I'm a single mum of four (14, 12, 9, 5) I'm a qualified hairdresser with 17 years experience, I got offered a job recently but they wanted me to work saturdays 8.30 - 6.30 - I have no one to help with childcare, and I can't afford paid childcare. I can do in the week, and I have someone to help with kids after school, just not at the weekends. What is the best job for me to go for? I have been trying now since December and I'm having no luck Sad maybe I am being abit impatient... I just really want to get back to work! Are there any mums out there that have been in the same position - I'd really appreciate some advice and help. I don't know any other single mums and going back to work is feeling really scary and overwhelming right now Sad

I think the only option is to go mobile. Print some cards out and put them in the local Post office etc. Then you can work around the children.
The hairdresser that I had before the one I have now did it until she built up her clientele and then she opened a salon of her own.
The present one I have, does it. He has an agreement with local OAP homes etc and is doing well enough to run a flash car.

A single mum near me has recently opened a kids hair salon which seems to be doing well.

As a single parent, you don't have to take a job that doesn't fit in with school hours so don't feel pressured into taking a job with evenings and weekends!

Going mobile as pp have said would be a good option - then you can keep what ever times you like!

I was going to suggest mobile or maybe rent a chair in a salon.
