Housing Benefit and new single parent - please help

Hi ya,

I'm trying to help a friend.

She has recently split up from long term partner. Neither of us can work out how to claim for housing benefit.

She has a joint account that she is using atm to pay for nearly everything. Her husband gets paid into this account.

How do people manage the transitional period?

On the housing benefit form will this large income be taken into account? Even though it is not hers and she is using (because she has to!) it only in the short term.

Hi, I don't claim housing benefit but last week I went into the council offices to see if I can get a council tax reduction. I had the same problem as your friend, and the lady wrote a note on the bank statements explaining the situation. I would imagine it happens a lot...
