Hi..I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this. We own a car in Switzerland. Nearly two years old bought from new. I know we need to do something with regard to a test...little dial on back window. It will be due this July. Is this the equivalent of the UK MOT and/or some sort of emission test.

Can we get this done at any garage and do most newish cars pass this? And how much does the test cost? Any information gratefully received. My French is OK but I seem to lose the plot with French speaking Swiss mechanics.

In the german speaking side it's called the abgas. We had ours done a couple of months ago at the mechanic we use. The one before we did at the Ford main dealer. It's just to ensure that you aren't polluting the country. IIRC it cost us about 120 chf the first time and 55 the second, it takes about 10 minutes and you get your new sticker there and then. The moral of this story is choose a small independant over a main dealer. You should be fine with a two year old, our car is 10.
