Olympic Weather Forecast thread

(117 Posts)

I've dithered between putting it in this section and the weather section.....

Quick disclaimer: Remember I'm an amateur forecaster and so I do get things wrong. Please don't make critical decisions based on any forecasts in this thread!

I'll only work up to 10 days in advance (which is five more days than I do normally any more than that and it really is getting into utter guess work. Anything after 5 days is really just trends and possibilities) Also please bear with me if I dont get round to answering everyones individual questions. As we go through the days the forecasts will change.

So:
27th July (Opening Ceremony)
All 3 main models I look at are showing a low pressure developing to the south with a warm (hot in the se?) and humid air mass. This means that heavy showers are likely in the south possibly with thunderstorms. (nature adding an extra light show to the evenings entertainments?)

Sat 28th July
Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. (In Scotland it looks bloody cold according to GFS, with temps struggling to reach 10C!) Unsettled with widespread showers.

"Sun 29th July*
Looking decidedly unsettled according to GFS with low pressure dominating and cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. However ECMWF looks more optimistic with high pressure forming in the wings - so lets hope that is the more accurate model smile

PoppyWearer Sat 21-Jul-12 16:34:29

I need a dry weekend next weekend! If you can arrange that please I'd be most grateful. grin

zandy Sat 21-Jul-12 16:39:05

I need a dry Saturday next week. Status Quo in the open air. They're too old to have to perform in the cold and the wet. Worcestershire.

Prays to the OYBK weather goddess.

PoppyWearer Sat 21-Jul-12 16:44:17

Should we start making ritual sacrifices to the weather Gods?

I need it dry next weekend! We are going to the dressage on Sunday and staying up in London the night before - dont want to be carrying round wet weather gear!

Madsometimes Sat 21-Jul-12 18:02:51

Thanks so much for this, I was hoping that you would do a forecast smile.

I'm at the equestrian on the 31st, and the temporary grandstand is uncovered. Hopefully there will be no rain, otherwise everyone will get soaked.

Maryz Sat 21-Jul-12 18:12:34

I would like, if possible, to have one dry day in August, preferably a Wednesday, so ds and his friends can go to the beach.

Do you suppose that is too much to ask [bitter]

<ignores entire rest of thread, presuming this is an "Ask OYBBK to manage the weather" thread>

grin

Maryz Sat 21-Jul-12 18:13:22

Oh, on a serious note, dh would like to know about wind. He's worried about wind, not rain, on account of being a rower. He would like a calm day on Thursday 2nd please.

If only I had the power maryz!

Is your dh rowing in the Olympics? The 2nd is rather far out, but at the moment the winds are shown by gfs to,be very light, with high pressure ( sort of) over us.

GobblersKnob Sat 21-Jul-12 18:33:03

Sod the Olympics, ds's birthday is on the 27th (far more important), please say the Midlands will be dry and I will be a happy bunny grin

CointreauVersial Sat 21-Jul-12 18:35:54

I will be trudging round Chessington with five over-excited 9-year-olds on Friday 27th, so my fingers are firmly crossed that cagoules won't be needed.

Maryz Sat 21-Jul-12 18:42:39

Oh, no, he retired many years ago, but he is going to watch. Light winds sound great.

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan Sat 21-Jul-12 20:52:52

ahem, the olympics start on the 25th round here, before the opening ceronomy.

I didn't know that Susan! That's a bit silly! grin

25 th July - well, bit of a scorcher really across the south and midlands with temps in the high 20s or even perhaps 30c. Cooler in the north esp in coastal areas. Dry pretty much everywhere.

26 th July - high temps become more confined to the south! Maybe the odd shower further north.

Ok, todays guess forecast

25 th July - well, bit of a scorcher really across the south and midlands with temps in the high 20s or even perhaps 30c. Cooler in the north esp in coastal areas. Mostly dry, but perhaps the odd shower in the Midlands and northern England.

26 th July - high temps become more confined to the south but still warm for a good part of England and wales. Maybe the odd shower further north.

27th July (Opening Ceremony)
becoming trickier to forecast looking at todays models. Perhaps the opening ceremony may get away with out rain with the warmth hanging on to the south a teeny bit longer? heavy showers are possible, perhaps with thunderstorms. (nature adding an extra light show to the evenings entertainments?)

Sat 28th July
The models differ a little today between themselves but essentially bringing roughly the same result. Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. (In Scotland it looks pretty cold according to GFS, with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Unsettled with widespread showers.

Sun 29th July
Looking decidedly unsettled according to GFS with low pressure dominating and cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. However ECMWF looks more optimistic with high pressure forming in the wings - so lets hope that is the more accurate model

Mon 30th and Tues 31st July
Well the models are split utterly I'm afraid, with ECMWF looking rather more positive than GFS. no point in me trying to guess which one will be correct. So it will either be an improving picture, warming up and drying out again, or it will be wettish and cool.

Maryz Sun 22-Jul-12 10:07:56

OYBBK, I just love your last sentence - "it will either be an improving picture, warming up and drying out again, or it will be wettish and cool", that is a great forecast for an English summer grin.

It really does sum up how absolutely impossible it is to be 100% certain of anything when weather forecasting!

grin No point in me making it up -I've not got a clue what will happen!

Madsometimes Sun 22-Jul-12 10:24:42

Well, you right for today. It's lovely here smile. I don't know what to wear.

It is splendiferous isnt it! smile a perfect summers day where I am.

Met office website now extends to fri afternoon and has showers round London way.
Still, there's time for it to change yet!

25 th July - Rather a hot day really across the south and midlands with temps in the high 20s or even perhaps 30c. Far SW coasts perhaps rather cooler. Cooler in the north esp in coastal areas. Mostly dry, but perhaps the odd shower in the Midlands and northern England.

26 th July - Similar temp pattern to the 25th. still warm for a good part of England and wales. Maybe the odd shower further north.

27th July (Opening Ceremony)
Looking like a heavy showers day all day in Scotland. Showers in the south in the afternoonand evening, some thundery. This I'm afraid is looking quite likely to hit the opening ceremony.

Sat 28th July
Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. (In Scotland it looks pretty cold according to GFS, with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Unsettled with widespread showers.

Sun 29th July
Looking decidedly unsettled with low pressure dominating and cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. Looking wet for many places sad

Mon 30th
Looking cool and unsettled

Tues 31st July
sad

Weds 1 Aug
rather cool/cold and damp.

smile
A quick glance shows gfs to be much less gloomy about the prospects for the weekend and beyond this evening. Will give a proper updated look tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed!

Morning all!
seems very quiet on this thread. I hope that people are reading it as its taking me a fair amount of time to put it together! Weekend is looking very much better in the south than the models a day or two were indicating.

25th July - Rather a hot day really across the south and midlands with temps in the high 20s or even perhaps above 30c (esp in London area). Far SW coasts perhaps rather cooler. Cooler in the north esp in coastal areas. Mostly dry, but perhaps the odd shower in the Midlands and northern England.

26th July - Similar temp pattern to the 25th. still warm/hot for a good part of England and wales but temps a little down perhaps. Maybe the odd shower further north.

27th July (Opening Ceremony)
Looking like a heavy showers day for much of the day in Scotland. Some showers in northern England too (and into the Midlands?) By the afternoon in the London area some heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms. This I'm afraid is looking quite likely to hit the opening ceremony.

Sat 28th July
Much Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. In Scotland it looks pretty cold with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Rain is showing a north south divide with the south now probably escaping.

Sun 29th July
cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. Rain moves south through the day, whole of the uk to be affected by the end of the day??

Mon 30th
Looking cool and showery.

Tues 31st July

Perhaps a dry start for some but again cool and showery.

Weds 1 Aug, Thurs 2 Aug
rather cool/cold and damp.

Madsometimes Tue 24-Jul-12 09:50:52

Checking in smile. Looks like I'll need wet weather gear for the whole family.

morning Mad smile

perhaps I should have put this in a more high traffic area, but I didnt want it to get lost. It is a real pity that the weather is going to change so much. still on the positive side at least theres less chance of heat stroke!

Stokey Tue 24-Jul-12 11:05:54

Watching avidly. Moved into my first house with garden at the start of the month and just got to use garden for first time this week. Invested in sun loungers on sunday, house warming is on August 11 so fingers crossed. Will buy a bbq if weather holds out.
Good to know anyway OYBBK, sterling work.

smile how lovely that you can enjoy your garden this week! Fingers crossed for the 11th.

Cool new forecast types from the met office to help us with our planning. Off to see if they say what I say!

oh sad seems that they only look a couple of days ahead at most.

PoppyWearer Tue 24-Jul-12 12:30:20

Thank you OP! Am in the South-East and absolutely desperate for dry weather this weekend. Keeping everything crossed!

PoppyWearer Tue 24-Jul-12 12:35:38

OP, I have linked to this thread from my "We Love the Olympics" thread in Chat, so hopefully that will bring a bit of extra traffic for you.

CointreauVersial Tue 24-Jul-12 12:44:44

I'm here! Watching avidly, as I have a busy day on Friday, and need to decide whether to walk dragging three reluctant DCs to see the Olympic cycling. We are about a mile from the Box Hill circuit, but a lot of rain will turn a fun day out into a thoroughly miserable experience.

ajandjjmum Tue 24-Jul-12 12:47:27

Just found this thread Kitten - thank you. At least the sunshine this week is making everyone smile - apparently the atmosphere at Olympic Park is brilliant today. DD is distributing suncream to the volunteers - and the army have stolen her water!!! grin

The odd shower wouldn't be a problem - perhaps you could just cancel those thunder storms please?!!!

splendid - thank you Poppy smile

CV it looks like a splendid day for watching now on Saturday smile Hooray!

awww, I hope your dd has a lovely day aj - how exciting! smile is she there each day?

ajandjjmum Tue 24-Jul-12 18:28:54

Yes - she's been 'chillin' with some very hot (as opposed to warm and sweaty) soldiers today apparently! grin Lucky little madam!

TheDoctrineOfSnatch Tue 24-Jul-12 21:15:53

OYBBK. Don't worry I think more people will come to the topic once things formally start. I might suggest MNHQ does a sticky to tell people about the topic....

<reports self>

MegBusset Tue 24-Jul-12 23:01:07

I'm following with great interest. Don't care if it rains in London but would like sunshine in Cornwall for the whole fortnight please smile

Will see what I can do meg, but if I'm successful I'm camping at yours!
smile thank you Doctrine. Hopefully I won't get things too disastrously wrong < refers people to disclaimer at the top of the thread>

Morning all smile
Have introduced a Weymouth wind element. please, please note though that I'm reading that off a large scale map at coarse time intervals, so should be taken with a massive pinch of salt!

26th July - still hot for a good part of England and Wales Maybe the odd shower further north and cooler. Also perhaps the odd shower later in Wales.

27th July (Opening Ceremony)
Looking like a heavy showers day for much of the day in Scotland with the furthes north being most affected. Some showers in northern England too (and into the Midlands?) By the evening in the London area some heavy showers and possibly thunderstorms. This I'm afraid is looking quite likely to hit the opening ceremony. However, overall, for many, not a bad day in store smile Light winds

Sat 28th July
Much Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. In Scotland it looks pretty cold with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Rain is showing a north south divide with the south now probably escaping. Light winds.

Sun 29th July
cool temps - mid to high teens pretty much across the UK. Rain moves south through the day, Perhaps not reaching the south east until night time. (hooray) though the odd spot of rain about earlier in the day in that region. Light winds. Winds out to sea from Weymouth picking up to about 20KT (but light close to the coast)

MyMelody Wed 25-Jul-12 12:02:47

Thanks for thread oybbk, I am reading, I often read your weather threads but don't post much. I am in awe of your knowledge!

smile thank you mymelody - I still have an awful lot to learn though!

Morning all.
Have decided to remove any offshore forcasts for weymouth cos actually I think trying to pick wind speeds off a chart for a marine area is a bit of a nonsense. So can i refer you to magic seaweed which has a pretty good reputation.

26th July - still hot for a good part of England and Wales Maybe the odd shower further north and cooler. Also perhaps the odd shower later in Wales.

27th July (Opening Ceremony)
Two main areas of showers: The SE in the afternoon and evening. These could be thundery in nature and may extend into the London area. Scotland, with the northern half getting more persistent showers/rain but also extending to the south of Scotland at times. Still rather hot in the south East and central southern areas, but getting cooler as you go further north until positively rather cool in northern Scotland.

Sat 28th July
Much Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. In Scotland it looks pretty cold with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Rain is showing a north south divide with the south now probably escaping. Light winds.

Weds 1 Aug, Thurs 2 Aug, Fri 3rd Aug
low pressure remains a dominant feature sadly. rather cool/cold and damp.

MyMelody Thu 26-Jul-12 13:14:43

I must admit I'm pleased to see cooler temps coming as at nearly 9 months pregnant I've been pretty uncomfortable, esp at night! Dh and the dc are very excited about the forthcoming Olympics so maybe if I could time baby right paternity leave would allow extra viewing time haha!

That must be really uncomfy!

MyMelody Thu 26-Jul-12 13:29:07

Yes and the weather just seems to keep going from one extreme to the other this year, pouring down or crazily hot and muggy!!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Fri 27-Jul-12 08:27:48

Today (Opening Ceremony)
Got the timing of the showers in the SE a bit wrong it looks like they have arrived early. I know the bbc are saying it should be dry this evening, but actually there could be thunderstorms in the east and south east including the London area. Quite wet in parts of Scotland

Sat 28th July
Much Cooler, with temps in the south in the low 20's. In Scotland it looks pretty cold with temps struggling to get much above the low teens. Rain is showing a north south divide with a few showers in the south of the UK, but the bulk being further north. Light winds.

ajandjjmum Fri 27-Jul-12 10:02:13

Love your new name - and for once I hope the BBC are right!!! grin

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Fri 27-Jul-12 10:10:31

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 28-Jul-12 07:46:45

Tues 31st July

A pretty revolting day tbh, lots of rain around. winds picking up a little, esp round the SW. Cool

Weds 1 Aug,
low pressure remains a dominant feature sadly. rather cool/cold and wet. quite strong winds for this time of year.

Thurs 2nd - Sun 5th (and beyond) continuing along the same theme.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 28-Jul-12 08:46:19

Just to let you know, there wont be an update tomorrow, as I'll be at the olympics myself.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 28-Jul-12 10:44:32

catch you all when I get back smile

TheDoctrineOfEnnis Sat 28-Jul-12 12:13:19

Seems pretty hot right now, hope it cools down this afternoon!

TeamGBsometimes Sun 29-Jul-12 18:44:40

I hope you had a lovely time today, despite the spectacular rainfall. I was watching on the tv and thinking of you.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 29-Jul-12 19:29:40

We had a couple of thunderstorms grin One cloud-ground strike was rather too close for comfort!!!!! We, despite having full waterproofs, managed to get rather damp in one of the complete downpours! They weren't designed for sitting in puddles.

Did seem rather appropriate that it was an event I went to that got the spectacularly bad weather. smile

ajandjjmum Mon 30-Jul-12 05:42:52

Hope you enjoyed it though Kitten!

Just watched dawn break over a beautiful clear sky - but like yesterday, can sadly see clouds building up.

Why do they leave the stadium lights on overnight? The electricity.......!!!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 30-Jul-12 07:44:46

morning all! do they really leave the stadium lights on? they could do some strategic spotlights if they want to make it look special at night without being so wasteful.
Going to try and pull a forecast together, brain is a bit mushy though!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 30-Jul-12 07:47:02

Today though looks a lot better for the london area, maybe the odd shower this afternoon but hopefully not as deluging. Temp pretty pleasant at 20c ish.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 30-Jul-12 08:03:21

ought to comment that yesterday, whilst we did get a couple of deluges, for the rest of the day it was actually rather pleasant. Not hot, but the sun combined with a light breeze dried things off pretty quickly.

Today:
Whilst theres a fair number of showers likely for much of England and Scotland, I think the south will fair ok today. Rain moving into the SW this afternoon.

Tues 31st July

scotland and northen England have a pretty nice day in store. For the rest of us A pretty revolting day tbh, lots of rain around with a couple of weather fronts going through. Some pretty strong gusts at times.

Weds 1 Aug,
low pressure remains a dominant feature sadly. not too bad in the SE and east anglia for much of the day, perhaps remaining dry for most of the day with temps in the low 20's. Elsewhere showers, sometimes heavy and perhaps thundery. quite strong winds for this time of year.

Thurs 2nd
Scotland wet, elsewhere after a pleasant start showers once again breaking out.

Fri 3rd, Sat 4th

after a pleasant start showers once again breaking out. temps quite decent in the south.

Sun 5th (and beyond) continuing along the same theme.

ajandjjmum Mon 30-Jul-12 19:24:24

Yes Kitten - they leave the lights on! I want to shout at Seb when I see it. I couldn't sleep last night, and everytime I opened my eyes, they were on!! grin

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Tue 31-Jul-12 08:28:33

Good morning!
On the face of it the forecast looks quite grim again, but actually, when you look more closely, although probably all of us will see showers, there will also be sunny periods with temps quite pleasant in the south.

Tues 31st July

scotland and northen England have a pretty nice day in store. For the rest of us either damp or wet, with the worst of the rain going through the central UK. For other parts there will be dry interludes. The south will finish with some quite nice weather this evening.

Thurs 2nd
Scotland a damp start. elsewhere after a pleasant start showers once again breaking out, but not too bad really.

Sat 4th
Widespread heavy and perhaps thundery showers. Looks pretty unpleasant.

Sun 5th
Another showery day.

mon 6th, Tues 7th
Perhaps a ridge of high pressure will help keep the south drier temporarily.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Wed 01-Aug-12 09:25:50

Weds 1 Aug,
low pressure remains a dominant feature sadly. Scrap the not too bad for the sE. showers or rain moving in, sometimes heavy and perhaps thundery everywhere. Improving later today.

Sun 5th

mon 6th, Tues 7th
showers.

Can you tell I'm losing heart?

MarygoeZforgold Wed 01-Aug-12 09:38:48

You know, you could save yourself a lot of time by just typing:

Shite weather, probably raining, the sun might come out for a bit but it won't last long, and it'll be cold and possibly windy.

And then "ditto" every other day.

It is really awful, isn't it? Though it seems a bit warmer in London, but that might be due to all the people sweating under their rain coats and raising the temperature a bit.

TeamGBsometimes Wed 01-Aug-12 10:30:59

I don't know if I'm being ridiculously cup half full, but I thought the weather yesterday was ok. OYBBK had managed my expectations very well, so I went to the equestrian wearing waterproof trousers and a jacket, with dc similarly kitted out. We only had 20 minutes of light drizzle, whereas I had been expecting a full deluge. I'm just feeling very happy still smile.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Wed 01-Aug-12 22:39:05

It wasn't so bad was it TEamGB smile even our utterly drowning deluges on Sunday actually didn't seem too terrible. ( Greenwich rocks!!!)

But yes maryz, I'm getting close to typing that. Note how my forecasts are getting shorter and shorter!

Windsock Wed 01-Aug-12 22:40:08

It was hot today. Layers key. Plus cool feet. Not hot trainers

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Wed 01-Aug-12 22:41:41

That's a bugger for the athletes windsock.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis Wed 01-Aug-12 23:06:27

<girdles loins for another look into the crystal ball that is the models>

Thurs 2nd
Scotland not too bad. Parts of Northern England may miss the showers today elsewhere after a pleasant start showers once again breaking out, moving over from the west some heavy and thundery.

Fri 3rd,

after a pleasant start showers once again breaking out. Central and parts of northern England hanging on to the sunshine for the longest. temps quite decent in the south.

Sat 4th
Today the north half of Scotlnd is the place to be with much less in the way of showers. Elsewhere heavy, thundery showers once again breaking out. Perhaps clearing up in the far SE later.

I'm interested in this thread not so much for the Olympics (as the events I am going to are indoors), but for the fact we are camping in Kent next weekend. Forecast seems to be warm and dry Thurs & Fri next week with warm and scattered showers on Sat 11th. However I bow down to OYBBK, sorry, now OYGGB and await her forecast smile

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Thu 02-Aug-12 22:38:41

At the moment it does look like things will temporarily improve towards the end of next week for the south. I hope it stays that way.

TeamGBsometimes Sat 04-Aug-12 14:59:12

It's not a bad day here on the SE coast. We had rain overnight and first thing, but it's lovely now - fluffy clouds and the washing drying a treat on the line. I hope everyone at the events are enjoying them as much as I did, I'm sure they are smile.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 04-Aug-12 17:51:08

Same here smile a deluge this morning, but quite warm and sunny since.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 05-Aug-12 09:46:06

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 05-Aug-12 09:49:29

Note weather warnings for todays heavy rain

SparklingGoldMedals Sun 05-Aug-12 09:55:59

Worcestershire here. No rain yet although it has been promised for a while. Looks like today may be the day.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 05-Aug-12 23:12:01

It cleared up here to leave a lovely afternoon.
Showers can often look awful on the weather map, but so often they aren't such a pain in reality.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 06-Aug-12 09:09:58

Somewhat harder for me to update for the next few days as I've had to pack my computer away ( we are finally replacing our 20+ year old carpet!) the house is a disaster area!

Today's weather warnings

Back in a mo with the rest hopefully!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 06-Aug-12 09:20:49

Mon, showery, particularly heavy in the east with perhaps the west clearing up this afternoon to leave a fine evening.

Tues. Rain for the south moving in( bloody typical, tomorrow's the day when the furniture needs to be out of the house. Aargh) Scattered showers elsewhere with some spots staying dry.

Wed. Some scattered showers in the south, but generally a rather nicer picture smile

Thurs. Hooray! I think low cloud could be a bit of a plague for some east and west coastal areas, with perhaps a few spots of rain, but in general a rather nice day.

Fri. Bloody gorgeous. Though maybe a bit of rain for n. Wales.

Sat. Remaining nice for the eastern side? Stupid low pressure for the western side bringing rain.

Sun. Bastard weather returns to form.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 06-Aug-12 10:14:41

TheDoctrineOfEnnis Mon 06-Aug-12 10:18:18

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 06-Aug-12 10:22:38

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 06-Aug-12 14:59:41

Thunder here.

TeamGBsometimes Mon 06-Aug-12 15:19:19

Sunshine and showers here. Nothing too spectacular.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Wed 08-Aug-12 08:18:55

Morning all, sorry for the hiccup in proceedings yesterday, I had to leave extra early cos we went to the triathlon smile currently lazing in bed so will catch up with the weather in a bit.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Thu 09-Aug-12 08:06:03

ok, clearly yesterday didnt happen, but I've got my pc back up and running smile

Today:
Well, it loked like the models early in the week were correct with a warm/hot dry day, with many places seeing lots of sunshine. temps in mid-high 20s in the south, cooler in the north.

Fri
Very similar picture, bit warmer in the south. Remaining cooler in Scotland and northern England

Sat
Still dry almost everywhere, just perhaps the very odd isolted shower in Scotland and the far SW smile Temps starting to come back down.

Sun (olympic closing ceremony)
Rain moves in across England, but perhaps not making it into the SE. Northern England may stay dry. The odd shower in eastern Scotland. Rather warm in the SE, cooler elsewhere.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Thu 09-Aug-12 08:39:53

bump smile

TheDoctrineOfEnnis Thu 09-Aug-12 08:47:12

Fingers crossed for Sunday!

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Thu 09-Aug-12 11:39:25

I hope its ok.
Closing ceremony <sobs a little>

amillionyears Thu 09-Aug-12 15:09:30

Thanks for your weather forecasts. They were pretty much spot on where we were.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Thu 09-Aug-12 15:42:10

You are very welcome smile

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Fri 10-Aug-12 09:09:44

Morning all smile

Today, not wall to wall sunshine for all (though perhaps for some in the south) but a jolly nice day - warm/hot and dry. Lack of wind could be a problem for sailing again.

Sat, a bit cooler and more cloud around, partic in the north but still dry and warm. Rain moving into SW on Sat evening.

Sun, patchy showers moving over central England. Perhaps some thunderstorms. Hopefully dry for the closing ceremony <sob> away from the north and western coasts, warm/hot.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 11-Aug-12 07:19:52

Today,
Sunny for many, though stubborn cloud perhaps in the NE. Cooler than yesterday with temps in low 20s. Rain starting to move into sw this evening. Overall, a beautiful day smile

Sunday
Some showers around Sunday am in the south and Nw Wales. Overall though another lovely day with rain not moving into the sw until nightfall. I think, that perhaps though, there is still the low chance of thunderstorms bubbling up.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis Sat 11-Aug-12 07:37:55

So should be dry for closing ceremony, yay!

Is this the end of the summer do you think? It's all unsettled for next week by the looks of it. sad

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sat 11-Aug-12 10:25:48

Sparkling, Next week looks really poor with high rainfall totals in places. Next weather that looks sort of ok is possibly in a fortnights time.
But at least tomorrow will hopefully be dry smile

Well OYGGB we have booked a short break in Chester from 27/8-I daren't dream it will be ok.

It's lovely here today (Worcestershire). So nice.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 12-Aug-12 09:03:03

Last update for the Olympics <sobs>

Will try to do something similar for the Paralympics, but it will be a bit of a late start, due to not having Internet access for a couple of days.

Today, Fraid those showers in northern Wales and also now extending round Manchester way look set to run into the afternoon and perhaps extend further east. Some thunderstorms about. Otherwise a nice day. Dry for the closing ceremony. Warm/hot in the south.

Thanks OYGGB. Closing ceremony thread

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 12-Aug-12 19:05:20

Oh lovely, thanks for the link sparkling smile Going to be a splendid evening tonight for the closing ceremony. Hooray!

It absolutely chucked it down here this morning, but it's a lovely evening now. Getting quite excited about the Closing Ceremony. grin

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 12-Aug-12 20:06:10

I really hope that the weather for the Paralympics is as benign as the weather for the Olympics ended up. I know we didn't have a heat wave, and there was plenty of heavy showers and rain about, but overall, I think it wasn't too bad all things been considered. Certainly better than the weather in the run up to the Olympics.

It was ok in the end wasn't it? if it was the week before it would have been a washout.

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Sun 12-Aug-12 20:15:03

The canoes would have sunk shock

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 13-Aug-12 00:12:09

Well, the Olympics may be over, but weather will always happen.

< looks bravely on things>

That's true OYGGB.smile

OhYouGreatGreatBritain Mon 13-Aug-12 09:14:41

seemed quite profound last night wink
