Hello all,
Seen a few threads for new mums /mums to be on here but all seem to have gone quiet for a while.
I'm a first time mum to be, due in April, and am keen to meet similar. I live in Oxford but work full time in London so generally collapse on the couch in the evenings but would love to meet for coffee over the weekend.
Want to exchange tips, laughs and maybe a few glasses of wine post birth!
Let me know if you would like to meet up and we could maybe start a group with regular meets. I live in St Clements but me and the bump are happy to go anywhere local.
Hopefully will get a few replies, don't leave me hanging!
Keira
Hi Susie, I would love to come to your next meet up and meet other local mums-to-be due around the same time. See you on 24th!
Fliss
Hi all! Have just joined the meet-up group thingy, as I would love to come to your next one if that's okay? I'm in summertown and expecting dc1 (a girl) at the end of may :-)
Hi Fliss,
It would be great if you were able to come and meet us on Sunday morning in Summertown. There are three of us who are due between mid-April and early May, so we will have lots in common!
Hope you can come...
Susie
Hi Fliss,
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
You've probably gathered that there are some first time mums with similar due dates in Headington so it may be worth joining their next meet up which will be in Summertown (details on meet ups section of this site).
If you're free on Mondays perhaps you could join our East Oxford meet up? We haven't confirmed a date yet so feel free to chip in with ideas here

See you all tomorrow ladies, looking forward to it!
Thanks KBG!
Easty2, more than welcome, you can give us a taster of life on the other side! Headingtonmumtobe, see you there!
10am sounds great - and it's fantastic a few people will be able to come along. See you then!
Thanks Keira! Definitely know what you mean... have been massively procrastinating about prams/furniture and all the important stuff - the choice is just mind-boggling! All I want to do is start buying tiny shoes (especially since we found out the bump is a girl!)
Looking forward to meeting everyone
I'm Oxford born and bred so might be able to offer some tips to those looking at various different areas too!
hello ladies,
I am a bit of an oldhand for this maybe but am moving to Headington this week and would love to join in. I have a toddler and a 6 month old. I might leave the big one at home so as not to scare you all with what is to come! But would love to hear about the area etc. and maybe Rachael you might have some tips on the best baby groups etc?!
I've just had a look at the meet-ups section of the site. We haven't used this yet. It appears that someone needs to name themselves as co-ordinator in order to list a group meet. (time for some virtual ducking)

KBG I'm not sure Jan detox will work as it's right at the end of the month, and you're so right about the antibiotics excuse! There are quite a few going so think I might bring a couple of people in on the news and we can do drinks rounds
just between us. No vodka in my vodka and lemonade please!
Yay! I shall be all sage and wise then, being as I am a comparatively old hand
Fab news, see you there Shirin. Looks like a few of us expecting around the same time. Would be great to swap stories and tips, we are procrastinating about so many baby thing to buy that we probably don't need at all! Hard not to get carried away, especially trying to fight urge to buy every little cute bear outfit I see - so many possibilities for serious 'ahhhhhhh factor', must resist!
Hi everyone, would v much like to join you all on Sunday 27 if that's ok!
I'm expecting my first baby in mid-April so would love to hear about how other local mums-to-be are getting on.
Shirin
Great, more than welcome Rachael. I went there for brunch today, seriously good food and amazing hot chocolate. If 10am is good then ill see you all there in a couple of weeks.
Carrie, you could go for the old jan detox story? Or failing that the 'antibiotics' line? Problem is, the minute that anyone says that, first thing that everyone thinks is 'she's sooooo pregnant!' Most people won't say it though, until you tell them then suddenly you realised that EVERYONE thought it!
Hi ladies, thanks for all the info, still looking although have a better idea where now! Would love to come and meet you, but sadly on a hen do in Bournemouth that weekend
. God knows how I am going to cover the no drinking up.... Any ideas?!
Would love to meet up next time though!
Carrie
Hi there,
another Headingtonian here! I've got an 8 month old daughter and we'd love to come along to J&F on the 27th.
Rachael
Sorry, could we possibly change the time to 10ish on the 27th, total baby brain, got a birthday lunch at 12.30.
27th sounds good, it's in the diary. Does 11am suit?
Hyperpiper, I hope you can make it.
Anyone else who reads this post is more than welcome to join, keen to meet lots of people.
Keira - meeting at J&F for coffee would be great. I'm actually on a hen do this weekend and in London next weekend - but how about meeting on Sunday 27th? Sorry it's a few weeks away...
Hyperpiper - could you maybe come and join us and we can talk about different areas to live in? I have lived in Oxford for many years, although am relatively new to Headington. The area I live in isn't as community focused as I would like - but I have friends who live around New High Street and that seems to be lots of young families and a nice atmosphere. If you're not able to join us for coffee, feel free to post about specific areas and we can tell you what we know!
Rachel - we'll let you know once we finalise a time so that we can spread the word!
Hello all,
Congratulations on your bumps!
The meet up sounds like a great idea. I won't join you as I'll be doing the round of birthday parties and music/dance clubs with my children - I'm at quite a different stage to you! But I'll think of you in Jacobs and Fields enjoying yummy cakes and coffee (sigh).
Would it be OK for me to pm a couple of other mums-to-be who posted a few weeks ago about meeting up? And would it be OK to post on the meet up page in case anyone else wants to join you? Totally understand if you want to keep it small so let me know (or go ahead and put a post up).
Hyperpiper, good luck with your house search. I'm in East Oxford and the community here is buzzing. There are loads of families, it's very friendly, and I'd recommend it if you want an area with lots going on.
I agree with your friend who said that it varies street by street. I think this is partly because there's such a big student community in Oxford and there are some streets where there are more students than families/owner occupiers. I'd say you can tell quite easily by looking at the houses. Student rental houses usually look a bit less loved.
I'm on Howard street which is mostly families or owner/occupiers, with a few student houses. Most of the streets between Howard St and Magdalen Road are similar. Our street is really friendly and we have lovely neighbours.
The Florence Park area is also worth looking at (you get a bit more space for your money).
All the best,
Rachel (Local Ed MN Oxford)
Hi Ladies,
So great to hear from you both.
I have a plan...fancy meeting this weekend or next for a coffee? We could meet in Headington - Jacob and Fields? Headingtonmumtobe you may have some ideas about where is good to live around there or my fiancée used to live there (he's lived in Oxford for 15 years so knows the area pretty well) so I can pick his brains beforehand.
Lets make a plan, there is only so long I can bore my friends about travel systems before they totally hate me!
