I am a single parent of a 4 month and 13 year old on maternity leave until next May and would like to meet other single mums in local area (BS6 and environs) particularly those happy to talk of things other than sleep/feeding . . .

Anyone out there?!

starwhores Tue 29-Sep-09 18:54:34

I am practically single, well okay I'm not but I do really need friends!!

Ninjacat Wed 30-Sep-09 11:03:02

I'm not single either (although have been a single mum). I have a 12year old and a Baby due end Nov. Thought I'd say hello.

queenofdenial2009 Wed 30-Sep-09 12:12:45

Hello

I'm a single parent to my 4 year old DD and live in Horfield. I work Monday to Thursday, but am around at other times.

I'm rubbish at talking aout sleep/feeding and childcare in general. I'm more interested in the economy TBH.

Emmmm Thu 01-Oct-09 18:10:58

Thanks for your replies - would be happy to talk the economy or GB's speech - anything topical or anything but sleep/feeding!! hello to expectant mum - not so worried about the single thing but good to have poeple with things in common, also people with partners tend to be busy eith them at weekends! I'm free this Sat btw 11 and 4 - could do park e.g. St Andrews or some Friday at a Gloucester Rd cafe some week if anyone fancies it. Am off to N. Hampshire hosp in Basingstoke tomorrow to visit my poor sister who was ina road accident but is going to be okay thankfully.

Hey there,
On another thread Ninjacat, My Angels and I have been planning to meet up for ages and not quite got round to it. Maybe we can all meet up together? I've just finished work now (due on 26th Oct) and free on Fridays and live just near Glos rd. How about friday 9th or Fri 16th? What times good for people? I do like coffee number one for nice lattes, smoothies and massive tea cakes and stuff but up for where ever people want to go.
I'm particularly happy to talk about mountainbiking, snowboarding, yoga, films and travelling and as a youth worker chatting about young people's issues is also an interest of mine. Gordon Brown makes me feel slightly ill when he does that little breathy gasp at the end of every sentence but I try to keep up with current affairs and just try not to look at his face. I don't know nuffink about fashion, makeup and that sort of stuff and I've got no interest in it but I do like to read a nice trashy mag now and again (read a story about a woman with a 20 stone bottom today!)
hope to meet up soon,
hope your sister is on the mend Emmmm,
Mahalo

Ninjacat Fri 02-Oct-09 21:00:15

16th is good for me.
Have an opinion on most things. grin

Emmmm Sun 04-Oct-09 15:01:55

The venue and Fridays good for me, but have just arranged to visit my sister (now out of hospital, but it will be months before she can walk unaided) on the 16th - can do 9th or 23rd? I think I might be the only person in the country who likes GB - I saw him speak once and was v impressed (he had no cue card or bit of paper) and was strikingly warm and witty also it was shortly after they lost their baby so I felt v sorry for him.

As for mountainbiking I did it for a weekend once and absolutely loved it - sadly it's not an easy sport to pursue with children in tow - happy to talk about it and can do yoga, films (thatnks to W'shed cinebabies), youth work (was a youth worker many moons ago) - snowboarding I'm yet to try, but skiing I love - again think it might be a while before I do that. I must also confess a penchant for watching X factor, so already counting down the hours to the next episode this evening

queenofdenial2009 Sun 04-Oct-09 15:52:25

Hey Emmm, do you know there is a hugely entertaining X-factor thread here under Telly Addicts every Saturday and Sunday evening? Hope to see you there, alcohol recommmended...

Ninjacat Mon 05-Oct-09 09:28:10

I can do the 9th if it's in the morning.
Hope your sister is on the mend.

Ninjacat Mon 05-Oct-09 09:37:50

Sorry just re-read your post. Sounds like a very serious accident, didn't mean to sound flippant. I do hope she's getting lots of support and care though.

mahalo Mon 05-Oct-09 15:21:39

9th is good for me. Reason to get out of bed! Just flopping around like a beached whale at the moment! Only 3 weeks to go though - just have to be patient.
What time? 10.30?
Got a preg massage for my birthday on Wednesday at the Healing Rooms on Glos rd. Ohhhh can't wait!
Devastated that those annoying twins got through on x-factor - they need a good smacked bottom.
You going to yoga Ninjacat?
Got an interview next week for a part time voluntary position at Barnardos - supporting young people who have run away and those who are at risk of sexual exploitation. Starts in January. Sounds a fantastic project.

Bye for now. Wobbling off to the Watershed in a bit to see Creation with some slim tummied friends.

Ninjacat Tue 06-Oct-09 08:09:36

Could we do 10am?

queenofdenial2009 Tue 06-Oct-09 11:46:52

I'd like to come if possible. 10 o'clock this Friday? Have we agreed a place to meet, also how do we recognise each other or do we just talk to random women asking them what their names are? Let's hope anyfucker isn't coming, I can just imagine it 'excuse me, are you anyfucker?'

mahalo Tue 06-Oct-09 22:19:11

Hi QueenofDenial. Yep 10am this Friday (9th) at coffee number one on Glos rd (near Cafe Delight). I've got short brown hair with fringe clipped up coz it's all a bit overgrown and I'll have on grey and black stripy jumper filled up with fat tummy.
Ninjacat has got shortish pinky hair and a big tummy too.
If we don't hate each other too much we are planning to meet again on 16th Oct so MyAngels can join us.
Hopefully Emmmm is coming too this Fri? and anyone else?
Mahalo

Ninjacat Wed 07-Oct-09 14:17:58

bratnav Wed 07-Oct-09 14:59:17

Could I gatecrash too please? I'm not single but do have a 5 week old and desperately need to restart my brain with conversation which is non baby related or with an adult I am related/married to

Cowwomanmoo Wed 07-Oct-09 15:16:09

I was wondering if me and my 3 month old could pop over.I am unlikely to make it as I am totaly crap.

Ninjacat Wed 07-Oct-09 17:12:17

The more the merrier I say grin (as long as we can stick to the rules wink)
Cowwoman don't be so hard on yourself. You're not crap, it's hard to get anywhere with a tree mnth old in tow.
Bratnav would be nice to meet the baby, he was a bump when I last saw him.

bratnav Wed 07-Oct-09 23:33:30

Well he is a big lump now grin

Looking forward to meeting you all, and seeing you again Ninjacat.

Emmmm Thu 08-Oct-09 21:01:16

I'll be there too - I'll prob have a red cardigan with a bit of sick on it and a baby in a sling/buggy. 10 am at coffee no 1

bratnav Fri 09-Oct-09 21:51:57

Great to meet you all today, we must do it again soon.

Cowwomanmoo Sat 10-Oct-09 01:59:17
