New York/Long Island summer holiday

We've not ventured on any long haul holidays post children, but we have found a New York/Long Island holiday we would love to go on.

DD is 9 years (so no problem) and lo will be 22 months.

Would love to hear anyone else's experience of New York in the summer as we have only been in December. I'm most anxious about being on a plane with a wriggly toddler - so any words of wisdom welcome there too.

My cousin lives in LI and we've had a few holidays out there and found it great as a base. Port Washington has a fab beach and there was lots for us to do. We also went to the theme park in NJ which was a bit of a drive but we went to outlets and had a great time x
