two of the children from dds swimming class go and neither appreciate it, dd would also love to go, sorry had to change my name as problems with ex.
I know!! lol - Annoying thing is, my sons friend goes there because his parents are wealthy but he's not very academic and absolutely hates school - always moaning on facebook, it's gutting as I know DS would love the opportunity if we could afford it
I looked at Arnold when we moved lol £895 a month I think it was
I think she left to take on a bigger challenge, St Johns is really small. She came back for the opening of the new school, it was a real shame that she missed being there when they finally moved in!
Palatine seems pretty good, DS has fitted in really well. We looked at a few but liked the new yr7 block at palatine, they keep them a bit more separate for the first year instead of throwing them straight in with the big ones! We didn't go and look at St Georges but the league tables didn't look as good as I thought they would be.
I think the best way to choose is to just look around them and see what feels right, they all seem to be performing roughly the same (unless you can go to Arnold!
)
Do you know why she left Bubblerock, I am suprised because they were building that brand new building werent they for st Johns.
We had been told by LEA that there was no space anywhere for dd to go and to home educate till somewhere came available. The schools advisor at the council found out two schools had a place and told me to go to Baines purely on Mrs Snape being there!
He said applications had doubled for the reception class since she went there.
I agree shes very firm but fair and thats what you need, she was dressed as the ghost of Christmas present with a wig and face painted at the juniors nativity lol.
Whats Palatine school like, its our nearest high school although I think kids at Baines can chose St georges.
Yep, DS1 moved on to palatine high in september but ds2 is in yr1 at st johns, we loved Miss Snape when she was there, very firm with the children but they loved her and very approachable (Liverpool supporter too!!). Gutted that she left
Bubblerock we have! She seems to be doing an amazing job, she cleared a few staff out in the summer holidays and I was a bit worried but its worked for the best. She showed us round school when we had just moved, She was so enthusiastic and jolly about the school it made me feel much happier and dd adores her.
On the only occassion I needed to see her she was brilliant at sorting it out!
Is your dc at St Johns then, I think thats where she came from?
Sunburnt I have been on since 2007 but not posted properly until the last 6 months or so, have you always lived in Blackpool.
have you got our old head now at baines? Miss Snape? She's lovely, was really sad to see her go
It sounds great! Good for socialising for both of you.
have you been on Mn for long?
I find it a life saver, and have been on here for years.
DD also tried Beavers and Rainbows and found both boring, tbh she would rather be let lose on the park lol
Im settling okay, Im friends with a couple from dds school and I have met a couple of people locally but not many tbh.
I thought st Johns would be all first aid and dd would find it boring to be honest but they do things in 12 week blocks, the last block was for a creative badge and they did model making and clay and painting and things like, the next few weeks is first aid but they do loads of different 12 week subjects with things like circus skills and sleepovers and trips and stuff like that.
They do physical games each time with them as well (wears dd out for bedtime)
When it was Christmas and Halloween they had a big party with pass the parcel (dd won a remote control car) and they each got an individual chosen xmas present. They do a huge buffet as well and parents can stay on the parties.
They also can chose if they want to march on the parades with the soldiers and things which dd loves!
Not bad for a pound a week, the first three weeks were free and although the uniform is £20 they swap it for free when its too small.
Ahh sounds like it has all turned out well for you. Thats great.
What do they do with them in St Johns? ds hasnt shown an interest in any thing like that, he gets bored very quickly.
Its good to have parent nearby for a million reasons.
What about you, have you settled into your new life ok? Made many friends?
Stanley Park was a godsend in the summer, we moved from Yorkshire, we had been here to visit lots of times so when me and dd left exh dd asked if we could move here, we are a lot nearer my parents now as well.
Yes she ended up at Baines because all the local schools, Revoe and Waterloo were full, I am glad really because its a much better school and she has settled really well there.
DD has just started at St Johns Ambulance near town, I was a bit dubious at first but they do loads with them, its much better than I thought.
ds not 7 till July. He is a handful!
I am about 15 minutes away from marton.....i know because i treck to Tesco regularly
Where did you move from in April?
marton is ace, its great for shops, schools, town, and we live in Stanley park all year round really.
Does your dd like school? has she settled in well?
Hi, we are renting in Revoe while we look for somewhere in Marton, my friend is up that way and she loves it too.
We moved up here in April and know no one apart from people from school.
Ohhh thats weird that they are both called Baines because Thornton isnt far of is it?
DD is 7 in March, when is your ds's?
Hi, im here!
My ds goes to Baines endowed in Thornton! he is 6 nearly 7!
We live in Thornton.
My first house was in Marton, i loved it there
Hi
Not sure if anyone is still reading, dd is nearly 7 and we are near revoe school, dd goes to Baines Endowed at Marton.
Hi Lynsey!! Gosh, they were nicely spaced out lol - I bet it's hard work but lovely to have them all similar ages, mine have a 5 year gap and it's quite tricky sometimes! Welcome to MN
