Air Transat - anyone used them?

Anyone flown with this company? the flights we are after are $400 cheaper with them than any other company... but I have never heard of them before. Happy to suffer through rubbish service on flight if it will save us that much (4 travelling so potentially $1600 saving versus delta or Virgin which are the next cheapest), but I wouldn't want them to go bust before we fly!

I've heard of them!!

They've been going for quite a while - we flew to Canada with them in 1999 and 2002. Don't think that they are likely to go bust, and if we do decide to go to Canada later this year, that's who we'll be flying with!

Thanks SGM. We will be taking a baby with us and have piles of crap lots of baby equipment so that is a definite downside.

Thanks angelpuss. The reviews on google are OK, nothing bad about them other than the entertainment is a bit rubbish. But for the money we're saving we could buy ourselves an iPad each grin I think we will risk it and pay for some extra baggage allowance.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a direct flight so only(!) 7 hours. DSD has a portable DVD player so can The basinettes only go up to 24lbs (supposedly you can use them up to 2 years but DS is nearly that weight now at 5mo!), not sure if that is standard amongst all airlines, so I think he will end up sitting on my lap. We can live with taking limited luggage I think, maybe pay for an extra bag if needed. DH keeps insisting the flights will come down in price but I don't think that ever happens!

Have to say that we usually book flights through Canadian Affair and actually preferred to fly with Thomas Cook rather than Air Transat the last 2 times we went over - and that was purely based on seat pitch/legroom and better food (if any airline food can be better!!)smile

However, my brother ALWAYS chose to fly AT and now Canadian Affair only have AT (although as SGM said they seem to contract some out to TC!)

A £400 saving though will not compensate for a rubbish baggage allowance and an overall poor inflight service. That 7 hours you're in the air will seem like a long time if the flight is of poor quality; the old adage you get what you pay for applies. I have also read that not all of their planes have seat back tvs. Recent reviews of this airline on www.airlinequality.com are decidedly mixed. Cheap is not always cheerful.

Hi,

I have booked with them to go to Canada at Easter. Never used them before so have no feedback but I thought I would mention that I don't think they use Thomas Cook anymore... I can't see any reference to them on their website anymore but they were def mentioned when I booked the flights.

So I think you are safe with the luggage allowance!

Thomas Cook is better, but if it has to be AT and you're saving that much money, they're not that bad. They are bad though...but worth saving the money IMO.

Have flown with them a few times and never again.

Both times suffered really long delays going to toronto and coming back.

We stoppped in Glasgow going to toronto , no mntion of this when buying ticket hmm , same thing happened to my parents coming from canada to london.

I can put up with shit food and shit entertainment but long delays is a deal breaker for me and I prefer to pay for schedule airlines.

Thanks for the advice everyone... Got an absolute steal with Virgin so didn't need to use them in the end!

Whay city are flying to, NatashaBee, if you don't mind me asking? I fly to Toronto every other year to see family and never thought of trying Virgin.

We are actually flying from Chicago now. We live near Detroit so Chicago and Toronto are about an equal distance away and both are a lot cheaper than flying from DTW!

Ah, that's a coincidence. My grandparents live in St. Clair Shores.

Enjoy your trip.
