Flying to Orlando next month - is it worth bothering with special socks?

Depends how long your flight is - if transatlantic, yes get the socks. They won't do any harm, but could be beneficial.

I didn't wear them when we flew in August but my legs really ached- not sure if flight socks would have helped this.
Have a fantastic time. I'm very jealous!

also drink water every hour and do the exercises with the legs too. more important to get up and walk around and do the stretches if you can.

not if not medically prescribed. Drink plenty of water, book an aisle seat, get up and walk round every hour, do not drug yourself to sleep.

ps it isn't the plane - it is the sitting still that risks DVT.

Do you have any risk factors for DVT? If so, get the socks.

Otherwise... I'd say the socks won't hurt, so get some if you'd like. But if it's one flight, UK to Miami... I would concentrate on getting up and moving around at least once an hour, doing exercises in your seat and staying hydrated.

The advantage is that you don't end up at arrivals with elephant's feet or a DVT
