Hello
We live in Hove at the moment and love it but are yearning for more space.
We might be able to move next year.
We were wondering what Woodingdean/Rottingdean would be like.

I like the bigger gardens and the views, but know none who lives there at all.

I do love city life, but with a toddler I spend most of my time at home anyway.

Does anyone know what its like? Would you move there?

We have a one year old and would use the state schools.

We wouldn't have a big budget - around £300-£350k at the most.

Meant to say, if there are any other areas which are nice, close to/in Brighton where I can get a 3-4 bedroom with big garden then let me know please!

Hi. Just found your question about Woodingdean/Rottingdean. We used to live centrally but moved to Woodingdean in 2010 and have had our first little one since we moved. We love it up here - as you mentioned, the space, views, garden, parking, plus much more house for your money was the big factor with us. I was worried about feeling isolated when we moved especially once little one arrived, but there is so much going on. We loved the more period style properties in Rottingdean, plus the lovely feel to the village, but felt that for our budget we would get more space in Woodingdean. Plus the primary school nearby is great.

Friends who visit from central Brighton always comment on the space up here - we know two couples who moved here recently for the same reason.

Hope this helps a bit? We also looked at Patcham and Shoreham but loved the views up here too much to ignore!

I previously lived in Ovingdean and Saltdean. I have to say its a lovely area to bring up children, my son is now 2 but I moved to Shoreham as me and my sons father had a bit of a rocky patch.

I like the walks around there but also the fact its still so close to Brighton town, esp if you drive. I work in the middle of Brighton and it takes 10 minutes if there is no traffic.

There are also lots of activitie groups and events in the summer like little fairs etc.

Agree with KimberleyAnn that it still feels like I'm very close to Brighton. I don'r drive but the buses are regular and I can be in the town centre where I work in 20 mins.

The views are amazing and I love getting out and about, not just here but in Rottingdean and Ovingdean too.

Thanks so much! It is great to hear the positive views. We went to see some houses on Saturday in North Rottingdean and South Woodingdean and yes you get a lot for your money. Glad to hear there is stuff going on. I was tempted to accost anyone I saw with a pushchair and fire questions at them!

One serious consideration though - it's a bit of a nightmare here when it snows. I've been pretty much cut off for a couple of days before and buses and taxi's won't come here. It doesn't really bother me though as long as we're stocked up as it just means a few sneaky days off work for me and DS to play in the snow

Thanks Doreen. The buses and taxis stop around Hove too in the snow, but I guess maybe the shops are nearer. What about shops, like local shops/newsagents etc. Are there some in amongst the houses or do you have to go down to Rottindean village or up to the parade of shops at the top of Woodingdean (Warren Road??).
Also are there many childminders and toddler groups?
