret nothing! And... I start work for definite on Monday!! At last world turning upside down feeling !!

Keep going comrades :)

Pisses - just be prepared, if you go to your GP, for him/her to be dismissive about low carbing. Although the trend is swinging in favour of low carb there are still plenty who will tell you it's a fad/dangerous, etc.

Thanks BIWI, I've got a well trained GP. My intention is more to check out how this has effected me as I need to make sure before I go on. And I'll ask for the results so I can get DW to check them. (she's a bit of a medic type)
But have to say this is the best i've felt in years, I'm stronger than I've been in a long time and as for the running the WOE give me so much more umph

Oh got that t-shirt Biwi! I was asked what I'd been doing to improve my health so much but when I told them they just sneered and said I should be eating a more balanced diet! Unless things have changed drastically your average doc gets virtually no training on nutrition.

Not weighing myself again this week so that I don't sabotage myself if I have stayed the same. Disappointingly I was feeling tres slim yesterday, I had a drink last night and just feel so flabby today. Not helped by the fact that everyone I was out with was so trim. I went from feeling fabulous I myself to like a giant whale.

Well done to everyone with losses.

Hello all - bit of a mixed weekend all in all for me, but I cannot confirm it with the weigh in as my scales had Lo-Batt signal this morning, and I did not have the time to go hunting for a 9-volt. I will weigh in tomorrow, and see how things go.

Well done Pisses - that is fantastic. I am also going back to my GP any day now to get a read on how my bloods are doing. We can compare notes.

SarahBeeny, StuntNun and Roaring - please send the whoosh fairy my way - that sounds fabulous! Good work there to all of you!

Tolchock - I know the feeling, but I have not been as careful in the past few days and that has certainly affected my numbers - although hopefully not too badly. We will see tomorrow. UUUrggghh.

Well done to all the losers and the stsers. Come on everybody, the last stretch is in sight!

That's a scary thought, Spamm - what do we do when we reach the end??!! I'm a bit scared of eating carbs again - don't want to undo the good I've done, and still have a long way to go. And I'm REALLY scared of alcohol now - it has just made me feel bleurgh when I've had any in the last 8 weeks. My friends think I've been abducted by aliens Grin

I guess after 10 weeks of BIWI's stick, we should be able to go it alone and carry on with BC/BCL indefinitely.

Pisses - 'tis you, the mysterious Artibartfast!! I thought that marvellous loser was just a shy lurker who didn't want to chat!! Some stonking numbers on the spreadsheet from you - well done.

GuyMartin - re the spreadsheet - are you trying to enter your numbers on an iPad or tablet? I tried doing mine this morning on my iPad and couldn't input, but it worked fine on the PC. Maybe that's the problem?

Back to the sofa now to see Murray finish off his first match. Ahhhh Wimbledon. The kids have low expectations of any decent cooking for the next fortnight Grin

CQ - I am clear that I plan to just join straight on to the next bootcamp, if BIWI feels she can start again, after all the headaches we have given her.

If not, then I will be begging you all to join a thread to provide each other ongoing support - Or maybe both of those?
