WHEN DID YOU TAKE OFF YOUR WEDDING RING?

How long after you split did you continue to wear your wedding ring?

Only my family and close friends know and I have not told work etc.

Part of me feels I should still wear it!! Other parts tell me it will be clinging on to something and it would be good for me to take it off!

After we'd been separated for about 6 months and xp started seeing the woman he'd had an affair with the previous year! Felt like it was time to wake up then, and move on. I've not kept the wedding ring, it was plain gold and quite dull. But I have kept a lovely emerald eternity ring bought after birth of DD1, which I'll give to her when she's older. I like the thought of some time buying a nice ring for myself, to wear on my right hand. Because I'm worth it......

We weren't married so no wedding ring, but I did have an eternity ring that he'd brought me about 2 mths before we split.

As soon as he moved out I started wearing it on my other hand instead.

I took my ring off when I discovered he was cheating on me.

And threw it at him. Hard.

Thank you! sorry girls, blatant thread hijac! Back to wedding ring discussion....
Horseshoe, how long have you been separated from your ex?

I kept mine on for the whole time I was trying to make a go of things with ex-H. Once I sued for divorce I took my rings off.

I took mine off the second he walked out of the door and put it away. I felt like it would be burning my skin to keep it on any longer. He was shocked I had done it so soon but I couldn't bear people to see me as married to the loser who was banging anything that moved.

I didn't wear mine for about eighteen months before we actually separated!

To me our marriage was over and I just didn't see the point of wearing it anymore.

Sad I know.

I still wear my engagement ring on the other hand a) because I misguidedly liked the person who gave it to me and b) because I chose it myself and it is beautiful. I see no reason to associate it with the w**ker of a husband I had or for that matter the X.

Took my rings off when we had a trial separation and according to X that was the last straw. he had been shagging someone else whilst I trailed to relate and apologised for my behaviour but the ring was the last straw! I like the reasoning and blame culture there!

I have kept my ring though just in case the girls ever want it but they might think it was cursed!

I stopped wearing mine 8 years before we split, when we first went through a bad phase and never put it back on. I threw the engagement & wedding rings away a year after he left.

I took mine off I think about 2 weeks after he left....glad I did cos his had gone.

I suppose moving str in with his mistress, he/they didnt want the reminder that he was married

However I am wearig my wedding ring again - about 3 or 4 months later for some reason I felt sentimental(desperate) and put it back on on my other hand....now I cant get it off cos Ive put on weight - that is really annoying

I wasnt wearing mine,as sometimes it irritated me, so didn't ever have that concious moment to 'take it of'.
When he walked in with his taken off,( about 6 weeks after he left, and had then subsequently met someone) which shocked me, I knew I would never put mine back on again.

I cried buckets putting the rings away, into a box. They r in the loft now.

BUT,
for xmas this year I bought myself a lovely ring from my dd 4, and wear it on my right hand.
I just felt the time was right to have some thing new and positive, and i will elaveit to my dd one day. it feels a bit uncomfortable, and feels much better on my left hand on the wedding band finger.
May swap it over, but then again dont want any potential suitors to get the wrong impression

I kept mine on for a few months after out decision to separate. The reasons for this were because a lot of people at work etc didn't yet know about our situation & also because it just made my finger feel all bare & weird!

I'm married but I don't always wear my wedding ring anyway. I take it off twice a week for college - I'm a beauty therapist and can't wear jewellry whilst I'm giving treatment - and sometimes just forget to put it back on.
My dh doesn't really like it but to me it's just not really a sentimental thing, it's just a trinket although a very nice one!! But it doesn't mean I'm any more committed with it on or off.

But that's just my view and I can understand that in a marriage break-up the ring could feel very significant.

pirategirl · 04/02/2007 11:54

Of course it can be significant.

The giving and recieving of rings symbolises the commitment.

I too didnt wear mine all the time. Yet being forced to take it off permanantly is one heck of a symbolistic thing.

Im a Christian and so for me the ring was important as a symbol of my life long committment to him.
To take it off hurt like hell which is probably why I put it back on but on the other hand (and now its stuck til I lose weight)

I was engaged not married, and I'm still wearing my ring, 17 months after splitting. It was very amicable and we're still in contact, but I don't want to get back together.

However, I'm a GP and my patients don't know I'm single now. They're a very nosey bunch, and it would be such a big deal if I took my ring off.

Also, I like it - I chose it myself and it's lovely.

When I reach a point of seriously looking for a new partner, then I guess I'll remove it.
