Will any airline allow me to fly with 5 month old twins?

In the process of separating and would like to plan a few days abroad this summer with DC (five month old twins) but it looks like I won't be allowed to fly on my own with them as all the airlines I have checked with will only allow a ratio of one infant per adult (I was planning on booking a seat for one of them and taking the car seat onboard, and hold the second twin on my lap)

I guess my questions is if anyone has done this before, or if I'm stuck with staying somewhere I can drive to instead...

Thanks a lot

What a bummer.
I just checked Aer Lingus (had page open because I was pricing flights today) and you can take two infants if one of them is over 6 months. Is it the same for the other airlines you've checked? Could you just wait an extra month if so?
Another alternative is taking the train, although this is a bit restrictive too in terms of destination. you'd have all of Europe though.

Aerlingus say one adult cannot be responsible for more than two infants so they might be a possibility? Aer Lingus

Norwegian say the same (we're booked on Norwegian this spring, Gatwick to Faro never flown with them before but the flights were cheap)

You can't use a rear facing car seat onboard as there is no way of securing it. You can use a forward facing, but at 6 months the twins will be two small. The main reason for not allowing you to travel on your own is that there wouldn't be enough oxygen masks to go around per row. There is, usually, only 1 extra per bank of seats. Hence another person would need to hold the other infant.

If you can bear to wait until your dt are a few months older an take a forward facing car seat you could pay for a seat then. Is there any chance a friend would come with you now?

Are the twins five months old now or will be in the summer? If they will be only five months in summer, surely they haven't even been born yet?

That is good to know QOD, I've never heard of them before last night.

Hi all,

Wow, thanks so much for all your responses!! The twins are five months now, so they will be around a year old come summer.

I was looking at somewhere warm so Norwegian might be my saviour; didn't think they flew other than to Scandinavian countries so hadn't checked them out ... Faro sounds great for little ones so I'll definitely check their route map in the morning.

Same with Air Lingus... not familiar with them so will look at their destinations too.

Don't have any single friends to possibly join us but I'll be travelling with DD1 who will be 10 so doable with a forward facing car seat (thanks for the remainder Oscar!) and her help.

OK just checked Norwegian and they fly direct from LGW to Faro, Mallorca, Split in Croatia as well as Nice/Provence and Alicante. And it looks like I'll be able to fly with all three DC on my own.

Very excited, off to google which destination will be better for the LO as well as the 10 year old. It's been a horrific Christmas and the worse is still to come (selling the family home and moving out in the next couple of months) so the break will be more than well deserved and something nice to look forward to.

Ha, couldn't get on Facebook or other social sites damn it, only things like mumsnet and mail online, yahoo etc.

We've only used them to go to and from Norway ourselves, the thing was, Norwegians had to fly to Uk to get to Spain etc etc so they've taken the direct routes up just the last few years.
But those lovely Norse people just zip over to London like we perhaps get a coach or train, as everything here is so incredibly cheap, to them.
Packet of biscuits for £7 anyone?

Have been to Faro with 4 small ones myself (ages 5,4,2,6mo) and found everyone very friendly and the beaches/restaurants etc child friendly. buses go everywhere (their driving was a bit scary though)

Hope you have a great time wherever you end up!
