Realistically how long does it take to learn to drive? I'm going to start doing a lesson every week.

I had dozens of lessons in the past and got nowhere. This year I had 8 and passed my test, I also went out with DH a little

I felt much more ready mentally this time. I read up about driving and asked people about their driving and that helped.

It depends on the instructor though, don't be afraid to change to find the right one and one that will push you.
I told mine I needed to pass and I didn't have much money - he understood and pushed me through.

It differs between students, and instructors. I had 1.5 hours weekly for 8 months and passed first time.

I'm on track to pass just after Christmas so about 6 months of two hour weekly lessons.

Bit of a 'piece of string' really. DH had one pupil who passed after 10 hours, another has had over 100.

Swishy, I love your confidence on track to pass Smile

Op, it will take as long as it needs to take until you are safe to pass your test. The main thing is to get started, you may be a natural driver or you may need more lessons than some.

An instructor once told me that the average is the same number of weeks as your age, so if you're 50 it's take that many weeks. It was only an average mind, and it was quite a few years ago too.
