I'm looking for somewhere for my 2 and a half year old son who has slight speech delay that will give him lots of attention in a small group setting - and am not really sure where to start looking.

Just wondered if anyone had any tips for me...

Thank you

My daughter had speech and language problems....just couldnt say hard sounds like 'k' and 'g' really - maybe a couple of other things but they were the ones that caused her the most frustration. I took her to speech and language therapist at Roundabout childrens centre in whitehawk...self referred, didnt need to get doc involved or anything. Anyway they did one to one play therapy with her for weekly sessions which she LOVED and thrived at and solved the problem really quickly!

Which isnt what you were after but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Actually thinking back my son had group speech therapy sessions for his stutter at Morley Street but he hated it (he has special needs) and most of the time was spent trying to prise him out of the hall while the rest of the kids cracked on.

Would this be any help?

I was actually looking for I CAN because I know there used to be a nursery at Carden Hill school when ds was little, a regular in our pub used to work there helping children with communication difficulties. I don't know if it's still there, it is listed on the link if you click on early years and there is a phone number that might be worth a try to see if they are still there. HTH.

There is also PRESENS at the Jeanne Saunders centre in Hove or Easthill Park in Portslade, they would be able to give you good advice about playgroups etc. Or AMAZE Brighton are brilliant at giving advice to parents, actually thinking about it they may be the best place to start! smile
