Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how many hours I can work a week before it affects benefits? I work full time at the moment and don't receive anything but I've been thinking of a job change and move to be nearer family.

I have the chance to get a part time, term time only position but didn't know if I would be able to manage financially. My dd is 3.5 and will soon be in school full time. I used to be on income support and had full housing benefit so am unsure how working tax credit works etc. I've tried to go on the site to work out how much I'll get but am finding it so confusing!

  1. Over 16 you lose IS but gain tax credits

Is the calculator you tried entitledto.com?

I think from next year you will need to work more than 16 hours a week. I was best off as a lone parent financially working about 30 hours a week but this will vary based on your wage etc.

Yes entitledto. Where's the best place to find out about all of this? I had a lone parent adviser at the job centre before but I, not receiving anything now so unsure. Maybe I'll try the CAB too. Thanks for your replies.
