name on birth certificate

Does anyone know of the pros and cons of having my 'baby dad' on the birth certificate. He has refused any contact with me and wants nothing to do with his child (due in Feb). I haven't had time yet to call anyone for advice of naming him. I would prefer not to put unknown on the cert but does anyone know if leaving him off causes any issues re: CSA etc???

Thanks

Hello I would keep him off the birth certificate if that is his attitude, if you are not married he would physically have to come with you to register the birth anyway (which sounds unlikely if he is refusing contact)

You don't have 'unknown' on the certificate it is just left blank.

If he is named on the birth certificate it will give him some paternal rights which also might not be a good idea if he is being an idiot.

It won't have any affect on a CSA claim.

My dds 'dad' (I use that term loosely) is not on the birth certificate.

thank you- he won't be coming along for sure...he refuses contact with me. So that means I can't name him then? Oh well, my question is answered. Thanks everyone.

No you can't name him (unless you are married?) but tbh he sounds like my dds waste of space father a right idiot so probably for the best Grin good luck and congrats on the pregnancy!!

FWIW I have been on my own with dd (now 6yo) since pregnancy, it is hard at times but also there is definately lots of pros as well!!!

Wait till the baby is born before making any decisions.

Csa wont care if he's on it or not.

If he's on it he has legal parental responsibility that means legal rights the same as you would have.

If he's not on it he won't have them unless he gets a court order.

If in doubt don't put him on it, I left my youngests dad off because he continually threatened to walk out with the baby and I was told by my solisiter that if he did that and was on it I would have to take him to court to get the baby back if he wasn't on it the police would help me.

The OP doesn't have a decision to make. She can't put his name on the bc without his consent.

I was obviously meaning if he decided to ask to attend at registration or fill in the declaration before as it sounded like the op was at some point intending to perhaps ask him or discus it with him.

If she turned up to register and tried to add him she would be told she can't without him so that would be a none issue.

Sock sorry if you felt my post was aimed at yours, it wasn't. It was in reply to redHelenB. Unless, as you say, he changes his mind, which sounds extremely unlikely, the op doesn't have a decision to make.
