Are there enough of us to merit a Mumsnet Local page?

I'd be happy to do Tsarina duties if there are, but no point if there are only about 5 of us!

Any lurkers?

oh, i'd given up on this thread!

There aren't exactly 100s of us are there?!

Well I'll perhaps offer to do Tsarina duties, and it's up to MNHQ if they think it's worth having a MN Local page.

There are others, I think there is at least 10, so not millions but it might be nice to have our own little thing going on. I did try last year to organise a meet up at the madinat but too many people were away and I suspect that will happen now as summer approaches. Seriously though if you want any help I am happy to assist.

I'm still working, seems to get more like fulltime and then some everyday ;-)

Are you off this summer or shall we meet for a drink? And get a few others to come with us?

Back to HR, we should have a DXB page, loads of people come for a look see or holidays.

Def a good idea to get something on school salthough maybe not from the KHDA. tee hee.

Places to play, visit etc. We could do a good page I think. Maybe we should all get together over a drink? You are all welcome to mine, in the Meadows. Just let me know.

Grrr..... cant believe you will get away for 3 weeks in July and maybe August as well. That is so not fair. Stomps off to the corner muttering under her breathe. and of course if you go away for august no point in coming back in Sept till after Ramadan! In fact are you sure its not you leaving the car at the airport??

Huff would you like to come on over to my place for a glass or more? I could do Carmenere's cheddar and rosemary biscuits (just spied the recipe on the right).

I'm here too but I try to get away as much as possible. Would have loved to join you guys for drinks but leaving for Europe next weekend for nearly 3 months. Can't wait. This place drives me crazy.

Barbie, maybe you google the nearest post office and go there? I only know the one at Village Mall.

Barbie 1

Go behind Geant at Ibn Battuta and there is a printing place they weigh parcels, sell stamps and general give a post office service.

Great location IMHO, get my booze from MMI, get my books from house of prose and a pizza from Little Ceasars that is the most effective half an hour I ever spend ;-)

Also I am here all summer, have just sent DS (13 yo) away for 9 weeks ( 10 days to scout camp in Norway and then visitng family in UK) How the heck did he get to be that old?, Currently am drinking and sogging, sorry sobbing as back from airport and loitering to check flight leaves on time. Sob. My baby.....

Ok now I really need to get a grip, if he went to boarding school he would be away this long, but yes then he would be in contact and not travelling 7 hours by bus to somewhere i cant spell never mind find on a map.

Sorry, it too late and I am too upset, but the post office is still in the same place. Likewise Hallmark at Little spinneys sell stamps and there is a post box at big spinneys in the midddle of the car park and one outside choithrams in the Lakes.

Hope that helps, apologies for the spelling and blubbing. Any more questions just ask.

Sorry but can I crash your thread?

We're moving to Perth at the end of next month. Still got to book flights but as emirates have a fantastic baggage allowance we're seriously considering a stopover in Dubai - especially as we've done all of the asian stops on previous trips.

Anyhoo, are we mad to even consider this late July? I know it will be hot. DS is 1 year old and managed mid to late 30's in Australia but I know Dubai is hotter.

We'd be in the pool but not for any length of time and no sitting out unless it was in the shade.

Basically, we want to do a bit of shopping and I'd like some well deserved time in the Spa.

Thinking about the mina a salam.

I'd appreciate honest answers as if you think we're stupid to do it I'd rather know!

Welcome to our thread, no probs for hijacking.

It will be hotter than Hades and humid to boot. Yesterday it was 43 and the humidity was horrid. We went to a pool party last night fortunately they had a chiller. We dont and yesterday we were in our pool and it was hotter than some baths I've had!! But still ok to loiter with a drink ;-)

Having said that Dubai is still a great place to be. The Mina a Salam is fab, one of my fav places. And honestly I know I said its hot but if you go to the water parks its brilliant. And totally agree about emirates baggage allowance.

If you need anymore help just ask.

Great.

Went to Mina yesterday. I do like it there. Its not quite so hot at the moment but extremely hazy. There was a sandstorm over Iraq which has contributed to the near fog levels as the sand gets stuck in the air by the hig levels of humidity.

Still in the pol and bar, no problem ;-)

Umm Just read you said end of next month August? It will be Ramadan, no eating or drinking in public. Not to worry if you did mean august, hotels still serve just very discretly.

If you meant July and I am confused then no worries at all July will be fine. I wouldnt recomend shopping to be honest, its all super expensive, stuff from the Uk including VAT and then some! Still the malls are aircon. YOu must go to Dubai Maill, its at the foot of the Burj Dubai (worlds tallest building), it has an aquarium with discovery centre where you cant touch the fish, a gold souk, ice rink, and outside the worlds tallest fountains, on the every half hour from 7pm, but not if its windy as everyone gets covered in water , different music and lights each time.

If you need more info let me know.

Thanks Star. We fly 2 weeks today on 27th and are there for 3 nights. I am having some time in the spa but other than that we're just going to go with the flow although hubby does want to to the Mall for a look!

You must go to Dubai Mall and the fountains it really is a sight to behold. And the Madinat, loads of twee shops and restaurants and little boats right next to your hotel. No worries about the boat, the river if you can call it that is artifical and about 3 feet deep, no tide or waves, lots of twinkling lights very pretty but dont both with hair straighteners if your that kinda girl. Its a bit humid think 70% plus day and night ;-)

Hope all is going well with the packing and you are going to have a leaving party? We had the best party ever. Enjoy it, get someone else to take photos and treasure the memory.

travel safe.

Huff/Star/any other Dubai mums - hi .

I am 'lurking' if you do decide to set up a local MN page!!! Well, I only just found you actually, after trying the postnatal group for April 09 mums, but all they're worried about is swine flu poor things, whereas my main concern is not going AC-stircrazy on a budget. Am off to France for a month from Sunday, but count me in for any chats from Ramadan onwards .

btw, now embarrassed at my nickname, as I am anything but...
