caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 13:20:52

I have dust in my eyes....

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 13:32:53

I am here sad

I don't really want to watch it because then that's it isn't it ?

OodHousekeeping Mon 10-Sep-12 13:59:22

I'm here sobbing

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Mon 10-Sep-12 14:04:11

Just got back and switched on to see Jessica Ennis parents. How's it going folks?

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:04:33

I'm here, watching avidly.

Such fantastic memories.

OodHousekeeping Mon 10-Sep-12 14:11:58

The 'it's such a perfect day' bit started me off blush

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:14:01

Oh, I know, it's sooo emotive. I feel very proud today, of everyone.

Thought C4 did a fab job of the Paralympic coverage.

Gutted for the people who are working and children at school who are missing this.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 14:16:35

They should be playing the "flame" (you all know what I mean) music.

(darn dust)

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea Mon 10-Sep-12 14:20:34

Love the mounted police high fiving children in the crowd.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:24:32

OMG it is sheeting it down here (SE not far from London). Hope it isn't going the Parade's way, they'll all get soaked !

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:29:22

I knew I would miss somesad
will catch up later. Ahhhh Mo, amazing couple of weeks for him- 2 gold medals and twin daughtersgrin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Mon 10-Sep-12 14:39:24

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea Mon 10-Sep-12 14:43:31

hattymattie Mon 10-Sep-12 14:45:26

Love it smile

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:46:30

I like the lions.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:48:32

must be an amazing feeling on those floats. See, this is what we want. The athletes- not 3 hours of coldplay!

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:49:25

Completely concur, Raahh.

They are all amazing.

OodHousekeeping Mon 10-Sep-12 14:49:44

sobbing at the horses

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:49:58

Zara is lovely.

Hersetta Mon 10-Sep-12 14:50:01

Just got back to work from the parade. my boss insisted we all went (she really wanted to go) so we had prime spots right opposite the start at mansion house. Saw all our gold medalists - loved Chris Hoy - he looked overwhelmed by the crowd.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:50:35

I want to see it all again.

hattymattie Mon 10-Sep-12 14:50:55

Zara is class!

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 14:51:39

I was there, standing on the steps of St Paul's in my lunchbreak. Saw Mo doing a Mobot, Rebecca Adlington pointing to Ellie Simmonds and mouthing "IT'S ELLIE!" to the crowd in mock amazement, Tom Daley grinning like a cheshire cat and taking pictures on his Blackberry. Amazing atmosphere, amazing athletes, amazing games. smile

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 14:54:27

I have got to go and get my children sad

I can't record or pause on my stupid fat back telly .

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:55:47

I am flicking between 1 and 4. I am confusing myself.

I want it all to start again- although the Olympics started the day the dc finished school. I'm not sure I can cope with them being off againgrin

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:57:21

and yes, I have to go get my children pesky children grin

Furball Mon 10-Sep-12 14:57:26

The crowds are amazing - what fabulous, fabulous support folk have given to the games right from start to this the end.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 14:59:27

wouldn't it be cool, if at the end of this there was a little street party with jelly? and wee hats. Lots left over from the Jubilee.

Where's Wenlock and Mandeville??

gah! better go.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Mon 10-Sep-12 15:07:05

I usually walk to and from school, but for once I have the car today so am going to use it to save time and hopefully get back to see the end!!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney Mon 10-Sep-12 15:10:35

Ellie!!!!! She is so fab.

ariadneoliver Belgium Mon 10-Sep-12 15:13:24

Just got back to the office from watching the parade, what an incredible atmosphere. I suppose I should now delete my Olympics app, but I'm in denial.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 15:14:08

Ellie is wonderful. It is my DD's dream now to meet her !

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 15:14:34

There's Jonnie ! grin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 15:17:25

And lovely Louis and Beth !

Am LOVING the Lions, they are brilliant !

showtunesgirl Mon 10-Sep-12 15:20:26

I was there! So glad I went. I saw Mo do the Mobot, Ellie waving, Chris Hoy, Greg Rutherford, the Brownlee boys. Briiliant!

OodHousekeeping Mon 10-Sep-12 15:24:10

Was there a Dalek on the athletics float?

JugglingWithBocciaBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 15:25:12

Saw Tom !

< faints wink >

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 10-Sep-12 15:33:00

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 15:50:16

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 15:50:54

I am back with pesky children , saw the red arrows , fabtastic !

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 15:51:25

I like Amy McDonald.

we need the [torch] back

just got back - it was fab
I sneaked DS out of school and he was one of the few kids there so loads of athletes waved to him (he was also shouting like a loon).
And Mo did a mobot AT HIM especially

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 15:52:44

ariadne- I still haven't deleted last year's Wimbledon app

I find it hard to let gogrin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 15:53:13

It's really all over now, isn't it ?

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 15:55:43

I know she's great role model etc, but I can't warm to Helen Skelton.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 15:57:50

DH is mates with Ben. wink Helen is lovely but she has a grating kinda voice.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:02:48

notyummy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:04:11

Liked the Amy McDonald song!

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 16:04:24

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:04:33

Amazin'. All of 'em. <wipes tears>

Yay ! Someone other than Clodplay ! grin

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:05:05

Ooooo Pet Shop Boys are good.

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 16:06:45

You would just burst with pride if one of your children was on that stage now wouldn't you ?

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:06:55

I could have listened to the PSB's last night, and Amy. Hell, even Heather Small singing 'Proud' would have been more appropriategrin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:07:01

I expect the next time we see bits of it again will be on SPOTY ?

We should have a thread for that, so we can all cry together again.

<passes tissues>

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:07:42

what a brilliant sight
[torch] awkward

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:07:59

I'm watching too. My mum was a gamesmaker and got a ticket for the stands in the mall in the ballot. I do hope she's having a good time. she's shattered, her back is completely knackered from all the walking she's done as she's done both the Olympics and Paralympics. She only had 2 days off during the Olympics and one day off in the Paralympics.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:08:13

If one of my DCs was there, I'd be yelling my head off, yoghurt. grin

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:08:34

Beautiful moment and beautiful opening line from the fabulous Pet Shop Boys.

And all 'Made in Britain' <<sigh and sob>>

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:09:19

I always cry when i watch SPOTY. They will need a 3 week show to honour all the 'lympians alonegrin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:09:30

Please thank your Mum for all her hard work, headfairy.

I think there should be some kind of formal 'award' for all the gamesmakers.

Brilliant, everyone.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:09:40

Yes, yoghurt definitely.

<grabs tissue>

Miniwaffle has been inspired and is insisting on winning a Gold in the future - just wants to know which year to aim for hmmgrin

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:11:39

Well done your mother headfairy and all the Gamesmakers.

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:11:45

I will do MrsV grin

I'm very proud of her because it's very very far out of her comfort zone. She speaks lots of languages so she was in the protocol team looking after competitors and their support teams and a few members of various royal families grin

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 16:12:50

I want them all to do a song and dance routine a la glee

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:13:19

See- the PsB's have a song for every occasion!

We need pointy hats for this

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:13:49

Why not the PSB's last night instead of leave us Cold play, eh?

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:13:57

Sounds fantastic, headfairy. smile

It must be a huge comedown for all the GM's mustn't it ?

I hope your Mum has some lovely memories to cherish. <soppy>

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:15:01

Tanni and Gabby are groovin'. grin

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:15:12

Saving the best for last I think. They would have been good last night, but perfect for now.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:16:07

And Sir Matt !

I am missing it all so much already.

Life's going to be shite, isn't it ? Doom and gloom from now till....... ? sad

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:17:02

A sea of pink and purple

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:17:52

She does, but she's so not star struck it's hilarious. Lots of time she just shrugged off that she'd been looking after the Queen of Spain all day or been chatting to Boris at lunch! I had to remind her to take her camera with her today so she could take some pictures! and I had to beg her not to bin her gamesmaker outfit at the end of the games. she's already given her hats to ds and a watch to one niece and the other watch to my dd grin

I'm loving watching the coppers in the crowd all bopping to the PsBs grin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:18:13

Off Off Off

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 16:18:21

Bugger it really is all done and dusted isn't it ?

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:18:23

Why Cameron I know he's the pm, but still

Why not Seb?

I love Princess Anne.

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:18:38

sorry, that was in response to MrsVamos grin

yoghurtisnoticecream Mon 10-Sep-12 16:19:00

Cameron shouldn't be allowed !

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:19:05

See, I couldn't of been a GM. I would be too star-struck !

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:20:09

I couldn't be a GM, i am a miserable cowgrin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:20:28

I got that, fairy ! grin

Oh, please DC fuck the fuck off. And when you get there......

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:21:19

grin paRaahhh

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:21:42

From the torch relay onwards, it has all been fab.

Go Anne!!

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:21:47

Well, that too, Raahh. And the fact that I really shouldn't be out alone. grin

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:21:57

Yes. Anne, on. David, off please.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:23:06

Davidoff. grin

GO ANNE ! We like you !

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:24:04

Oh yes grin

101handbags Mon 10-Sep-12 16:24:51

Saw the parade at Ludgate Hill. Absolutely brilliant. Still buzzing. I have recorded it all & can't wait to see it later. The red arrows flew over our office, we all rushed to the window to look, then they appeared on TV seconds later. An amazing day & a great way to end it all.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:24:58

I think people are cheering cos they want Bo Jo to take on and oust Davidoff.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:25:16

I always wonder what Anne would have looked like, if she hadn't hit on a certain hairdo in 1973, and stuck to it. She had lovely blonde curls when she was little.

Boris, you loon. grin

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:25:27

Oh. He just thanked me. haha

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:25:37

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:26:48

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:27:18

has he been drinking? This is brilliant. grin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:27:34

Can you imagine him as PM ?! shock

beingagoodmumishard Mon 10-Sep-12 16:28:01

Go Boris!

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:28:32

Ok stop now, Boris, stop now. grin

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:28:45

Sing, ladies !

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:29:10

Funny BoJo.

Oh no KJ.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:29:11

Oh, no. I loathe Katharine Jenkins.

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:29:23

Oh she's spoilt it for me now. Should really have ended on Heather Small.

noddyholder Mon 10-Sep-12 16:29:29

Why is she so annoying?

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:30:28

Bye, 'lympics and paralympics. 'lympians and paralympians.

It's been fantabulous.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:30:56

<cheers and applauds>

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:31:02

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:31:29

AND, just thought....WHERE WAS CLARE ?

Oh no...it can't be over, can it ?

It's all been so good.....back to reality.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:32:35

Yes, where was OUR Clare?

marshmallowpies Mon 10-Sep-12 16:32:36

Oh great, love the shot of Hamface Cameron stood by the presenters, not knowing where to go next, with a confused grin on his face grin.

Pet Shop Boys were great...and the athletes of course!

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:32:49

I saw Clare on one of the buses earlier. I love her. I have been reading her autobiography -- in the DM--. grin

What's this woman got on her head

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:33:23

The next logo?

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:33:37

DH just said why is she wearing a gateaux ? grin

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:34:10

<arf> at Logo

She's got a dead swan on her arm and skirt- not sure what's on her head!

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:34:29

Can't do links on IPad, so hope that works. Much more fitting!

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:34:44

I can't repeat what dh said about her frock and the positioning of the fluffy bit....

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:35:57

All over sad

[torch] (< looks silly)

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:35:58

is that it? A few crap party poppers?

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sad

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:36:09

Awww. That's it. sad

This is a bit of an iffy ending really - just texting a friend who was a Gamesmaker and was part of the group on the Mall. Apparently they were told this morning that they'd be seeing all the entertainment, but now they've put barriers up and told them all to go home. They've looked pretty for the media and now they're not needed... Bit of a sour note to end on for them (she's not a Londoner, she's travelled up from Devon to do this)

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:36:34

[torch] [torch] persistent

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:36:51

I DEMAND fireworks!

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:37:14

oh, MrsD- that's a bit rubbishsad

Nancy66 Mon 10-Sep-12 16:37:31

was Bradley Wiggins there - never saw him

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:37:44

I think we should have a 'summer of sport' every year.

Fuck the football, I want proper sports and proper sports people.

Let's start a riot !

We should start a campaign or something to ensure the legacy is fulfilled.

Clare on C4 now

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:38:24

MrsD that is terrible. shock

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:38:30

Is bradley doing the 'Tour of britain'?

Seb and Claire! [torch] not giving up

It is really sad She reckons around 50% of the Gamesmakers missed out.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:39:35

Glad to have shared the Olympics and Paralympics with you all (and in more ways than just here) grin

[torch] << hmm

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:40:00

Aww, lovely Clare.

beingagoodmumishard Mon 10-Sep-12 16:40:16

I think Bradley Wiggins is on Tour of Britain cycle race. He is meant to be cycling near us on Saturday smile

Seb and Clare together - ahhhh

MrsD - that's awful, i'm not impressed !

Andy Murray has other things to do today too !

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:41:34

Do you remember our Opening Ceremony threads ? Bloody brilliant !

I love you all, but you all know that. It does make everything much more special when you share it.

We should have a sports enthusiasts meet-up. Ha !

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:41:50

Claire looked like she was going to cry.

Coldplay again....

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:42:06

"Nobodyyyyyyy does it betterrrrrrrr..."

Tissues out - a montage on BBC1 (I'm flicking between channels)

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:43:05

Well, we can re-convene (sp) and cry through SPOTY.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:43:06

Go to BBC1

MaureenMLove England Mon 10-Sep-12 16:43:21

Ok, proper crying now!

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:43:37

I am flicking between Channels. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO not Clods again.

AArrrggghhhhh !

Awww, Carly Simon.

Reminds me of B&Q.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:43:39

ahh, yes the beeb is better.

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:44:05

pmsl @ B and Q

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:44:27

We can reconvene at half 8 to watch the best bits on BBC1 if you like ? grin

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:44:28

ooh nice music playout BBC grin

paRaahhlympiansgoingforgold Mon 10-Sep-12 16:44:29

oh. It's oversad

little [torch]

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:45:16

Poof. All gone. sad

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:45:22

All over.

T'was fantastic.

caramelwaffle Mon 10-Sep-12 16:46:02

Best bits? Half past eight you say....?

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 16:46:22

whoever asked about tour of Britain.... they're starting the last stage in our home town next Sunday grin Brad and the Cav confirmed as taking part grin

Can't wait! Ds is getting a load of cycling gear for his (5th) birthday on Thursday because he wants to be just like Brad <heart melts> so he is super excited!

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 16:46:27

See you then !

OodHousekeeping Mon 10-Sep-12 17:06:08

Bradley is coming almost past my work this week.. Got annoyed about the traffic problems then realised it was him!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 10-Sep-12 17:08:09

it has been splendid to enjoy the olympics and paralympics with you all, it made it so much more fun.

What a summer!

Moln Mon 10-Sep-12 17:08:59

I missed most of it. Stupid work.

Came home around the time of a young lady whose name I don't know playing the guitar and sing. Glad to have seen the althletes group together.

Sadly did see the Pet Shop Boys (why? Just WHY? So much musical talent and they chose THEM? Why?)

I now feel all empty inside. What do I do? (can't imagine what I'd be like if I still lived in Britian and could have partaken!)

Elephantscanwearorangeandgold Mon 10-Sep-12 17:10:54

I refuse to belive its all over.
When i get up tommorow, the olympics will just be starting.

I caught the end of the C4 coverage as BBC1 had finished - great poem (it was on last night as well).

I liked the fact that the presenters (most of them) got really involved and were not 'just doing their job'.

Highlights tonight then flags up again for SPOTY.
(Looks to see whether we can get to the final stage of Tour of Britain next Sunday)

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 17:24:25

Ooooh MrsV, we'll have to adopt some kind of MN code so we can recognise each other grin

headfairy Mon 10-Sep-12 17:25:00

I'll be the one screeching at a teeny tiny lycra clad cyclist dementedly wheeling around crowded streets!

JugglingWithBocciaBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 17:34:09

MrsV - wondered for a minute what your DC's had done to upset you grin blush

JugglingWithBocciaBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 17:36:59

sorry that was MrsV page 4, 16.20 ...

... telling DC to fuck off !

JugglingWithBocciaBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 18:18:24

Oh poor old DC ... I've just seen him on the news - hoped his advisers hadn't just told him about the latest post on Mumsnet's Olypmpic & Paralympic parade thread. You do wonder sometimes !

Still, at least he promised more money which makes a change !
Though, fair enough, he said other things were important too.

PurpleAndPoppyWearer Mon 10-Sep-12 20:38:50

Sad to say, what MrsD's friend said about how us Gamesmakers were treated at the parade today was true. We couldn't see very much, only the floats as they went past, but we couldn't see the signs saying which sports, and we were 10-20 deep. Most of the athletes we facing the dignitaries on the other side.

Couldn't see the stuff in front of the palace at all, in spite of big screens. Could hardly hear it. Very few snacks and drink available to buy at Games prices. Disgusting portaloos. No seats at all. Had to arrive early and stand for four hours.

They refused to let us onto the Mall in spite of a crush. Bearing in mind that we have Home Office clearance and training as stewards in crowd management! Wanted us gone ASAP. School kids who didn't even know who any athletes were (apart from the "Judo man what was in Big Brother") were given priority up-close access and the athletes were whisked away from us. Dreadful. Talk about leaving a sour taste in the mouth. I'm gutted. I gave up my family's summer...sad.

Wish I hadn't got a ticket and had just gone and stood in the crowd or watched on TV.

This is just shocking. I would contact the papers if I were you. angry

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 20:45:10

I was just thinking and about to post the same thing, showtunesgirl.

PurpleandPoppyWearer I am disgusted on your behalf.

You should contact the papers. That's utterly wrong.

How very dare you suggest I would tell my darling DCs to eff off. shock

Actually, I do sometimes, just not quite like that. grin

PurpleAndPoppyWearer Mon 10-Sep-12 20:48:03

There were plenty of press around, and we were chanting "let us in" very loudly. I don't want to put a downer on the Games, I think the parade was organised by Boris and the London lot rather than the Olympic/Paralympic Committees. Their security firm (NOT G4S!) were awful. The police did their best for us but had their hands tied. Lots of people were saying they planned to complain - but what good would it do.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 20:54:27

It wouldn't do much good, except to emphasise to the public once again, that the people we have in power throughout our country don't actually give a fuck about any of us 'little people'.

The whole thing was sold today on tv as being a way to say thank you to the public and the gamesmakers for their support and hard work...if that was not the case, I think you should scream it from the rooftops.

Big Society ? Big Load of Bollocks. angry

PurpleAndPoppyWearer Mon 10-Sep-12 20:55:58

I'm watching the TV highlights and it's so deceptive, the only people allowed down to the front to watch were the Forces (fair enough), Athletes' families (ditto) and the random school groups.

Then empty swathes of Tarmac behind them. Then a cordon of police. Then us, contained behind barriers to either side, on the pavements, straining for every word, having to lift cameras high above our heads to see anything. Empty road down the middle of The Mall.

MrsVamos Mon 10-Sep-12 21:07:00

I saw that too.

I think it was such a 'rush job' to organise the Parade, that it wasn't done properly. There were obviously several GMs who were also still working with people.

I think it's disgusting, and that there should be something formal as I said earlier, as a way to say thank you to all the GMs.

But then I guess that's the whole point of volunteering. You do it because you want to, and don't expect any thanks. sad

I also think that Team GBs success from the Olympics and Paralympics was unexpected, which threw the organisers to do 'something'.

JugglingWithBocciaBalls Mon 10-Sep-12 22:39:19

Last night .... sorry to any Games Makers who were not treated as they should have been during today's celebrations ... There were clearly many athletes and so many ordinary watchers of the games who wanted to thank you today for what you achieved in putting on these games this summer thanks

Have we run out of steam with our positivity on this thread, or can we finish with one last round of applause ... for the athletes, the Games Makers, for so many magical moments, and for a new spirit of understanding forged especially during the best Paralympics ever held ?

< applause and tears sad >

PurpleAndPoppyWearer Mon 10-Sep-12 23:00:00

<whistles> Always look on the bright side of life...

The Games were unforgettable, I am proud of our country!

MrsVamos Tue 11-Sep-12 14:43:12

I LOVED every minute.

JugglingWithPossibilities Tue 11-Sep-12 17:39:05

Have had to name change following the final parade sad ...

But inspired by the Paralympics and a guy with no legs who climbed a mountain with friends recently - who said he hoped it would encourage people to "re-think their own possibles" I am now ....

(also nicely post-modern I feel smile)

Go on then, I'll do some final positivity smile.

I spent a long weekend in London during the Olympics and was lucky enough to have tickets for athletics and hockey. I had the experience of a lifetime. The crowds, atmosphere, organisation and buzz were astounding. I could go into detail but I'd be here for hours!

And despite being a sports fan, I had never paid much attention to the paralympics before. That's all changed smile - it became about elite sport rather than participation, and has changed my perception for ever.

I just want to say a huge thank you to Seb Coe, LOCOG, TFL, the military, the GMs, the athletes and everyone else who was there in person and in spirit.

My eyes have been like a leaky tap; it's been beyond amazing; and like someone else said ,I am so proud of my country. Thank you grin
