We live very close to Bristol at the moment and I'd love to be in 'The Country' proper, as I feel where we are is neither country nor city. But where? Can anyone give me ideas for nice villages within say 10 miles of Bristol. I like the feel of Chew Magna - little markety town with coffee shops - but can't afford the size of house we need there which is a shame. Anything else with a similar feel, probably prefer south or east of Bristol as opposed to North Bristol for work.
Thanks for any ideas
I lived in Blagdon for seven years. Like all places, there are pros and cons. My ex and I, sad as it sounds, made a spreadsheet of what we wanted e.g. decent village shop, school you can walk to and took it from there.
Although there was lots I liked about it, I wouldn't live somewhere like that again. I'd be really clear about what you want out of living in The Country. A big downside for me was being completely car dependent and it's pretty Daily Mail.

Well i've lived in one of those sought after villages for my whole life, you can't beat it. Why npt look at something like clutton or somewhere like that on the A39 then its just a straight road into bristol

I have a friend in Wotten-under-Edge which is about 13 miles from Bristol. It's considered a town but it feels more like a large village. Wickwar is nice too.
