Hi - in the process of hopefully moving to Scotland and looking at Lanark. Friends and family nearby (ish) but wondered any insider views on Lanark? We have a 2 and a half year old, we were also looking at Biggar so any advice, info, first hand knowledge ref schools, nurseries and general info at all would be much appreciated...
Thks
Hi there, just seeing this now so I'm probably a bit late in the day with this but here goes. Lanark's ok but a bit dull as far as i can tell. Shops cover all the basics and a little bit more. Really nice Indian restaurant there and direct rail to Glasgow.
Biggar is nice. Good schools at primary and secondary level & always lots going on in the local community. I'm much busier now than I ever was in the city! Great for families and a good mix of people. A little bit stuffy if I'm being honest but plenty of interesting people around, especially if you have kids. A playgroup runs at the Gillespie centre which is a good way of meeting other parents. Good, independent shops - really everything you could need on a daily basis and a bit more. A couple of nice pubs and restaurants. The commute to Edinburgh is fine by car (50 mins?) and just over an hour by bus. Buses could be better but are adequate. For Glasgow you take the bus to Lanark for the train but it's an hour in the car.
Hi - Many Thanks for the advice/info. We have bought a house in Lanark so just need to start looking for nurseries. Moving from the city so Big Move..Thanks again
Hi I moved to Hamilton in November (from Notts originally but lived in Glasgow for 7 years) I have a 2 year old and 4 month old. It's a great place for families. I'm still new to the place but Hopscotch nursery is where my 2 year old goes and its been great. The schools are really great too. I know how difficult it can be moving so good luck.
