I was thinking perhaps those who live in the same parts of the Country might like to get chatting/do stuff on weekends, etc.
I know I am a weekend widow (friends all happily attached and usually go off on family adventures) so wonderd if we could cobble together some groups for day trips on weekends or whatever?
Whaddya think?

Teahouse Mon 03-Dec-12 21:14:49

Sign me up, although I may be way older than most people here. Hampshire is my area

ChristmasSALutations Mon 03-Dec-12 21:16:34

And me. Although I am awfully nervous when meeting new people and tend to put my foot in it a lot. Not sure anyone will want to meet up now

I'm in Berkshire

ATouchOfStuffing Mon 03-Dec-12 21:24:17

I'm in E.Kent. Not sure how to organise this - perhaps use the same title and suggest something in our areas with a date and time and see who wants to come? I'm thinking something kids friendly as will have DD but can be a woodland walk or whatever grin . Also just because I am in Kent, doesn't mean we can't get a train somewhere for a fun day!

PleaseLetsGoToSleep Mon 03-Dec-12 21:47:56

What a lovely idea! I'm in Cambridgeshire, don't have own transport though so bit of a fail, but lots of enthusiasm!

IneedAgoldenNickname Mon 03-Dec-12 23:41:33

Great idea, I'm in Berkshire (reading)

You are all miles away!

ankh Tue 04-Dec-12 09:59:55

south west london here. i don't know any other single parents in the area.

FrenchJunebug Tue 04-Dec-12 13:47:05

North London here!

ATouchOfStuffing Tue 04-Dec-12 14:01:56

Hooray! I get so bored on weekends, will be lovely to see some new faces!
So we are all more south than midlands?
I don't drive either Please so will be training/busing to wherever. Anyone have ideas of something you would like to go to or see? Will you be bringing kids?

ChristmasSALutations Tue 04-Dec-12 17:01:19

Kids are a permanent fixture with me atm so yes please to something child friendly.

Not sure if I can a weekend this side of Christmas though. It seems to be the only time of year my weekends are busy.

ATouchOfStuffing Tue 04-Dec-12 18:38:57

That's fine - we can start it for the New Year smile

TheJiminyConjecture Tue 04-Dec-12 21:16:10

Me too please! Hampshire also grin

Meglet Tue 04-Dec-12 22:18:19

Is Hampshire overflowing with single parents or something grin.

I don't get away from the kids though, pah! (lunatic, abusive XP who is thankfully long gone).

ATouchOfStuffing Tue 04-Dec-12 22:38:21

OK, so kid friendly it is! Maybe, seeing as there are so many in Hampshire, one of you could suggest something local to you guys as a start? I will be training it with DD, so any suggestions re: transport from nearest station would be handy too. Shall we start in Jan then smile , it's exciting!

exmrs Tue 04-Dec-12 22:58:29

washingonawednesday Wed 05-Dec-12 08:53:23

Eggnoggy Wed 05-Dec-12 21:52:16

didipickles Thu 06-Dec-12 11:30:33

ATouchOfStuffing Thu 06-Dec-12 18:11:23

I'm not sure if it is open in Jan but DD is a bit taken with Peppa Pig, so am considering a trip to Peppa Pig World at some point...
No where near Hampshire though! Any ideas on places to go/see/fun days out etc welcome for Jan grin

InNeedOfBrandyButter Thu 06-Dec-12 18:12:21

Foxy800 Sun 09-Dec-12 09:28:52

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 09-Dec-12 10:08:49

Looks like a lot of us in the South smile
No idea if anyone likes the idea of Peppa Pig world, but looks like they aren't open in Jan. 23rd Feb is their first weekend open after Christmas, so if anyone is free that weekend (seems ages away!) perhaps we can set a date?
https://paultonspark.co.uk/opening-times

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 09-Dec-12 10:09:09
Foxy800 Sun 09-Dec-12 10:28:03

Have been there before and dd loved it.

Capitaltrixie Sun 09-Dec-12 11:36:40

Me too please! Hampshire also (and newly single so this would be absolutely brilliant smile)

Have just looked on Peppa pig World/Paultons Park website and it's closed throughout Jan till end of Feb confused.
How about Marwell Wildlife Park?? I've never been but have heard good things about it (and quite a lot cheaper than PPW!). I just looked & they run a special bus service from Eastleigh Station directly to Marwell for those coming from afar..
Directions to Marwell

Capitaltrixie Sun 09-Dec-12 11:38:46

Sorry! didn't see last 2 or 3 messages before I posted confused

PPW would be great after Jan x

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 09-Dec-12 12:46:08

Also ant to go to www.groombridge.co.uk/ for the Enchanted Forest and www.thehopfarm.co.uk/ but again, looks like they are closed until Feb <twiddles thumbs>

Capitaltrixie Sun 09-Dec-12 18:47:45

Just had a look at the websites and both look really lovely ATouchOfStuffing (the Enchanted Forest looks blimmin' amazing!).
So (if it's not too presumptuous..) how about a trip to PPW at the end of Feb (23rd?) and another trip to either of the two places in Kent afterwards?

dippyeggs Sun 09-Dec-12 20:29:43

Berkshire... I hate weekends! Lovely friends but all very smugmarried..

Peppa Pig land is great for younger kids, mine are 3 and 5. The rest of the park ok for older kids too. Anyway I will keep an eye on plans smile

lizzie479 Sun 09-Dec-12 20:41:21

I'm in Somerset/Bristol

frillynat81 Sun 09-Dec-12 21:50:03

I'm in central Scotland

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 09-Dec-12 22:59:34

That sounds Capital, Trixie! wink
Will put 23rd for PPW into my phone diary now and then it is set grin

Capitaltrixie Mon 10-Dec-12 21:17:26

Great grin I'll put 23rd in my diary too, exciting!

happygolucky0 Mon 10-Dec-12 22:23:10

I am Dorset ...but dont have any small children to take to PPW bless lol hope you have a great time

angelelle Tue 11-Dec-12 20:05:41

Hampshire and old here too (39 lol) with newborn dd and all the nct mums do Stuff with their partners at weekends so also up for childfriendly activities!

She70 Tue 11-Dec-12 20:23:31

I've just found this forum. Not used it before but I'd definitely be interested too. I am in Kent and v newly separated from my husband. I've got two children, 5 & 2.

marryinhaste Tue 11-Dec-12 21:53:12

I'd be interested in meeting people at weekends too - I'm in Kent/London borders and have 2 children - 4 and 2.

Mumfortoddler Tue 11-Dec-12 22:22:32

I'm in Oxfordshire...!! Count me in, will travel, get so bored at weekends!

Sign me up too. I'm in the wrexham area . Saturday is a no no for me as I dance with the girls on a sat but Sundays I'm free. I miss doing stuff on a sun, hard when you see other people playing happy families

ATouchOfStuffing Sat 15-Dec-12 10:07:34

Excellent! I am glad there are so many of us who have free weekends, should make it nice and varied with places to go and people to see! Any other suggestions welcome with dates etc. Hard this side of Christmas I think, but even if people just want to meet for a good playground and lunch somewhere it might be nice?
We could be the WW (weekend widows) rather than the WI wink

Jules666 Sat 15-Dec-12 10:27:35

Me too please! I'm in the Sheffield side of Rotherham.

She70 Sat 15-Dec-12 13:24:59

Those in Kent... Are any close to Leeds Castle? Its got a good playground, places for lunch and if you pay entrance once you get free entry for a year.

Could be a good place to meet up one weekend?

DowagersHump Sat 15-Dec-12 15:38:26

I'd be up for this (also in Kent) smile

DS is a bit old for Peppa Pig but Groombridge Place/Leeds castle would be great

tootsweets Sat 15-Dec-12 16:31:07

I am in Wiltshire. Keep me posted!

zonedout Sun 16-Dec-12 08:51:08

Only just seen this but I'd love to join in. Also find all my friends do family stuff on the weekends

hamerse whereabouts in Herts are you? I'm in N london, with similar aged children. smile

FrenchJunebug whereabouts are you? smile

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 16-Dec-12 12:32:30

Thinking today is such a lovely sunny day it would be great to be doing something different! We've been into town but nothing exciting really.
Leeds castle sounds great - am in East Kent but happy to get trains etc as I said. Anyone else in the East Kent area at all?

She70 Sun 16-Dec-12 15:22:16

A touch of stuffing I am in Hythe so East Kent-ish. Where are you. How old are your children? Mine are 5 (ds) and 2 (dd)

ATouchOfStuffing Sun 16-Dec-12 19:19:32

Ah excellent! My DD is 16mo. Is there a Christmas fair at Rochester or something around this time of year? I am in Canterbury smile

She70 Sun 16-Dec-12 20:04:07

I'm not sure. I don't often go Rochester way. Canterbury is not far at all. We should definitely try to meet up!

DowagersHump Sun 16-Dec-12 20:13:49

My DS is 5, we're in Thanet - not far at all from Canterbury smile

She70 Sun 16-Dec-12 21:59:35

Think we should try to arrange something then. Canterbury way? Not sure exactly what though given children's ages and the winter weather.

I drive so can travel if any suggestions.

ATouchOfStuffing Mon 17-Dec-12 10:36:41

Brilliant! I am a bit stuck for inspiration locally tbh. Walk in Blean Woods or a trip to St Augustines Abbey (kids can run free there as far as I can tell)? Open to suggestions smile

Boofyh Mon 17-Dec-12 17:01:29

Ooh I'm in north Kent, Medway area can I join in? I'm just about to "celebrate" being single for a year and my new year's resolution is to get my arse in gear and make more friends! I have a DD who is 3.
Leeds castle is great but I would stay away from Rochester for the Christmas festival it's a nightmare.

She70 Mon 17-Dec-12 18:25:59

The more the merrier !

How shall we arrange this? I am new on Mumsnet so not sure how we go about arranging a meet up.

Shall we try to pick a date first then take it from there to arrange a venue?

ATouchOfStuffing Mon 17-Dec-12 20:03:59

That sounds sensible. Are you all working or free in the week too?
May have to be Jan weekend wise for me now anyway, but a day in the week is still do-able in Dec smile Any ideas on where to go?

She70 Tue 18-Dec-12 12:59:07

I don't work at the moment although I am going to have to start looking in the New Year I think.

My 5-year old is at school during the day although breaks up on Fri for 2 weeks.

Perhaps the week following Xmas? We don't have plans after 29th.

I'm dreading Xmas and will be glad when its over tbh but at least I can try to make us busy over that period. We don't have plans on Sunday 30th. Any good?

DowagersHump Tue 18-Dec-12 13:05:57

I'm working and DS is at school but we are also free Sun 30th smile

ATouchOfStuffing Tue 18-Dec-12 18:04:12

Ah I am off in Brighton for NYE and leaving on 30th so won't be able to make that date - feel free to get together without me though obviously! smile

Capitaltrixie Sat 29-Dec-12 22:50:33

Just thought I'd bump this to remind everyone about Peppa Pig World in Hampshire on 23rd Jan (because I'm EXCITED grin)

She70 Sun 30-Dec-12 07:29:20

I'm sorry... I've been having a horrible time of things and have really struggled to get through Xmas. Hopefully now its behind me I can start looking forward to the future. I totally forgot about this thread.

Are any of the East Kent ladies free next Sunday, 6th Jan?

Capitaltrixie Sun 30-Dec-12 14:22:36

Sorry to hear things have been hard She70, sending you a big unmumsnetty hug smile, hope things are already starting to get better for you.

farahm Sun 30-Dec-12 20:08:06

I'm in Birmingham - would love to meet other mums??!! grin

TheLittleWhiteRabbit Sun 30-Dec-12 20:44:13

I'm in East London. A meet up sounds really fun. grin

DowagersHump Mon 31-Dec-12 14:18:49

I'm sorry you've had a rough time She70 sad

I am ill (as is DS) so we couldn't have met up yesterday anyway - today is the first day we've left the house in days!

Hopefully 2013 will be a better year - I'd certainly like to see the back of 2012

She70 Tue 01-Jan-13 09:19:36

I'm with you on that dowagershump . Bring on 2013... It has to be better!!

I'm still up for meeting next weekend if anyone else is. Sunday 6th is best for me.

X

BodyUnknown Tue 01-Jan-13 11:38:20

May I join? I am 27, single parent to DD 2.5, based in Oxfordshire but can easily travel between Birmingham and London on Chiltern mainline and to Reading, Bournemouth, Southampton etc on cross country service. I would love to meet other single parents, and it would be great to have some fun family friendly weekends this year. We could do Peppa Pig World on 23 Feb but would need transport from Southampton as no car... Unless it's a reasonable taxi/bus journey from there?

t1971 Fri 04-Jan-13 23:33:23

Airdrie North Lanarkshire 5yr old DD new to Scotland so would be interested in meeting fellow single mums maybe we can help each other out with child care and days out etc.

RMPM Sat 05-Jan-13 00:17:25

I'm south west London ankh

coribells Sat 05-Jan-13 09:27:46

I live in NW London . Have two sons 6&11 - PPW is out I am afraid
But would love to arrange a meet up

good idea. im in south east london

losingtrust Sat 05-Jan-13 21:31:20

Birmingh here also. Only have about four weeks without dcs though as ex lives abroad so kid friendly would be great!

vole3 Sun 06-Jan-13 07:12:07

I'm in Norfolk, but visit family in Hampshire fairly often.
The other option would be to have a network so that if anyone is holidaying in a certain area we could arrange a meet up.
