Hello All!
On the advice of FluffyBunnyGoneBad, I'm copying this post into the local site.
Not sure if I'm allowed to ask about specific places or not, but I'll do it anyway and see what happens!
Does anyone have anything to say, good or bad, about any of the following Derby nurseries?
Kingfishers - Duffield Road
Woodlands - Duffield Road
Mickleover Montessori
I've visited all of them (and more besides!) but I'm still unsure. I like the staff at Kingfishers, and they seem to cater well for the individual needs of the children but not sure about the cleanliness (does a bit of grub around the edges matter - I am a fuss pot!) or the front door security and it had a dire ofsted report. Woodlands seemed cleaner and had a great lively atmosphere for the older children downstairs, but theres something I'm not sure about in the baby/toddler rooms. Something about the staff I think, but don't ask me what - I couldn't put my finger on it! The Montessori has a lovely countryside location and is a lot smaller then the other two. It was clean and the staff were nice, but it was very quiet and maybe a bit boring? The 0-2's were all in the same room together aswell which is something I'm not sure about. Theres a big difference surely between the needs of a 6 month old and a 2 year old?
My DS is nearly 1 and due to start at one of them soon (probably!) so if anyone can give me any info that'd be fantastic. Any other nursery recommendations for the Derby West or South area would be good too. Why does the perfect nursery not exist?
many thanks
Congratulations for finding it
I wouldn't worry about a little dirt, they get filthy outside anyway. I've heard good reports about Woodlands. Ds used to go to Silvertrees, he had a really bad time here, there's one in the city centre called Orchard Garden, he moved there afterwards and the staff were lovely. The garden outside is very small though but they did alot with the children, I wish I'd have moved him there earlier. It's on Green Lane or is this too far?
The Universtit of Derby have their own nursery on Uttoxeter New road, anyone can use it, it's also very good.
Its funny - I've heard a lot of people say negative things about SilverTrees so its one I didn't even bother looking at, although I suppose some people using it must be happy or it wouldn't still be open!
Green Lane would be a bit of a pain to get to unfortunately as I'd have to come in to Derby to take the boy then back out again to go to work.
Thanks anyway Fluffy! And thanks for pointing me in the direction of the local site
You're welcome. Where abouts do you live and I'll get my thinking cap on.
By the way, I reported Silver Trees to social services for the treatment my son recieved there! It was several years ago now though.
Message withdrawn at poster's request.
Avoid Orchard Garden on Green Lane, offers report is awful and children are regularly left unsupervised
I pulled my DD1 out of here for this reason and put her into Kingfishers on Duffield Road which is a FABULOUS nursery!
She's since left and goes to school and we've moved right out to south Derbyshire, but if I needed a nursery again, kingfisher would be my only choice xx
Should say OFSTED report!
